Furthermore, the bible mention "Baptismal salvation" several places in the bible,,(John 4:1-2, Acts 2:38-41, Galatians 4:26-29), & Mark 16 15-16. (Even the red sea crossing and Noah's flood was a type of baptism to come)People, it's not about egos here, it's about taking God's word for it. God's word V/S Man's word. May God bless you all. The Church Of Christ salute you.

Before Jesus died he could save anyone he wanted to. After his death & resurrection, we are under the New Testament and are required to believe & be baptized as instructed by the Apostles who were guided by the Holy Spirit and had all authority to set instructions for salvation.

The Church of Christ believes that baptism specifically for the forgiveness of sins is necessary to receive the Holy Spirit and forgiveness of sins, correct? Why then, does Ephesians 1:13 say: "When you believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession - to the praise of His glory." I believe the answer is that the Church of Christ has misinterpreted Acts 2:38 (see my post below), and emphasized it above entire books such as John and Romans which clearly outline God's plan of salvation through faith. The waters of baptism do not bring forgiveness of sins - faith in Jesus Christ does. Acts 10:43 - "All the prophets testify about Him that everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins through His name." These are clear scriptures. Search the scriptures and decide for yourself. It is our responsibility to accurately handle the Word of truth.

If you look at who those books are written to you might see that they are written to churches. People that heard God's word and were baptized and needed encouragement to keep their faith.

    • @davidkliewer800
      @davidkliewer800 9 лет назад

00boka1b I don't think that is correct. For example, John was written so that everyone might have eternal life through faith in Jesus. The audience in that book is everyone, not a specific church. It's very clear from John that we are saved by faith, and this is Paul's message very clearly as well. John never says we need to be baptized for salvation, and neither does Paul (Paul actually separates baptism from the Gospel, which saves us, and Paul only baptized a few people). In John 7:38, Jesus promises the Holy Spirit to all future believers. Acts which I referenced was not written to a church, it was written by Luke as a historical narrative for Theophilus. In any event, the context you indicated has no bearing on the fact that Paul said they received it when they believed. I would encourage you to read Galatians 3, and I don't think anyone can come to another conclusion other than that the Holy Spirit is received upon belief. Read the first few chapters of Romans, and regardless of the fact that Paul is writing to churches, he is stating facts about salvation. In Acts 10, the gentiles received the Holy Spirit BEFORE baptism. Why then were they baptized? There is just an overwhelming amount of scripture that supports this view. Thanks for the comment back though, it's something to think about.

Baptists contradict themselves, I was recently approached by two, after their Romans Road presentation they told me that if I would, "bow my head and pray and ask Jesus to come into my heart, He would come into my heart and save me," I told them none of the early ministers of the New Testament church told anyone to say some prayer to be saved. I showed them they the early ministers of the church told people to repent, believe the gospel and confess Jesus Christ as Lord and then be baptized in his name, one of them then told me that baptism had nothing to do with salvation, "that a person gets saved the moment they accept Jesus as thier saviour and not a second later." I pointed out to them that a few minutes ago they told me I would be saved as a result of me praying some prayer asking Jesus to come into my heart, now they were telling me something different, that a person gets saved the monent they accept him and not later. I was a member of a fundamental Baptist church, I used to go out "soul-winning" using this Romans Road garbage, until I realized the contradictions and lack of Bible support I also left the Baptist church as well because of this and other contradictionsin Baptist theology.

Not to mention, johnny never addresses Paul's explanation of tounges in 1 Corinthians 11,12,and 13. The subject of tounges needs to be addressed everywhere it's mentioned in the NT. I do believe the "Sinner's Prayer" is very Biblical. If done as a checklist type of thing just repeating after someone else without giving God your heart, obviously this is not Scriptural, however the prayer if done genuinely is Biblical. I would start with Romans 10:9 as evidence. We also know that salvation is a work of the heart which is consistent throughout the entire Bible. So giving Christ your heart is Biblical. God wants to endwell us (Ephesians 3:16-17 as one example). God gave us prayer as a means to communicate with Him. If we communicate to Him through prayer that we genuinely are giving Him our heart through faith, and inviting Him to endwell us, that's Biblical.

