    I built one of these e-bikes with the 36v, 250 watt side motor this weekend. It was frustrating but I got it done. The bracket is a one size fits nothing. I had to reorientate the Motor bracket assembly and could only use one clamp because the two bracket clamp points were too far off from the frame tubes. I used a 40v 6aH Ryobi battery with a Power Wheels battery slot adapter. My area has a lot of hills and my range was just maybe three miles ( half up, half back down). I added a seat in the back for my son or daughter to sit (8&10). So total weight me a a kid ~ 260 pounds and the 26” fold up bike with motor and battery, it’s a heavy rig, lol. It took some finessing to get the chain aligned and proper tension, but in the end was dependable. I’m going to swap out the thumb control for a twist grip and I have a few 40v Ryobi batteries so I can extend the range by carrying a spare battery or two. I’m doing my wife and kids bikes next but using wheel rim assembly brushless motor kit, much more straight forward and I hear more efficient.

      @geneandrew1269 Wow, it sounds like you've been busy! There is nothing like some weekend frustration to make the final product that much sweeter, right? 😂 Kudos for the ingenuity with the Ryobi battery and Power Wheels adapter! Just a heads up: make sure that whatever controller/motor you select is a compatible 40-volt battery. Can't wait to hear about the rest of the family's e-bike adventures! 🚴‍♂️ brushes motors are definitely better. You just need to make sure your controller is designed for a brushless motor. (3 wiers to motor). Thank you for sharing your experience and ideas, A+ 🙂👍

    For the handles super easy way to remove the rubber handle is to blow some air from a compressor or shop vac in there and it will slide like butter.

    To remove handlebar grips, I squeeze a wooden barbecue skewer ( not sure what you'd call these things in the US) down between grips and handlebar, get a can of WD40 with a straw, insert straw with skewer and squirt. Grip will slide off.
    To refit, make sure all the WD40 has evaporated, squirt some hairspray in the grip. Grip will slide on with ease, but will be stuck solid once hairspray dries.

I have tested a 24v 250w and 350w of this type at up to 36v 500w. I am going to add a hub motor to the front, add a trailer and use it as my Station Wagon/Grocery Getter. @@tomiyourtradesguy6708 Do you know how to fix the wobbling of the back part of the back wheel like the black spocket? I reinstalled it 2 times and it still wobbles

    • @tomiyourtradesguy6708
      @tomiyourtradesguy6708  3 года назад +1

      @Milesgamix77 hmm.. how is your wheel? is your axel bent? Did you place your sprocket on a flat surface and see if its laying flat before installing? If all that is ok.. Install sprocket loosely on the spokes and if you have a table vise.. You could put one end of the axel into the vise ( make sure you don't damage threads.. put a nut on axel so that VISE can hold the wheel for you in such a way so that you can spin wheel freely. Spin wheel and see what bolts to tighten more and which to keep snug so that the sprocket is not bending out of place. Good luck !! let me know how you make out..😅😎

    • @Milgamix77
      @Milgamix77 3 года назад +1

      I figured out the problem. I tightened the screws on the sprocket too tightly. When you have it too tight it makes the setup unbalanced since there is more tension on certain screws. I think thats why you said to keep the screws loose?

    • @tomiyourtradesguy6708
      @tomiyourtradesguy6708  3 года назад +1

      @@Milgamix77 look at 4:20 time stamp of my video... you do need to keep it loose but thank little bit at a time snug it up... it does need to be firm on spokes so that the energy is transmitted out into the tire... if too loose you can damage spokes. You got this!!🙂👍

    Solid instructions, just completed my build, I did run into an issue where my foot brushes against the motor while pedaling, ended up shortening the lenth, but that is a minor issue and can be ignored in my opinion. Inspired by your video (and in spite of a different video that says the motor is junk) I attempted to install one of these last weekend. I wasn’t able to sufficiently bend the bracket with hammer and bench vice; but after applying an acetylene torch and anvil finally bent the bracket enough to get the gear alignment close enough to work; the rest of the kit installed easily.
    The first runs were a bit anemic and the voltage gauge on the throttle only showed ½ full; but after swapping out the 36 volt battery
    for a 48, the thing is a blast. The motor temp doesn’t get over 110 F and the controller doesn’t warm up at all.

    • @tomiyourtradesguy6708

      Sweet That is GOOD TO HEAR !!. The two Bikes that that I did are running with no issues with the kit.. I did noticed that if I use only throttle to ride with no pedaling, my controller does get hot. I might add a small heat sink to take away heat from the bag... its always better to keep battery as cool as possible to prolong the life of cells... I didn't see much change. After adding heat sink. (*** so controller is placed at the bottom of the bag. I added termal paste on one side of the controller. I have cut aluminum block and secured it to the controller. Than I cut a hole on the bottom side of the bag to match the size of my aluminum block. I pushed it through the bag out. Added thermal paste on the aluminum block and secured a black aluminum heat sink to it.

