Colin I don’t think you have ever met a person that hasn’t become your friend. It just goes to show what an incredible human being you are. Thank you for taking us back to the beginning, and introducing us to all the people that helped you, and taught you. Obviously you are a great student and you taught us to never give up on our dreams.
Huge Respect Colin. I love your tenacity in repairing Parlay to her former glory. Truly inspiring, thank you for all the great videos and information that you share. Keep that positive spirit going and fair winds. When you are next in Cape Town, I would love to buy you a beer ! Regards, Mike
3 yrs ago I was sitting on my couch watching your videos. I was a successful international airline Captain flying a 767 around the world...and I was miserable. Motivated by story, I walked away from a quarter million $/yr job and retired early in Thailand. I got my Bareboat Captain's license and sailed in Thailand. 2 yrs later, I missed TX and moved back, paid cash for a house, car & boat and now I'm going back to flying for a yr or 2 to get savings back up. But, you were right! Even though it was a financial loser moving me & my dogs back & forth, I don't regret it a bit. I met a nice girl and for the rest of my years, I can say I did that! We only get so many trips around the sun, LIVE LARGE!
A gem of an episode. The back story was fascinating. And the golden souls who lent a hand: priceless. Never would have happened without Colin's personality though.
I am old now but until I was 36 years old I was heading for a similar goal of a life at sea. Then I met and married my wife of 35 years and instead went to the mountains ! Never a regret , but I enjoy watching your videos and your relentless spirit and dream of that path not taken . What privilege we humans have (some of us) to have so many choices!
As noted by the guys that helped you, rebuilding a hurricane damaged boat is huge work, and very very few people can execute, you compound that with the design flaws of the Lagoon bulkheads, close to impossible. Not because the work is so difficult, but its so demanding, there is no room for patchwork, the boats will fall apart if you don’t do proper repair work. Ask the Leopard 46 guy that repaired a grounding and significant hull/ keel damage, it fell off on this first passage in the middle of the night and sank in minutes. My 2 cents worth, just does not pay to repair these boats, tons on money for the fix and the boat is never easy to sell. Why buy a damaged boat when there are good boats on offer.
When someone ask me 20 years ago "so what do you know" I simply said I can fix anything but a broken heart & AC." Today ~ The more I know the less I know. Parlay revived a heartbeat in so many non believers. That's why we follow work hard, play hard Life is short. Thx guys.
This guy has inspired a million people I’m sure. Maybe it’s not sailing you want or a massive project to do in your life, but Colin has shown that you can do massive things against the odds and make the unlikely possible. He has energy and spirit and no matter whatever you do in your life you can’t be anything but impressed by him. Colin I wish I could sail with you some day. Well done man.
And AGAIN you guys produce a gem!! Your candor, empathy and ability to inspire are qualities of a wonderful human and kind of scarce in the world we live in currently. So grateful and proud to be a part of the Parlay family
Who knew the salvage operation of Parlay was to some degree the "easy" part of the voyage for Colin. Who could have envisioned the bulkhead failures and being struck by lightening not once BUT twice! Parlay is truly the ultimate story of dedication and love for a boat. 310,000 subscribers later and going strong. 😊
You should be proud that you built the strongest Lagoon 450 in the world through perseverance and hard work , congrads on everything you accompllished .
Hi from Portland Oregon Colon! I just wanted to say how amazing it is to see in 1 video how far you guys have come since you bought Parkay. Thinking about all the people you've met on your journey is amazing. I'm just very appreciative that you're documenting the journey for all of the aspiring cruisers. Hope to see you in the Carribbean in a couple years! Cheers! Thank You!!!
Every episode is now past perfection. Video, audio and content all presented in a package worthy of a full length movie. Geez, I love each weeks adventure with Parlay Revival!
I think you give some sound advice to anyone thinking of trying to take on the monumental task that you did. Not just anyone can pull off such an incredible project. You also had some amazing friends and support to help you through the hard times Jamie definitely being at the top of that list!! He is just as much of a legend as you are. KEEP INSPIRING!❤
this is such a great video. colin, what a major accomplishment. several times in your video i thought, "nobody would've blamed him had he thrown in the towel." yet look at you now.
You were the first sailing channel that caught my attention because of Parlay being in a hurricane! I have a love of sailing and the goal is to be out there someday. Thank you Colin and what an amazing episode! Cheers!