***** I believe a genuine faith is what saves. James is talking about a faith that is dead (i.e. just intellectual belief). A few honest questions for you...Can you tell me where I twisted scripture? Do you not take the Bible at its word in John 3:16? Lastly, if we are only indwelled by the Holy Spirit after baptism for the remission of sins, can you please explain Acts 10 (Gentiles baptized after Holy Spirit received), Eph 1 (states we receive the Holy Spirit upon belief), and Gal 3 (same thing)? Not trying to make this an argument, but I really would like to know how these verses can be explained because they do not fit your view. Thanks.

This idea tongues are known languages is dead wrong. First they said they heard each in their own language, thst if taken literally indicates a miracle of hearing not speaking. Second, Paul said when you speak in an unknown tongue no man understands but he speaks to God. He said his spirit prays but his understanding is untruthful. He says more but that's enough.

And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: 10Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. 11The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. 12I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. 13And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. 14I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Since every prayer a sinner prays is a sinners prayer and since the promise whosoever calls on the name of the Lord.. sure you can be saved by praying as a sinner.
The thief is a great example. And Simon in Acts was told by Peter to pray that God would forgive the wickedness of his heart..
Since Paul in Rom 10 tells us after Believing the gospel in our heart and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.. then yes of course a sinner can be saved the only way God said to be saved..
What can't lead to salvation is adding anything to the gospel..
Paul said he was sent to preach the Gospel and not to Baptize.
Therefore making Baptism Not a part of the gospel that agrees throughout the entire Bible.
Abraham is the example God gives in his word.

Johnny, here is one thing I agree with you on. I don't believe in a "sinner's prayer" as such. I do believe a sinner prays AFTER the conviction of the Holy Spirit, but there is no such thing as an apostolic sinner's prayer in the Bible. Too, as a Southern Baptist, I'm not big on altar calls. That may comes as somewhat of a surprise, but I don't think it's healthy to coerce people into coming down the aisle. I truly believe that salvation comes as a result of God's work, not ours. Though man must respond to the call of God, man does not instigate the call to salvation.

The preaching of Jesus' baptism for the remission of sins was prophesied by Jesus in Luke 24:46-49. This happened AFTER Jesus had been resurrected and during the time He dwelt with the Apostles, but before His ascension. In these versus He is foretelling the events of Acts , which is the first time that repentance and remission of sins is preached. Chronologically, this is some time after the thief on the cross.

The term " saved " is mentioned on 46 occasions, within the Old Testament, and on 57 occasions, within the New Testament. According to the 1611/1789 KJB ( and even the Geneva ), and through proper etymology, the term " saved " rarely implies to an " eternal " sense. The KJB has more legitimate support than any ten forms of classical literature combined ( according to a Primitive Baptist Elder and friend ) and was written on a 6th grade English level. Neither Baptism or the " gospel " have Any part, what so ever, with anyone's eternal state. Considering Romans 8:28, the phrase, " all things " is mentioned. The phrase, " all things " is mentioned on numerous other occasions, within the Bible. In fact, the phrase, " all things " is mentioned on 7 occasions, within the Book of Revelation, alone, and must be understood within its proper context.

