I'm honestly surprised none of the big console makers like Sega or Nintendo, have considered re-releasing their old titles on cartridge, or even better, comission new titles using their IPs, in some sort of vinyl revival. As people would go made over it!
Also a legitimate way to buy games that are way out of the price range of most collectors in the used game market.
Square Enix used to reprint their ps1 games and sell them on their site until a few years ago.
@@tobykassulke2385 Was that just new old stock?
@@Larry yea but they had silver discs instead of black
Since they want to sell NSO online instead it seems… Can you imagine getting those cards bundled with NSO time codes? That would actually be a neat combo to warrant a higher price point, too. Like I remember some time or money code cards having unique covers. Paying like 30-50 bucks for a replica bundled with a time code sounds kind of interesting.🤔
I think the reason console manufacturers don't do this (or most second/third parties too) is because it would likely be too expensive and not sell well.
Retro game collecting is already a niche thing and most people who are interested in playing older titles would probably either play them through a service like nso, through a rerelease on a console/pc store, getting a remastered or remade version, or through compilation titles.
i've been considering putting an actual nwc rom into the gold cart replica, so i'd like to see you try it too
Yeah, same here. It's too perfect not to.
John Riggs did it over on his channel.
It’s kinda hard bc one of the tabs was made wrong so you gotta cut some things
@@SM642Render99Really? Is it the one that judges whether or not it’s a valid NES cart
@@fuseegelee no the tabs INSIDE the shell
I think what makes this game successful is the fact they are NOT asking full price for it. 30 bucks is fair and 60 for a deluxe set is also okay.
Yeah if they made it full price people wouldn’t buy it because they would argue it’s just NES roms tied with a pretty bow
Half pricing it doesn’t make people do that for some reason
Yeah, have to agree. I would have preferred to pay 40 bucks, but also get NES Remix style bonuses, but since it's speedrun focused only, 30 bucks is okay, 20 would have been even more insane, but I can see why they wanted to go 30 instead. But apart from that, still went with the Deluxe just for the bonuses alone (I'm not sure I would have bought the game alone).
@@fuseegelee You would be surprised at how many people will buy overpriced Nintendo crap, I mean they're selling games from 2017 for $60 still.
@@HamsterXFiles theyre selling donkey kong country returns for $60 when it was a nintendo selects for $20 on both of the platforms it released on
Unrelated to the actual video, but I love that the closest NES game you had on hand, or at least the one you chose to display, was Mario is Missing.
I really don’t care all too much for the game itself, but man this special edition is incredibly cool
trust me, the Japanese one is even cooler
@@pinksheep752 yeah I would import the Japanese one cause the famicom controllers are cooler than a plastic shell
@@GeorgeRobertson69and the controllers work too on your switch to use
@@GeorgeRobertson69 Oh, I could have gotten Controllers instead, essentially for free? Okay, that's really cool, didn't know.
Same I want the items but not the game lol😂
I opened my NWC gold cart and time portal to 1990 opened up
This whole thing is a collectors dream! Seeing you homebrew the cartridge into an actual working game would be incredible! 🤩
the coolest part of the deluxe set is the fact that we got scammed here in the West while Japan has a deluxe set with two WORKING famicom NSO controllers
The west always gets scammed when it comes to what Japan always gets.
But I already have two NES NSO controllers. Why would I need more?
@@Morgil27 because they're famicom, it looks different.
@@drwoHeylK So buy them from Nintendo's Japanese site. You still don't have to buy the game to get them. They've been on the market for years.
@@drwoHeylKand they work toi
I love how the first cartridge he had on hand was Mario Is Missing
XD
Edit: forgot to add the timestamp… 6:15
I loved NES remix so when I heard this was coming and putting a speedrun twist on those classic challenges, complete with online leaderboards to compete with other people I knew I had to pick this up asap! the deluxe edition extras were the icing on the cake. that NWC NES gold cart was freaking sweet and I had to display it up on my games shelf.
Johnriggs already modded his and cut it up to put the board from the og in it.
i didnt want to be a jerk, but i was going to say the same thing...
@@imdifferentchetwow jerk much
I have a love/hate thing for this release. One the one hand. It’s GREAT to have the NWC brand back. It’s no longer this obscure event that happened years ago. The challenges are good modern updates. Your scores are posted online, and the deluxe set (for the most part) is pretty cool.