We suffered loss in hurricane Irene in upstate ny in 2011. We lost our business and the building we owned. After the bvi and usvi was hit with Irma Maria we went down to st john. We just felt if we spent some money in the shops and restaurants it would help these owners. It brought tears to mY eyes seeing the destruction again .But ill say those island people are some resilient mfers. God bless them Great episode today
Great video. I'vewatched mostof the early videos. Amazing how the sailing community works together as friends. You have had experts and novices help along the way. Parlay has blood, sweat and tears of many sailors and prayers from the rest of us.
Hi Collin just like to say that I think you are a great ambassador for the sailing industry mate. You should be proud of your achievements. Cheers Michael.
Thanks Colin for taking me back to Nanny Cay, we had booked a 5 boat flotilla that was set to sail in July 2020. Well first it was Irma and the marina recovering to get boats and the marina fixed. Then, along came COVID and the closure of the BVI’s to tourism. So we had paid ahead, and the charter company kept sweetening the deal for us to hang in there and not seek a refund. In the end that bought us 10 days of charter vs 7 and $500 per boat for fuel expense. Finally we set sail on June of 2022. 5 Lagoon 450’s from Navigare Charter. Initially when originally booked we were told they would all be new 2018 and 2019 Lagoons. But on arrival and in hindsight it was easy to spot that they had been damaged and had bulkhead issues. The sliding door would not close properly and back windows wouldn’t open due to alignment issues. Our boat was one of the lucky ones in the group. Some had electronics, generator and electrical issues. We also found out on arrival that one of our crew who had represented himself as having a Captains license did not have one, it had been revoked and he had cruised power boats, never a sailing vessel. So me and my wife with our midwestern 25 ft sailing skills on inland lakes became the captain and first mate of a fully inexperienced crew. But it worked, we sailed 8 BVI islands including the passage to Anegada. Brought the boat back in one piece and got credentials so if we ever charter again, we are certified. And yes , we will do it again, because as soon as I returned to the Midwest I started watching Sailing Parley. And while I have no intention of fixing a hurricane damaged catamaran, I will again charter and sail, but next time with a hand selected crew.
I found this fascinating! I looked at these boats when I bought mine. I decided the damage was beyond my abilities and budget to repair. My Lagoon was hurricane damaged but simply dismasted over the front. The repairs were already completed by Zspar and Lagoon. Your story is inspiring!
Well Colin I started watching Parlay while recovering from a stroke. Then covid hit you have been great entertainment! Now years after the Christchurch quake I am finally going to get my house rebuilt. It is unbelievably daunting what I have to do in the next year as I work from home so my income will be affected. What you did is knuckle down and get stuck in I will do the same! Cheers Colin to your team of friends that helped you achieve your goals!
Started watching RUclips back in 2016, its content like this that inspired me to start chasing my goals. Sharing those successes and mistakes made on camera really ignites motivation and shows how a supportive environment can turn dreams into a reality. Really enjoyed the episode!
We lost our 560, Cascadia in the storm. Seeing Nanny Cay (and our boat) in these vids/photos still brings me to tears. All of our friends came through to the other side, but their lives are changed forever. We were a total loss. Jeff and Tara bought her, brought her back to life, and sailed her throughout the islands. Cascadia2 lives on B dock. I cannot stress the love resilience I feel for all those devastated by both Irma and Maria, especially on Tortola. Their collective resilience is beyond words.
Good video. The relevance in much of what you said about taking on a damaged boat can be applied to life, as well, and your closing statement about 20 years is a fact. Tomorrow is promised to no one, and isn't available on Amazon. Time is a precious gift...use it wisely.
Another gem of an episode. Watching this plus the enjoyment of the meet up in Auckland consolidates my resolve to make it to the BVI's for your return. Thanks for the weekly fix of joy 🤗
Colin, I have found whenever there is a catastrophe, you see the worst and the best kindness of people. And the best kindness people become long time friends. Happy Sailing ⛵.
This is an incredible story and to go back and find those special people took time to help you when there was hundreds of boats piled up is truly remarkable. Congratulations to you and those that spent thousands of hours putting Parlay back in better than new condition. Carry on - carry on!
I've been following Parlay since the first post so it was a mixed feeling watching how it was... compared to how things are now. Your courage, strength of purpose and commitment and your humility in terms of crediting everyone who helped you, is a fine reason to keep watching!