@@JGuti-ko2xe I am being 100% sincere! Please explain to me why a very sincere prayer of repentance is not biblical. It is 100% biblical and I was saved by it. I would not have suffered the spiritual attacks I did if my prayer had not saved me. I read the Bible every day, by the way, and already read it from beginning to end two times. mariav1234 Sure, I know when you experience a dramatic change in life that you have to attribute it to God. I know how that feels. Because you feel like there is no way you could have changed on your own, that it has to be the power of the Almighty. I understand that. I'm not trying to belittle you in any kind of way. Also, of course, there's no way to know for sure what we say in these comments is true or not but, I'm being honest. You see, I've read the bible once all the way through and, I'll be honest, a lot of Paul's letters and the prophets were hard to understand. I felt that because I was a born again Christian that I should read my bible all the way through but, you know as well as I and everybody else that we need to have things explained to us. If you're a serious bible reader, you're going to come in to contact with scripture that is hard to make sense of. So, you go to the people you trust for answers. Which may or may not be the correct answer. All I'm saying is that if you have had an experience of forgiveness nobody can talk you out of your certainty with scripture because it's not scripture that saved you. It was the changing of your thinking, the experience of being attacked that gave you certainty. So, no matter what the apostles wrote even if it's contrary to what you're saying, I don't think if would matter or change your mind.
Please know, that I say this with all sincerity in looking for the truth.
      Hope you write back,

So, I wonder who got that $1,000.00. As a member of the Church of Christ, I've had to debate this so many times, as well as having to debate the Baptism for remission of sins, amongst other things. One thing I had to learn the hard way is that you must study or people will try to trip you up and confuse you. You don't have to know the bible word for word, but know something and you're not required to answer a person right off, sometimes you have to be honest and say, "Look, I don't have the answer, but let me look it up and get back with you".

Just learn who your father is and tell the rest to go to hell for they can not be saved or filled with the Holy Spirit, there is no salvation and no repentance is required as well as believing, Jesus Christ died and went to hell as one unrighteous gentile Jew and he is not coming back any time soonThe Lord said in Matthew 5 to those of Adam that you are born the sons of God and God is your father to all of the rest he said in chapter 12 for you are of your father the Devil but he said it like this you are serpent and children of the Serpent.Learn about the wife that the Lord divorced in the Old Testament, How he came to the children of the divorced wife asking for the bill of divorced wife in Isaiah 54 he said Oh barren wife you have more children than the married wife, he never once talked of sin as something that need to be taken care of.The Lord and God was the redeemer of Israel and no gentile were included ant any time for they had been assigned to hell out of the second creation the one before Adam was made and created, Learn to read the book and stop listening to fools and stupid ones

James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe and tremble.
When John 3:16 says that whosoever believes will have eternal life, it means to not only believe that Jesus is the Son of God who died on the cross and rose again but it also means to believe His Word as well. See John 12:48. And His Word tells us to be baptized in order to be saved. See Mark 16:16.

Of course me and Thief and countless others have taken Jesus up on his promise..
Acts 2:21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
    - you see the words may not be instructed.. but the way to is . Call upon him and the promise is that He will save him .
Now how can you say it isn't Bible when we have a perfect recorded example of it happening ..
Luke 23:42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
23:43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.
    - 1978 I prayed and asked Jesus to do what He promised.. and he did it .
    - the greatest question is not if he will. We know he will and does every day..
But the question that bothers me most is why would you not believe it .
If Peter said it shall come to pass that whosoever calls on him shall be saved . Then why haven't you called ?
Why haven't you let it come to pass .?

"IF" he had been baptized it would have been under the baptism of John the Baptist who was telling people the kingdom was "at hand" or as we would say, "very close" but not here yet. Who knows, the thief may have been one of those present at the sermon on the mount or maybe had been a witness to a miracle of Jesus. I'd like to meet the thief in heaven one day and ask him in person.

