That intro is so 90s and wonderful. Also a really great and straight forward upgrade - the idea of adding contrasting woods to the Ikea furniture makes such an immediate difference!
Little tip for making a double sized section! Instead of marking, cutting, spackling, and painting, you can switch the single shelf with the double and you just have to flush trim the dowels! That’s probably confusing, but this is what I’ve done in the past!
I was literally going to say the exact same thing. Like, for real, how does one claim to "hack" ikea furniture when they haven't even figured out how to just flip parts instead of cutting the entire board? lol
@@nasosal oof. i feel like he really destroyed the structural integrity of that spot on the shelf. alot easier to paint 2 dowels instead of what he did here.
I'm a bit lazy, so I just rotated the center vertical board and moved one of the center horizontal boards to the vertical support position. A quick disassembly and reassembly without cutting. My vintage receiver, equalizer, and tape deck are now centered directly below the turntable. My speakers are larger and vibration isolated on their own 2 cube shelf units rotated vertically and used as speaker stands (looks like you have the perfect space to do the same if vibration is effecting your turntable).
nice! You didn't need to cut the vertical piece at 0:52, just swaping the 2 short horizontal pieces with the long vertical and then placing 1 of the short horizontals vertically was enough, it fits in the Kallax model.
I made the exact same shelf style in my garage but didn't rip the 2x4 down. I ended up with an 8' long shelf that's 2' deep. Works great and very strong even with 1/2" OSB shelving. Even with a bottom shelf just off the garage floor it's a bit top heavy and I secured it to the wall. 2:57
looks great i love the simplistic of it but the one thing that stands out that you need to fix is cable management, seeing the cables in the back running all over takes away from the clean feel.
Great build dude! You could also attach a piece of painted ply as a backing for the shelf to keep your cables out of sight, just drill out behind the receiver to route the cables to
I can't find a TV bench I like (at a price I can afford 😅) - if I can get my hands on a saw & remove a divider on the Kallax, I'll have a pretty damn decent compromise!! Awesome video, man, thank you!
Mike your creativity just grows and grows !!!! ....If you have any tips on hiding the cords, I would to to know them, I am keen to make an ent unit thanks again and again for the fun and fab content as always :)
Looks great Should have cut a backer board while at home depot Please use a push stick on that table saw next time pretty hard handling your records without fingers!!
New subscriber here and pretty cool to see how you did this Kallax hack. I'm looking to set up a similar sideboard / record cabinet / media console and this one looks like it has the best storage options compared to a lot of the pieces in stores right now. Hope to see more cool IKEA hacks in the future!
Might need to add a third leg in the middle as even vinyl records can add substantial weight. I was thinking of using the steel IKEA legs for the bottom but now I think it’s better to leave it flat on the floor
Awesome video. You could legit get a Ton of views if you do another kallex video setup for the new ps5 coming out. The hot topic these days is how everyone who uses a kallax shelf won't be able to fit the ps5.
what kind of screws did you use? did you pull them out when glued? The screws seem to be unnoticable and to not spoil the surface, how did you do that? I am a total zero at this and want to make one)
I just did this hack (did the bottom as well), and used only liquid nails on the faces of the panels, with normal wood glue on the plywood edges/joints. I'm curious how long I should let it sit without moving it around, for the liquid nails to cure. I've read it can take up to 7 days--but that seems crazy. Anyway, nice video, thanks for the information, was really helpful.

When you steal Hoovie's garage 90's intro

I was wondering if the shelf "switch" would work. Flush mount dowels...?

That intro is pure gold. Gets me every time

I was going to comment the same thing, if they are square there would be no problem.
Same here. There would be no need to add the spackle
Can some one help me and explain it better i dont get it
Yes! I learned the hard way. After cutting I realized all I had to do was use the long vertical piece horizontally. Live and learn.
omg why I didn't I read the comments before cutting
It's hilarious to see people wanting records again. Makes me feel a little less silly for keeping some myself. Thanks!
okay but.. the *SUNBATHER* vinyl there... soooo good man..
Sunbather is probably in my top 5 fav albums of all time
that came out wicked - much more character this way
The intro itself deserves a like!
PLEASE never change that intro!!
That intro is just perfect. Good job guys keep it up!
hands down the best intro! great project!