This message is for Colin! Hiya mate! I’ve recently discovered your channel, and I’ve binge watched so many, but I haven’t seen any about your ethnicity. I know you’re half Asian. I’m guessing Chinese Malaysian, judging from your mum’s appearance. I saw her in your return to Nz video. The reason why I ask is that I’m half Malaysian Chinese and half kiwi! So nice to see a fellow mix person rocking it! Love it! Nothing but love, man. I’d love to join you guys onboard some day!! Much love ❤️
Great episode Colin to go dack and see the people that helped to get her back in water was great . And to see the devastation was unbelievable how bad things got . Congratulations for seeing it through by the sound of it many didn't and just walked away. Now you are reaping the benefits.
What a journey Parlay Revival has taken us on. Watching the repair work, the setbacks, what and where Colin, Jamie, and the crews have accomplished also been. I would like to see Cpt Glenn spend some time on Parlay Revival. Some role reversal, always do with a good Canuck on board!😊
Can't wait each week for my Parlay fix. Great episode loved the back story, but all those wrecked boats and homes, good to see people having their lives back ❤
I wasn't in at the beginning, but I have watched every single episode from the first to the latest once I found you a couple of years ago. So, you fessed up and told us what you spent on her and anyone who has ever fixed up an old car could see just how much labour went into the re-build, but here's the question...how many other silly eejits bought a hurricane damaged catamaran, and managed to get it not only sea-worthy, but worthy of any inspection? Apart from your one-time next door neighbour David Shih? A splendid effort by you and Ben and Jamie, who single(?) handedly brought Parlay back from the dead. Well done and a wonderful example of grit and determination.
What an amazing journey brother. I think the way you did it wasn’t the easiest but the right way. You know that boat from the bottom to the top. You made it BETTER! 🙌🏼🙏🏻👍🏻❤
Simply one of the best episodes ever on RUclips! Such a great story - full of real life hurricane-size challenges, sooo much emotions & loss, to finding a way to breathe life back into that boat. Thanks for sharing the story of the beginning of your journey and introducing us to the people who helped you through this time to come out successfully! Colin, whether or not someone’s dream involves boat life, you have inspired so many people to dream BIG and lit the fire to seek them out! I hope to meet you one day, have a beer and shake your hand. You have inspired me to calm my fears and retire very early and travel the world full time with my wife! Cheers from Texas!
Colin, I've been following you from the beginning since I saw you guys from afar working in Nanny Cay. It was April 2018 and my wife and I were taking the bare boat course at Rob Swains Sailing School based out of the same marina. I love watching what you've accomplished and the memories this episode brings back.
Loved this episode and the way you were able to reconnect and publicly thank those who helped you get started. Without them, i bet everything would have been so much tougher. It must have been so rewarding for them to see how far you and Parlay have come! I think this is one of the best episodes you’ve made tbh (and loved that the Chosen one was aboard too 😉).
There are not many RUclips channels that I watch regularly but I religiously watch Parlay, the adventures and challenges of a whole other world I’ve come to admire and respect, the dedication of the hard work you and your many many wonderful crew, the awesome and most times funny content you share week after week I just want to thank you❤
Just when you think theses episodes couldn't get any better, WOW !! Love watching you guys...how this channel doesn't have millions of subscribers I just don't understand.
Loved this video. It's good people know to go into these situations with their eyes wide open (and their wallet too. Im just so happy you turned lemons into lemonade with your boat AND that fab crew. As a team you are all amazing! It cant be easy living in tight quarters day in and day out. You really gotta have love and respect for each other and each bring something to the table. Hugs to you all!
We're famous babe! Lol, what great memories. Words can't explain what an amazing time we had. Great episode. Sorry you wont be people to make the Greece trip, but we hope to see all of you guys and girls again soon.
It's been a heck of a lot of fun watching Parley being rebuilt then sailed across the largest ocean in the world. It's going to be interesting to watch her complete the circuit to return to the BVI's!
What many don't understand is the level of personal energy it takes to do this or any boat even an operational one. Also the heartache as you become deeply attached to the boat, I recently sold a boat its moored now in a city I visit occasionally I don't look anymore when I drive past as it slowly deteriorates.