Please do not let this video fool you into thinking eternal life is dependent on anything but a true belief and trust in Jesus Christ. Johnny is correct that there is no "sinner's prayer" formula in the Bible. If you are just repeating the words of a preacher leading you through this type of prayer without truly placing your faith in Jesus, then in this sense the "sinner's prayer" is not what brings salvation. However, what the "sinner's prayer" represents is what is stated over and over in the Bible about salvation. Read the book of John and you will see it 50+ times very clearly - salvation is for all those who BELIEVE in Jesus Christ, the kind of belief that is a full trusting, heart piercing turn away from sin and to Jesus. Over and over the scriptures state that salvation is for ALL who BELIEVE. And it is through prayer, which Jesus modeled for us, that we communicate with God to express our belief and ask for forgiveness from our sin. It's not through a Church of Christ member or anyone else (that's why the temple curtain tore upon Jesus' death). The Bible says that WHOSOEVER believes in Him shall inherit eternal life. That is the qualification. Please do not let Church of Christ members fool you that there is a secret baptismal formula for salvation based on being baptized FOR the forgiveness of sins. It just makes no logical sense in light of the rest of scripture. Acts 13:38-39 shows us plainly how we are set free from sin, and it is not through baptism. Yes, all believers should absolutely be baptized as a symbol for the reality of what Christ did for us, but don't confuse the symbol with the reality. Baptism is closely tied with salvation in the Bible because that's what it represents, so of course it will be very closely related. In Acts 2:38 the word "for" is the Greek word EIS which CAN mean "in order to obtain" but it can also mean "on account of" or "in identification with" something that has occurred in the past. The same Greek word is used in Mathew 3:11 where John baptizes with water for (EIS) repentance. Was John baptizing people "in order to obtain" repentance? Obviously not, it was on account of the repentance those individuals had already come to. John didn't go throwing buckets of water on people so it could magically bring about their repentance. Same thing in Mat 12:41, 1 Cor 10:2, and others. So Acts 2:38 can mean be baptized because you have been forgiven, and is used in scripture in that way in other places specifically tied to baptism. For example, Kevin Durant won the NBA MVP for his excellent play during the year. Did he win it "in order to obtain" his play? Does the Bible say "in order to obtain" or does it say "for"? Which is the correct interpretation of "for"- read the book of John, which was written 50 years after the death of Jesus, so the writer understood the new covenant, and John states the reason for writing His gospel is so "ch20v31 that you may BELIEVE that Jesus is the Messiah and that by BELIEVING you may have life in His name." Read Romans 1-5 about faith and how circumcision was always about circumcision of the heart and faith, and not about the ritual. Our salvation is not about the symbolic act of baptism, it's about what the baptism symbolizes - our faith in Christ. Read the Bible and decide for yourself.

***** It is that changing of mind through faith/repentance that provides forgiveness of sins: Acts 13:38-39, Acts 10:43; Romans 3:25-26; Acts 26:18; Acts 15:8-9; Acts 3:19; Acts 5:31; Luke 5:20. Will you read these with an open mind? There is a mountain of evidence that we are saved by grace through faith (read John and Romans).

      @davidkliewer800 9 лет назад

***** Thanks for the response. I am aware of all of those scriptures. I just do not interpret them the same way as you do. One big reason is because baptism does not mean water baptism. It means to immerse. That is why John said that Jesus will baptize with the Holy Spirit and Fire (in fact Jesus did not water baptize anyone, and Paul only water baptized a few). This baptism John referred to is not water, it is immersing us with the Holy Spirit into the body of believers, or alternatively with a fire of judgement. Jesus said he would be baptized into suffering. Paul says that the Israelittes were baptized into Moses. So when I read Paul say we are baptized into Christ, I believe it means a spiritual baptism where we are given the Holy Spirit. We are immersed with the Holy Spirit. Scripture is consistent that baptism is identification with something. Coupling this with the fact that we know that the Holy Spirit is given upon belief (Eph 1, Gal 3, and Jesus made that promise in John 7 as well), and then reading the Gospel of John and all of Paul's writings, it is from that basis that I believe we are saved by grace through faith. We should all be water baptized as well, but it is not what saves us. You pointed to isolation, but that is exactly what I see in your response. For salvation, I build my foundation on books like John, which was written for the specific stated purpose of showing us how to have eternal life. Wouldn't John have mentioned baptism for the forgiveness of sins if that was the means of salvation??? But he did not, and in fact he states over and over and over that it is genuine faith that gives eternal life. That foundation provides a basis for interpreting other scripture. So for a verse like Acts 2:38, if you interpret it to mean that we are baptized "because of" forgiveness of sins (same Greek word Matthew uses to describe John's baptism "because of" repentance), then it is consistent with the foundation that is already established. That's just how I see it, I am always open to hearing where I could be wrong.

