This was a great band. They had terrific elements, great lead singer, beautiful arrangements and amazing background vocals. Very easy to like and listen to.
I was not familiar with Ambrosia when I was riding in a van with friends and I heard How much I feel. It caught me by surprise. I was absolutely speechless. Still to this day one of my favorite songs
Great band . Worship their 1st album and "Somewhere I never Travelled". It would be great if David Pack rejoined the other original 3 members and toured doing their old stuff.
So I read that David Pack needed a break from touring to be with his young family and the band was not in agreement. David took the time to be with his family and a member of the band decided to register & trade mark the band’s name “Ambrosia” and David was cut out. They were playing with the advertising of David being with the band when he took that break and when David found out about it and asked for his share of the cut the band said NO so he took them to court and they settled with David for an undisclosed amount of money. David really should have trade marked the name from the beginning which would have prevented the turn of events from happening. I have always loved the band along with David’s amazing voice, writing & producing abilities. You can’t deny that they were great and the harmonies were stellar. They all came together at the right time to create great prog rock and pop rock music.
Their first two albums are jaw-dropping amazing. Listen on the best sound system or great earphones. After those two, the other albums were more commercial and fine but not as magical. The original line-up has it all. Both albums in my all time top 25 lps. Heavenly background singing , super pro musicians, each one. Great lyrics, unique wonderful songs. Very few rock bands of this caliber. Hold on ... these are very special albums!
Yep, that first album was so good but when Somewhere I've Never Traveled came out I was amazed, one of my top 10 albums of all time, it's like an Alan Parsons album.
If you ever want to see the difference between pop music today, and 70s pop music, "Dancing By Myself" is like, a _perfect_ example, didn't get any airplay, and yet, it's one of the most well crafted tunes on Life Beyond L.A. imo, or at least, since music's a pretty subjective experience, I'll just say, it's _my_ personal favorite. Bought that _first_ album in 1975, and I'm still not sick of it, always loved this band...
Michael McDonald was never in Ambrosia. He sat in with them for a couple of charity benefits and he recorded on Packs solo albums. I'm sure that if he did join them things would have turned out very differently.
Love Ambrosia, saw them live finally last year. It’s a shame some people only know them for ballads and yacht rock. One of my favorite albums is Road Island, and the similarities to Pink Floyd The Wall: 1. Recorded at same studio, both produced by James Guthrie, artwork style very similar with Ralph Steadman for Ambrosia and Gerald Scarfe for Floyd, both a bit similar with Pink and then the singular musician on the cover of Ambrosia on the road…and lastly the opening song on both are similar….told you I liked the album😀
Love Ambrosia and I learned a couple of new things with this video. Thanks! A couple of ideas for future "What Happened To..." videos: Jellyfish. They only had two albums, but the band spawned several great solo projects and other bands. Another great band that would be perfect for this would be City Boy.
When Ambrosia debuted their song Biggest Part of Me on the Merv Griffin show in 1980 David Pack mentioned that Marvin Gaye was one of his biggest influences and I can see why. David’s voice is truly a gift from the angels
@@ninja132108 we were pleasantly surprised at how good it was! They put it together quite well with Al Stewart doing his three hits first and then mixing it up as the show went on. Old photos and videos on the screen behind. Lots of older people so nobody stood in front of you.. Definitely a show I would go see again! Apparently Gary Wright was with them for some shows before he passed, that would have been a great addition!
I remember chatting with a member of ambrosia in a chat, many years ago. I think it was joe, because I live in Spain and I was in León city, and he told me that he had family and descendants here.
I agree that David was a major part of the group, but 3 of the members are still touring as Ambrosia. 3/4 of the band with others (which the "original" Ambrosia also did). David is still making some great music in the "Christian" world (though highly accessible to the non-believers as well). I think you just have to accept that one member has left the group. They are both great at what they do. It's not like say someone like YES which has NO original members!
I have a request as to where are they now is “Sniff N the Tears”! They sang Driver’s Seat in 1978. You do a great job tracking these bands down so I hope you can find stuff on them. They come from England.😊
@@michaelpacker561 They are still around? Sorry. Don’t know where you get your info but you’re wrong and the band formed in England since most all were born there! Loz Netto I do know has his own band and studio in London as does the lead singer. That is ALL I know for facts but would like to know what happened to the rest of the band and when and why did they stop playing?
I think to the casual fan, yes. But their sound evolved over the years from progressive to pop rock to yacht rock to hard rock. They just get labeled as yacht rock because their biggest hits were the softer songs. It's kind of like Player. They get pegged as yacht rock because of Baby Come Back, but if you listen to their albums, their music was actually a lot harder. Both bands super talented and versatile. They both should have gotten a lot more credit than they did ❤❤❤
Not sure the presenter was meant to be audio based here. The voice and pronunciation is annoying. Sticks out. Couldn’t you hire a pro the least you could do?
No matter what or whose opinions, Ambrosia's original recorded music is still a strong seller today according to Amazon music sales and other music download and streaming sells. Old music has been outselling new music for the past decade according numbers from the music industry.
This was a great band. They had terrific elements, great lead singer, beautiful arrangements and amazing background vocals. Very easy to like and listen to.
Couldn't agree more!
Ambrosia without David Pack is like Journey without Steve Perry. Both voices are one of a kind and irreplaceable.
I actually prefer Journey's first 3 albums before Steve Perry.
Topaz!
Totally agree
Journey didn't need perry😂