Another brilliant episode, was so good to walk down memory lane I’ve been with you from the very beginning and loved to see how far you have come and how much it means to be a unique generous person and attract like minded people with that energy all paid off in the long run. Your still attracting beautiful people to your journey because that is who you are.
Shout out to Steven, I didn't realize he was on Parlay 2 for the patreons charter cruise. I've seen multiple videos from other youtubers who participated. The only time I probably would have seen him would have been ashore with the entire group, not just those on Parlay 2. Had to be a pretty cool experience for him to get to sail on both Parlay and Parlay 2, not many can make that claim!
Irma survivor here. Been watching you forever Colin. Thanks for approaching this topic with such care and thought of the people who went through this disaster. Cheers bro.
Wow wow wow. It's truly amazing to see just how talented Colin and the Parlay crew are when it comes to storytelling. The effort and passion in their work shows through ❤❤
I am so glad that I am building an aluminum catamaran. When it comes to repairing hull damage I would rather cut and tig weld aluminum all day than deal with composite repairs. I wouldn't mind comparing a hurricane damaged Aluminum catamaran to a fiberglass catamaran.
@@ParlayRevivalThe funny thing is I also own a composite manufacturing business and I am still building an aluminum boat. I am building a very unconventional sailing catamaran and I am not using a naval architect or naval engineer. With the composite business I am involved with aerospace and defense contractors so I asked the engineering department at Lockheed Martin ADP aka Skunkworks to do a side job and design a 60' aluminum sailing catamaran that is capable of going 50 kts while under power.
Hi from NZ, I was At the sail GP in lyttleton over the weekend, on a mates boat to watch the racing, i look around and theres the Parlay Revival in the flesh. What an awesome boat it is. so much bigger in person, im kicking myself i didnt swim over to say hello. Been following you guys for a while now and to see the Parlay in person was the highlight of my week. Good on you Guys, keep on living it up.
i remember of Parlay when i was in the market for the same operation: at that time i was total newbie, never sailed before and living in Eu was complicating even more what already was a complicated task. Long story short i bought the used catamaran i could afford but in good shape and i don't regret: during this time i sailed, made experience and most importantly understood really what a salvage boat can become in terms of money burning; and another thing i undestood is that a hurricane damaged vessel is a bet that require a lot of money, but very often you don't know how much. That said, it's an adventure that i would like to experience so.....maybe in future 😝
I’m not crying!!! I just wish I had the knowledge of my future and where I could put my talents to my happiness!! Very blessed my friend!!!! 20 year count down!!!
That was a fantastic trip back and probably therapeutic for yourself. When people make their mind up to do something like that you’re just in it. Time passes fast and everything feels like a blur. You going back puts everything in perspective, you relive moments and it becomes more than you felt at the time. I’ve been cheering you on right from the beginning and had no doubt that you would succeed. Thanks for the journey and looking forward to so much more.
Colin,I have watch your channel from the day you started it.your drive to see this project through to completion made me addicted to your channel! I saw and watch and appreciated the very hard work you and your crew did and when you had set backs I felt for you guys. You also got me addicted to other boat rebuild channels and enjoy weekly episodes from several channels and now have been enjoying for years .happy sailing for years to come
Colin I don’t think you have ever met a person that hasn’t become your friend. It just goes to show what an incredible human being you are. Thank you for taking us back to the beginning, and introducing us to all the people that helped you, and taught you. Oh yea? Ask me about the Willy T incident... ;)
Really appreciate that, thank you!

So glad you pointed out Laura Decker. I followed her when she circumnavigated and have always wondered what she is doing now.
Yeah...Laura the brave Dutchy. Just Google her name and you find what she is doing now.

Thanks for following along on the journey brother 🤙🏼
Can't wait each week for my Parlay fix. Great episode loved the back story, but all those wrecked boats and homes, good to see people having their lives back ❤
It was heartwarming to see the recovery the island made 🙏🏼
I wasn't in at the beginning, but I have watched every single episode from the first to the latest once I found you a couple of years ago.
Thanks brother!
So great to see you thanking a teacher Colin. Solid video man.
I appreciate that!
Lots of my questions answered there, Colin. Thanks.
Happy to help!
That’s really cool to hear! Thanks for continuing to follow our journey Roger 🙌🏼
There are not many RUclips channels that I watch regularly but I religiously watch Parlay, the adventures and challenges of a whole other world I’ve come to admire and respect, the dedication of the hard work you and your many many wonderful crew, the awesome and most times funny content you share week after week I just want to thank you❤
Thanks so much!