But on the other hand. It is just a rebranded NES Remix. The art cards are useless. The replica cartridge is cool but useless (the pins you can at least use those). They should have included the full games to these challenges, but worst of all. They missed a GOLDEN opportunity. They should have included the original challenges from the events. (EPIC FACE PALM). So I’m really torn on this.
This set is gold!
I was actually really impressed with the quality. I have my cartridge on display. Not sure what I'm gonna do with the art cards 😂
This is great! This is what special editions should be like, plenty of cool extras that are good display items.
I picked this game up two days ago. The Gamecube was the first Nintendo console my family had so I don't have any NES nostalgia, but I'm having a ton of fun in spite of that.
The NES replica cartridge was such a cool touch. I was wondering what was inside, if anything at all. Perfect timing.
I had no idea this existed until I watched this video. I instantly bought the last two at my local Target! 😅
I bought 2 of these box sets. 1 for displaying all the cool stuff and one to keep sealed :P I know it's a bit dum but yeah I never do this but for this game, I just had to!
Awesome video. That is a beautiful collection. I would definitely love to see if a homebrew board of NWC could fit in that shell and be used with a real NES.
you should definitely make a video putting the actual rom in the cartridge. It's a project I'm also interested in doing and would definitely love to follow along with a guide from you!
Hot Take, I like Zelda II
Just bought the collectors edition, coming in Tuesday!!!
sorry to say it, but I feel as though you got scammed… in Japan they have a Deluxe set which has basically the exact same stuff but instead of the gold cart they give you two working Famicom NSO controllers
@@pinksheep752 😭😭😭😭
@@gamingcornerpodcastat least the value will increase if you keep it for decades from now. If you want to make even more money, I suggest you buy the Japanese edition too. Combination of them would be at the thousands.
Cool! I never realized there was a stand in the bottom of the box! Now I have to decide where to display the cartridge. 😅
Such a good deluxe set - i'm surprised it didn't sell out instantly. Glad I got mine!
Absolutely do it! That would be totally cool to use that awesome empty game card for the original Nintendo game system!
There doesn't appear to be a slot for a circuit board to extend out of the shell, so it would probably require modification to fit one.
I’d love to see world championships rom in that
Hey, I can't find anything more on the new carl update. I'm definitely looking forward to it. Just curious, are there going to be new levels? Either way I'm excited! Also looking forward to whatever future projects you have.
id love to see a Short or something of different NES and Famicom PCBs going in the case, it doesnt look like there would be space for the actual pins, but i would still like to see video of it being fiddled with, yknow?
Wooow. Incredible! The deluxe set is also worth it and I have to yet pick up the game. I would like to see a rom hack with that golden cartridge. Probably those types of cartridges that have many games in it?
You can just get the NWC reproduction carts, I got gold and gray carts to complete my collection, I’m getting the Campus edition soon.
The art cards are essentially the box art of the games with an iconic sprite from each game on the back.
No shit.
@@jethromason8160 No need to be rude. Not everyone is aware of that.
@@silversonic1how would they not be aware of that?
@@DrButthugger Kids. Many people have never seen an NES, let alone the games.
Maybe I'll buy this one day and keep it as a collectable

@@drwoHeylK yes.
I hope you take my ideas into account.
The Gamecube GBA Link Cable games would be the best.
@@ChrisYupe Animal Crossing is one of them, thought I would put that out there.
I've seen John Riggs already do that custom job, and while it does work, he had to dremel the heck out of it to make it fit, Even more so because of the dip switches.
I'm thinking about getting myself the physical collector's edition of that game real soon!
I would be super interesting in seeing if you can actually make that cartridge actually work by homebrewing it
So glad I managed to get a Deluxe version for those glorious pins and the cartridge along with the game. Not so glad that it was exclusive to EB Games.
Awesome video, man
Appreciate it!
I'd love to put a World Champtionship repro board in the gold cartridge, I'd be awesome, until I realize I dont own a NES
Those rubber stoppers on the back of the pins are called dammits.
This was cozy to watch :)
That's not reverse cover art lol, it's just extra inside printing for fun cause the case is transparant.
Those pins look amazing, congratulations 🎉 Chadtronic!!!
This isn’t chadtronic
would love to see you mod the replica cartridge
Maybe you could test out the cartridge, but I am worried if it's a different plastic and might wreck the outer shell being heated up from a game playing...
But yeah...
I might have to pick this up myself too..Still deciding...
Hm they used an actual Cart Mold. Id like to see someone put a repro cart in there, Sucks that you'd have to Dremel the slot at the bottom though.
