Chrono Trigger - 'The Day The World Revived' EWI + Electric Piano Cover

- Here's my first track for 2019! Sometimes titled 'The Last Day of the World', this track was a request by Kokobon0514. Hope you enjoy what I did with it! I feel like this sort of ensemble is something I easily settle into arranging for, but drawing the original 30 second loop out into an almost-4-minute track pushed my arrangement chops a little more than usual :)

@@Soundolefunny enough I was going through a lot of your videos that day and didn’t realize this was more than just a cover, that you actually added parts that were all your own. I’ll say I only know this cause it fit SO perfectly that I actually had to go and listen to the original to make sure I wasn’t just forgetting a part where the song got a bit more complex. Those additions were nothing short of perfect. 💜🥰

Funnily enough, I've found that some of the simpler three-part works that I've covered stand on their own with very little arrangement necessary, in much the same way as a wind trio would work, but 16-bit tracks often benefit from some slight fleshing out or reimagining to sound like a complete and finished work.
YEAHHHH! Chrono Trigger is my favorite soundtrack of all time! The samples are so distinctive, but you got that slightest hint of a shaped "bell" tone for the electric piano, hot damn this is good good good

Your renditions have a huge appeal to me, these days I'm getting more and more interested in atmosphere and rendition of feeling through music and peculiar sonorities, and your videos just keep me thinking about those things

I love this piece. Your arrangement of it is beautiful!
I grew up in a rough living arrangement, and my childhood was a dark time for me where a lot of the light came from video games with good stories. This moment where the people who had given up all hope for anything but laying down, resting in an "enertron" and then laying around some more until they died off, found a small seed of hope for their future... it spoke to me so much. Especially after the doom and gloom that the game had shown us just before.
Thank you for making an arrangement that really captures that glimmer bit of hope!
Thanks for your kind words, and sharing that with me! Very often when making these sort of works, I'm disconnected from the emotional effect that the games originally had on the people who played them; it's nice to be reminded of that every so often! :)
Love it. There are some tracks you do that just fit so well with the EWI aesthetic, and this is one of them. Love the addition of the synth as well.
Thanks so much, I'm glad you think so! This went through a few iterations in my head before settling into this arrangement. I thought about just replicating the original with it's iconic delay, or trying to write something fugal on these themes, and at one point I was even thinking about mashing it up with Cosmo Canyon. I'm happy with where it finally settled :)
I was like, "I appreciate seeing a manly knee in the piano shot, but why the HECk is he wearing shorts in the winter?" And then I realized it's not winter where you are. It's not winter at all!
We were heat-waving pretty hard when I recorded this! Yeah; behind the scenes youtube magic for you: even when wearing a suit, my summery shorts are typically juuuust out of shot :)

Incredible. This might be some of your best work yet. Gorgeous piano playing and that expressive EWI work is next level. I really enjoyed your improvisitory sounding section on the piano as well. It works so well! I also really loved the way this video looked, especially with the color coordination between your shirt and the video border. Very classy. What a wonderful way to start the new year. :) Also, you are insanely close to 5000 subs!! That's amazing!

That keyboard tone is a dead ringer for the original. I love the use of EWI to provide the cold texture.

Thanks so much! I'm glad the general consensus seems to be that there was enough variety, because that tune is repeated verbatim quite a bit (albeit in different registers, on different instruments, with different accompaniments).

Love this time period in Chrono Trigger, and love this cover of one of the lesser-known tunes from the OST! Very ethereal, mate. Great sequence of solos, and the bass slide at 3:40 makes it, heh. 😉 Wonderful arrangement!! 👍

I presume you mean the EWI? It's an Akai EWI 4000s, a type of breath-controlled synthesizer. Plenty more information is up on youtube if you want to learn more about it! :)