The baptism of the Holy Spirit was actually promised to the whole Judean countryside when John the Baptist made that prophecy, not just the apostles. This shows it was a promise for everyone, not just the two situations you mentioned, and there is nothing in scripture I am aware of that says it is no longer in effect. If anything, the Gentile baptism shows us an example of the Holy Spirit being received prior to baptism. I would still point you to Galatians 3 and Ephesians 1 as evidence that the Holy Spirit is received upon belief. As far as repentance, the definition you used is exactly right, it is a change of mind. It is turning from darkness to light. We know that true belief as described in scripture is turning from sin to God in genuine faith in Jesus. Repentance is like the flip side of the same coin as belief. Can't have one without the other. It is a description of part of the act of faith. Luke uses the terms interchangeably, and sometimes together as well, throughout Acts. My point about John was about the apostle John, how he wrote the entire book for the purpose of showing us about eternal life. I don't believe that God would say when we get to see Him - sorry, you missed the last part of the salvation formula which was in the book of Acts. What He would say, though, is I knew you, or I never knew you. And also just to be clear, I'm not saying that baptism is some optional thing. It should be our joy to be baptized. I'm just saying that is not what gives us salvation.

***** Acts 10:45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles. 46 For they heard them speaking in tongues[b] and praising God.
Then Peter said, 47 “Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.” 48 So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days.

***** I picked the word "for" just as you did. The definition of "for" I believe Peter meant here is the one that's consistent with clear scripture about salvation, and consistent with the way John the Baptist uses it in Matthew 3:11 “I baptize you with water for repentance." John was not baptizing unrepentant sinners so that they could obtain repentance; he was baptizing those who were already repentant. The word can go either way in Acts 2:38 - I just support the definition that is consistent with clear passages on salvation.

The literal definition of the term " saved " is " deliverance ". Deliverance from what? Acts 16:30
And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
Here, we find the jailor crying out for deliverance. He wasn't crying out to be saved " eternally ". He was crying out for help, in that if any of the prisoners had escaped, then he and his household would have been persecuted, according to the laws of the land, at that time.
According to Revelation 5:9 and 7:9, we find that God has a people in every tongue, or " language ". Considering that there are 6,500 spoken languages, within the world, today, there has Never been a moment in history when either the written word or the preached word have been available in every tongue or " language ". This being a scriptural example, there is a large number of people who will never even be able to " hear " the gospel, let alone, be Baptized. Scripturally speaking, Baptism is the " answer of a good conscience toward God ". ( not for the purpose of obtaining eternal salvation )

Like many "Christians" today, Satan believes Jesus died on the cross, but not for HIS sins. He believes Jesus has risen, but not for HIS eternal life.
Satan believes the event of the cross but never put his trust in Christ's finished work for salvation.
Salvation is not: Believing there is a God. (Satan believes that)
Salvation is not: Believing Christ was the Messiah. (Satan believes that)
Salvation is not even... Believing Christ died, was buried and rose the third day. (Satan believes that also)
Salvation is: Believing Christ died for YOUR EVERY SIN and trusting that He rose to give you eternal life IN HIM!
Something Satan and most Christians want no part of because of their PRIDE!
If denominationalists truly believed Christ forgave their sins, they wouldn't spend so much time trying to GET them forgiven.
One tells you to pray for forgiveness.
One tells you to confess for forgiveness.
One tells you to believe for forgiveness.
One tells you to repent for forgiveness.
One tells you to be baptized for forgiveness.
And keep in mind, all of these folk with a straight face will tell you Christ DIED for your sins. Welcome to Nutsville!!! I think Dorothy got lost on the yellow brick road.
Today I unapologetically proclaim that there is only one way to be saved, and it has nothing to do with getting your sins forgiven. Salvations through FAITH. (Ephesians 2:8-9) Without faith it is impossible to please God.
Salvation comes to those who are ready to give up on THEIR performance and rest their faith in JESUS' performance.
The path to salvation is narrow. SO narrow that nothing you do will fit.
Satan will never be saved for the same reason he was kicked out of heaven. P-R-I-D-E. (Isaiah 14:12-14)
Read carefully and count how many times he says "I".
How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
    Satan is obviously a Narcissist!
Like a vain person in front of the mirror, five times in only three verses he boasts of himself. Pride keeps Satan from being saved as it does most of the world. They have fallen victim to SELFIANITY and are incapable of letting go and letting God. Incapable of taking their filthy hands off their salvation and allowing God to save them by HIS finished work!
If you say --- "I said a prayer for forgiveness." "I confessed for forgiveness." "I believed for forgiveness." "I repented for forgiveness." "I was baptized for forgiveness."
Then sadly you have fallen for the five I's just like Satan.
Salvation is not getting your sins forgiven, it's believing they already ARE!
To be saved, you must first get "I" out of the way.
You only get two educations, the one you're given and the one you give yourself!