Just when you think theses episodes couldn't get any better, WOW !! Love watching you guys...how this channel doesn't have millions of subscribers I just don't understand.
So here's yet one more great story, very well told. Makes my week every time!
Thanks 😊
Another great episode and so lovely to see Bob & Liz. So many memories and emotions. Love it ❤️
Thanks Tasi ❤️
Loved this video. It's good people know to go into these situations with their eyes wide open (and their wallet too. Im just so happy you turned lemons into lemonade with your boat AND that fab crew. As a team you are all amazing! It cant be easy living in tight quarters day in and day out. You really gotta have love and respect for each other and each bring something to the table. Hugs to you all!
100%
Your regatta video is some of your best, and I watch them all. Thanks for my Sunday morning fix! So happy for you
Glad you like them!
I've been following along on this journey for such a long time. So happy that you're getting the rewards of all that hard work.
Thanks for following along!
@@ParlayRevival looking forward to the patreon meetup when you make it to Europe !
Wow. This video is a time marker for Parlay.
Well done Colin & team.
Great to see “Chosen One” again too. 👍🏽👍🏽
Thanks 👍🏼
Kiwis are so humble 😌
And, kind.
We're famous babe! Lol, what great memories. Words can't explain what an amazing time we had. Great episode. Sorry you wont be people to make the Greece trip, but we hope to see all of you guys and girls again soon.
Just keep going. 😊❤
That's the plan! 😊
It's been a heck of a lot of fun watching Parley being rebuilt then sailed across the largest ocean in the world. It's going to be interesting to watch her complete the circuit to return to the BVI's!
It was worth it! The past becomes a blur when the present rewards are realized. Well done!
Thanks very much 🙏🏼
Shout out to Steven, I didn't realize he was on Parlay 2 for the patreons charter cruise.
Cheers bro.
ONE LOVE..One love for the Sea thru every one person .Its Beautiful
You are a fantastic narrator, National Geographic and nova quality mate. 😎
Cheers mate 🙏🏼
Wow wow wow. It's truly amazing to see just how talented Colin and the Parlay crew are when it comes to storytelling. The effort and passion in their work shows through ❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching 🙌🏼
And now we have David/Mary and the rest of the Shih family following in your footsteps adding more great content and excitement to enjoy.
Fantastic Episode..
@6:29 Man is it ever hard to look at these pictures. Still gets me.
All that gas, oil, fiberglass and plastic directly in to the ocean, not cool.
@@dansiwek3593 Its all nothing compared to an underwater volcano. It's alright.
I cant believe it's been 6yrs. ❤ started 2020, i binged watched 😊 And very Sunday since, look forward to vicariously living the dream❤
Thanks so much 😊
I am so glad that I am building an aluminum catamaran. When it comes to repairing hull damage I would rather cut and tig weld aluminum all day than deal with composite repairs. I wouldn't mind comparing a hurricane damaged Aluminum catamaran to a fiberglass catamaran.
Aluminum is the way to go!
Ah man a shame we couldn’t say hi! Thanks for following Blake!
i remember of Parlay when i was in the market for the same operation: at that time i was total newbie, never sailed before and living in Eu was complicating even more what already was a complicated task.
Awesome episode mate 👍
Simply awesome. Really like your videos Colin!
Many thanks!
New to this channel and blown away! Thank you 🙏🏻
Thanks for watching mate
another great edit, but something that comes to mind is that you're only starting your adventure so good luck and all the best.
Thanks man
I’m not crying!!! I just wish I had the knowledge of my future and where I could put my talents to my happiness!! Very blessed my friend!!!! 20 year count down!!!
One of your best episodes! Love the throwbacks to the BVI days
That was a fantastic trip back and probably therapeutic for yourself. When people make their mind up to do something like that you’re just in it. Time passes fast and everything feels like a blur. You going back puts everything in perspective, you relive moments and it becomes more than you felt at the time. I’ve been cheering you on
right from the beginning and had no doubt that you would succeed. Thanks for the journey and looking forward to so much more.
This was an excellent review of things Colin, good job and thank you for the trip down memory lane.
Colin, you ought to try "sky surfing" right there in Aukland? Gliders flying along the beach along the cliffs over the surf!!!!