    Excellent video , I intend to build one for my daughter but I would advise you to fit e bike brake levers with the motor cut off as the controller supports this , those cheap chinese twist throttles and the thumb throttles can and do fail with the throttle being stuck full on ( videos on RUclips where magnet inside came loose and stuck to hall sensor ) this could give only seconds to react and the motor cut off in the levers will turn the motor power off as well as braking you to a stop safely.

      @@zeroone1219 you just buy a cheap set of e bike brake levers off one of the online sites , they are exactly the same as normal levers except they have a built in switch with cable that goes to the controller as well as the usual brake cable that goes to your brakes , on your old levers turn the adjusters so the slots line up with the lever body and unclip the brake cable then swap the old lever for the ebike one and refit the cable by doing what you just did in reverse , now join the two wire cable to the one on the controller shown as brake ( yellow and black on the one in this video) don't worry about polarity , if you have only one connector marked brake then twist the wires from both brakes together as two pairs so one wire from each brake goes to one side of the controller connector marked brake and the other two go to the other pole of the connector , the switch in the ebike brake will now switch the power to the motor off when you pull ether brake lever , I am sure there will be a video on RUclips somewhere showing how to do this .

      Hi Phil.. I hope you have a great weekend too. I did some research on e-bike kits. I don't want to sound like a downer.. but 24v 250W might not be enough of torque. This is why we went with 36V 450Wkit as this would not have any issues to move 200lb person.. enough torque to ride it without pedaling. For your kit you might need to pedal and use throttle at the same time especially on start up and up hill. My battery and charger is in the description... just click SHOW MORE..

I have gone up some hills where others people jumped of their bike to push it up the hill and I was able to clime it together with pedal and motor assist. @tomiyourtradesguy6708  Год назад

      @dart70ca We'll too keep gears and sprocket same and get more range hmm... things to keep in mind.
      Pedal more: Utilize pedal power to assist the motor, especially at lower speeds. (From complete stop) Pedaling increases efficiency and reduces strain on the battery. (Less current draw)
      Smooth riding: Maintain a steady and smooth riding style, avoiding sudden accelerations and hard braking. This helps to optimize energy consumption.
      Check tire pressure: Ensure that your tires are properly inflated as under-inflated tires can increase rolling resistance, affecting the range.
      Avoid heavy loads: Reduce the weight carried on your e-bike, as heavier loads require more power and can decrease the range.
      Battery maintenance: Keep your battery in good condition by charging it regularly and storing it properly when not in use.
      These tips will not cost you anything and are more beneficial for body health..
      If you have some money to spend.. just get bigger battery capacity ( amp hour rating ) 😅 hopefully you found some of this information useful.

    How fast can it go how much km

  • @Rob337_aka_CancelProof
    @Rob337_aka_CancelProof Год назад

    This is the first time I've seen one done without disc brakes and I'm wondering how that affects you're breaking is that something to worry about because at 53 and in not very great health I don't want to create a death trap or something that wears out brake pads so fast I have to replace them every week or two if I use the bike a lot (and I will)?

    • @tomiyourtradesguy6708
      @tomiyourtradesguy6708  Год назад

      Hey Rob so my break pads are fine with no difrence to it since the motor was installed. So I believe it will last you years. When stopping just turn the throttle down and press break. As for the bracket.. when ever using a universal kit .. typically it is reasonable to expect some modification. Depending on your bike frame some need it and some don't. As for the integrity of the metal it's a 3/16 plate and I'm not concern with that. The only concern would be for people to have ability and patience to bend bracket in place if needed. The cost was proximately $300 for kit with battery.

    Gud day sir, I have 24V, 350w motor controller From (YK31C) (YIYUN TECH) and 350w brush motor , it's okay to use ( 2 ) battery capacity of 12v 30Ah each ?

    • @tomiyourtradesguy6708
      @tomiyourtradesguy6708  Год назад

      Yes you can, BUT 350W motor in my case would have hard time moving me up a hill I'm 97Kg. It is good if you use it as pedal assist. If you are around 70kg than should not have problem.

      @tomiyourtradesguy6708  Месяц назад

      @YylerHdhd hi there it's never good if things wobble. Was sprocket bent, or is it just sitting uneven on the spokes? Some wobble is acceptable... you can run in a problem with a chain falling off if there is too much play. 🫡

    • @tomiyourtradesguy6708
      @tomiyourtradesguy6708  Год назад

      Well that's a good question... definitely not the bikes that I have used heh 😅.. when selecting a bike should look at the back forks and see that they are straight as possible without a bump at the end. So that you don't have to bend bracket as much to offset the frame.
      If you see the second section of video you will understand what I'm saying. 😊