    Romans ch 10 vs 9-10
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thins heart that God hath raised him from the dead thou shalt be saved.
For with a heart a man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. KJV
Im so sick of hearing these pastors talk about the sinners prayer like they have a formula or somthing. There is definitely a confession made when one believes it called REPENTING. IS repenting in the bible? Is confessing in the bible? Yes it is! There is no formula. They talk and talk with no answers! I quess laying one ones face and saying nothing and doing nothing is how to be saved. There are quite a few things today that arnt in the Bible that is a sin like porn write buy since the bible say to be sexually pure we can conclude it is a SIN.
If God lead a man in prayer ro his salvation what is it to you? Are you his judge? Find somthing to do that profitable for God like, teaching the gospel to the lost.

Yeah you pretty much know the bible well enough to know that noone can prove the Sinners prayer exist. I don't believe a lot the bible says because in some places it says that God is a killer who indiscriminatly kills anyone men women children that gets in his way. Most of christiandom teaches that a sacrifice must be made for sin in this case Christ. See any similarities to any of the paganistic religions.Noone can win a debate with anyone over anything because both sides go away thnkn they won

When you make the claim god is real you must back that claim up with evidence. Other wise it's not true. If you have no evidence to back a claim up it's not true. Whether you're in the church of Christ or any other church, you all believe in a magic sky daddy, where is your evidence?

People need to understand that we are saved by what the New Testament teaches by the great commission from Jesus and what His apostles taught.

If you are talking about Paul for he was a gentile Jew that hated and rejected God for he was liar like his father for the things he said are all lies and go and check him out He had 21 different gospels and he said that God was going to judge the world by his gospel and he had the true gospel that the Lord and God of Israel came to redeem the divorced wife and her children and to pardon them of their transgressions.Jesus Christ is a gentile Jew and see the book of John for 66 times the evil and wicked gentile Jews are mentioned and no other people are include in the myth for the false Jew's report in chapter one of the book of John, Jesus Christ was of his father in chapter 8 for as a gentile Jew he was talking to the other gentile Jews and he said if we correct the relationship saying that we gentile Jews are of our father the Devil and we do the will of him in the lust of us and he was a liar in the beginning and the father of lies, so to was Jesus Christ for he said he could save that which God had rejected, See John 3:16 for his salvation was only for those perishing, You see the seed of Adam has never been of those perishing for their father is God in heaven and he was to be called Our Father which art in heaven, the gentiles Jews in chapter three of Matthew are the children of the Serpent and their claim as being of their father Abraham was denied and then the axe was laid to the tree and then cast into the fire no conversion was ever offered.Jesus Christ was a Jewish myth in the making of HOAX for all to be fooled.

Read the Bible. We are saved by water baptism. Acts 2:38 and Luke 16:16 say otherwise