NINTEN DREW
That's sick, a reasonably priced nintendo game.
i think is nice to put nes game in there, but it would be cool if you put an everdrive with all the nes championships on it
Honestly, if i had money to blow on random stuff I would definitely buy two of these just so i could actually put a board into one of the cartridges. Idk why, but i want it to be an actual playable cart. I guess what im saying is, yes I want to see a video like that haha
wait there's a cartridge stand??? oh my god I've owned this thing since launch and had NO IDEA lmao
I bought the japanese edition because of the famicom joy-con and they are pretty neat
I saw a video where someone took the NWC game board and stuck it in this gold cart, he used a Dremel for the dip switch cutout. Would you ever consider doing the same with yours?
It’s so hard to open without bending the cardboard, I like the game so far just wish there was more.
This version is cool, but it's a shame we didn't get something closer to the Japanese version that came with two Famicom controllers instead of the replica cart.
Yes put a ninetendo world champion blaster / bord in the carriage
I want it for the pins alone.
Makes me wonder… one could probably just replicate the stand, but leave a space in the middle for the actual connector on a real cartridge. * _Urge to get a laser cutter intensifies_ *
Missed opportunity to retool the NES case into a case for the Switch version on the game, imo
I can understand that the repro cart has no internals because nintendo hates bootleg repros and stuff like that after all.
the inside of the packaging is way different than the Australian version.
They really should have hidden a little Easter egg inside of the golden NES cart
I would like to see you do something with the game cart
There’s also a Japanese SPECIAL edition of the game, which is way cooler than the ‘Deluxe set’, so I definitely recommend it! It does however come with the Japanese version of the game (obviously), so keep that in mind
The Japanese game itself is also had its similarities but a different game too
Bro you gotta put a board in that case!!
Been waiting for this vid much kove
love the vids, keep it up
6 minutes to get to the cartridge... Hmmm.
8 to open it...
I won't spoil the outcome.
I always try to be careful when opening these boxes...
Tears the corner 😢
Idk what video you saw 😂 no damage here
That would be cool
Someone did the mod and seemingly found that one of the stands was placed wrongly. However, since he used a badly modded cartridge as the source and template and used a dremmel despite admitting that his dremmel skills were nil, the thing looks pretty amateurish DIY.
What's inside? Air, obviously. The gold cartridge was never advertised as being functional in any way. It looks pretty cool though.
And a worthless piece of plastic metal
I've been thinking of getting the Nintendo world championship game but is it worth getting though
the game with no special stuff is 30$, but forced digital, but the physical edition is forced special edition which means 60$, the price of the average nintendo game, for the physical game, 5 pins, an NES cart, the stand for the cart, and some cool double-sided cards.
Bro had to use Mario’s Time Machine 😭😭😭😭
Shucks.. I was waiting for game play off the switch. 😊
It’s not the same mold. Not even close. You’d have to cut it up in several spots to have a chance of making it work.
My mom wanted to pull out are Nintendo and put fake Cartridge in it.
I would pay a hundred bucks for a working NES cartridge.
John Riggs put the game in one.
Wasn’t the world championship part of Nintendo 100th anniversary?
1. The NES was made in 1985,.
2. They were founded in 1889, the 100th anniversary happened hen the Game Boy launched, in 1989.
@@drwoHeylK so they made the game boy to celebrate
@@alextoolstudioand it was the only greatest anniversary for the company too.
I got the deluxe set, haven’t even opened it
Would’ve been cool if the Switch cart was gold.
Better to use and display something like this. It'd have no purpose other than a bad investment otherwise. Considering the amount of time needed for it to appreciate that it'd have to be kept safe and it might not even appreciate along with inflation.
They wouldn’t care at all if you never open it.
2:56 im trigger you not said something after gsme title like did with rest
Fun (although pointless) fact; the cartridge fits snug in an actual NES
It would be cool to make that game pak playable do they sell replicas to install to attach to this game pak
Hello Logitech 729p webcam!
Love you dude
Use a knife to lift open box flaps 😉
Nintendo should’ve made the nes game real
NES edition, does this mean there is a Moderate edition?
DO IT!
The original Zelda for Nintendo was a gold cartridge
yay new vid
Hey, I’m early to a Nintendrew video
I want to frame the art cards
Too bad it didn't have an actual working cartridge so I could plug it in to my NES.
That empty cartridge is weak, should've just have the PCB.
I was thinking of buying the deluxe set so I could shove the game pak in my nes and break my nes