The intro alone earned a sub
Dude, this should totally come back
That intro is the best thing I’ve seen in a long time
I don't even own a garage but I'll watch this because I can always rely on you for some good entertainment. 1:49
Best intro ever Mike
YES THE INTRO!!!!! Music spot on!!!
Honestly I’ll probably never build something myself but your videos are so awesome I still watch! Keep up the good work! :)
That intro is mint
Amazing video and I love the half-lap joint of the base !
Perfect IKEA hack ! Love the finish product.
Love this series, brotato chip. Bravo!

Awesome video bro ! I’m super happy this is a series ! Crazy how a little work can make a piece look so much cooler ! Keep up the great work !
Thank you for uploading this! Much appreciated. 3:53
you got my like with Sunbather buddy !! Great project !
Came for some 'hacks and stayed because of the intro. Good one man!
The intro is my favorite part!
That's super sweet! Thanks, Mike!

HA that intro was fantastic!!
You could call this series Hackea.
This is amazing! We just started our vinyl records youtube channel and were thinking of upgrading our kallax, thank you for this!
I can't find a TV bench I like (at a price I can afford 😅) - if I can get my hands on a saw & remove a divider on the Kallax, I'll have a pretty damn decent compromise!! Awesome video, man, thank you!
That intro. Awesome.
I love this series from you! the plywood really makes the whole thing pop!
Really diggin the style, plus that intro 👌😂
I love the IKEA hacks theme, Mike!
Haha, Thanks Seth
You don't want the speakers on the same surface as the player. Vibration will mess up your sound. Perhaps a speaker stand build?
Plus the speakers are upside down.
Excellent as always
Mike your creativity just grows and grows !!!! ....If you have any tips on hiding the cords, I would to to know them, I am keen to make an ent unit thanks again and again for the fun and fab content as always :)
That’s brilliant Mike
Yesss, KAWS Companion!
Been waiting for this!
That intro killed me! 😂 You look adorable!
Nice kaws figures my guys
The intro is killing me!
Love this series
Looks great
Should have cut a backer board while at home depot
Please use a push stick on that table saw next time pretty hard handling your records without fingers!!
looks good, ive never built anything before. can i just take the dimensions to home depot and have them cut all these boards to exactly what i need?

That was a sick intro

Seems like a video of your setup and collection is in order!
godammit i love the intro.
Loving the intro, Nice hack!

Ellen's your camera man, whaaaaat
Nicholas Sok THATS WHAT I SAID 😂😂
Loved the intro!
Great video!
Hey Mike, awesome video. Would love to see what kind of ikea hacks you could do with one of their pine bed frames!
Good hack, but what about those speakers on desk, did you make them own. If it is, share that video.
what kind of screws did you use? did you pull them out when glued? The screws seem to be unnoticable and to not spoil the surface, how did you do that? I am a total zero at this and want to make one)
Awesome Mike!!!!
Nice Mike! 👍🏻
the intro alone gets a thumbs up lmao
Watched video. Unload dishwasher. Get ready for bed. Lovely!
god, he nailed the intro XD
Really awesome 👏🏽
Deafheaven vinyl FTW!!!!!!!
Great work man. What is the name of the red and black figuring?
Anthony Diaz KAWS companions.
LOVE the intro haha 😂
What and where do you get those black and red figures ???
I just did this hack (did the bottom as well), and used only liquid nails on the faces of the panels, with normal wood glue on the plywood edges/joints. Liquid nails is pretty dang strong after a day. It should be good after that
Love all ur ideas... 😍
Of course you flash the most aesthetic record
Awesome idea! Looks great!
Love it! I have the same UTurn record player. Such a great turntable.
Love it~
What speakers are you using with the turntable?
Nice job! 👍
Love the legs!
Did you respond to any of the comments asking about the large speakers at the end?
Haha mike I saw those candles you made on insta another great video btw
Pretty sweet! I think it would have looked 7% better by sanding/adding ply to the bottom
Best intro ever
Those power cords and speaker cords could look cleaner with some white gaff tape, other than that love it!
Great project! What speakers are the big ones?they look awesome
I made one of these about a year ago but the IKEA shelfs started sagging from the weight of the records. ):
Wow I’m really loved it, me encanto gracias, thank you so much!! 1:25
love the intro!