The current group singing under the name Ambrosia simply aren't getting it done. David Pack is Ambrosia period!!!
Yeah but how's his voice holding up these days? Seeing the "oldies" can be disappointing @@BonnieMoore-c5r
I was lucky enough to catch them after a concert and bought them a round at the bar. Really cool guys and classy gentlemen.
They were one of the best bands of the seventies
Gawd I love this band. The album cuts were so deep and beautiful. Moma Frog still blows me away.

Nothing can touch that original line up and the incredible music created in their early years ❤

Michael McDonald is one of David Pack’s best friend. Michael has sung on David’s solo music and so has James Ingram.
Great musicians; I recently found out that they played on the Alan Parsons Project album.
had NO idea! so happy this mini doc found me. Of course always liked the radio singles, would love to catch a show, DON'T STOP

I have appreciated Road Island for the exact same reasons!
New information for me about some of the actual musicians in the Alan Parsons Project series. Thanks!
Man I loved this band
David Pack 💖
I loved and STILL LOVE THE FURST TWO ALBUMS!! They’re classics!, BUT… after this all, including their commercial hits are SLEEPERS!
exactly ,groundbreaking stuff for its time
Their second album was flawless.
Beautiful songs brings back such good memories!

The first album is a killer!! Never that d😢again!! Good job
I bet Herb Albert kicked himself for passing on Ambrosia. 😬
Yeah, big mistake!
Going to see them in March. Can’t wait ❤
Going to see them this coming Friday 😊
Joe Puerta is a big bass player influence on me
The live version of life beyond La is amazing.
Going to see them at Hard Rock this Friday 😊
How was it

Ambrosia is not a jello salad, they sing a mellow ballad
Thanks for that, very informative, well done.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Saw them open for ELO 1984 Houston Tx
I love "Bart" Bacharach!
D'oh!!😂
Elliott Laurie of Looking Glass "Brandy" fame also sings with Yacht Rock group

Seen them in lubbock Texas January 2023

This is total bullshit. The band is still together and is currently touring! I know, I booked them twice recently.
Lead singer David Pack is not in the group. He performed all of their hit songs. Group is not the same.

Would they be considered yacht rock?
Yes, most assuredly. They're regularly featured on that dedicated Sirius/XM satellite radio.

Fred Beato? Any relation to Rick (Beato)?
Joe also helped the amazing but now disbanded 'King Washington'.

The Raspberries

Made rice out off them

Hate this stupid narration
I sped it up. Too slow.
How fitting that the dreck of Ambrosia wound up in the godawful Rick Beato band.
lolz!

What? You need better drugs.
Fred not Rick. I don't think they are related. Completely different people.
Elevator music😝

The album was way ahead of its time alternative rock, and Prog rock
