All I see is people complaining about the hygiene. I guess this is why we (South East Asian peeps who have loads of street vendors like these) have much stronger stomachs. one of my friends saw me eating mapo tofu one day and he got so shocked and said "omg those things will give you diarrhea" I just looked at him.. confused. like "dude, I eat this almost everyday, my stomach feels fine"
Nah, it's strictly bull. We are fed (no pun intended) a lot of nonsense about germs and what "makes you sick", especially when you go a travelling. Water is definitely a real risk, as it often is to the locals, but if the place is busy then it's probably more hygienic than a restaurant where they don't have the customer looking over their shoulder! I'd get lunch at a street vendor over a restaurant any day. You can see exactly how the food is made, it's cheap and the food will be fresh that morning. Obviously you have to be sensible but street food has never done me wrong (except for when it's too spicy!!).
I have always had a question about cooking hygiene that this video reminded me of(this is universal, nothing to do with Thai). How is it ok to touch raw meat with the same spatula you serve the meat with when its cooked? This guy keeps them basically on the pan so I imagine they are well over 100 degrees, but normally in America you flip raw chicken with the same tongs you use to take it off the grill and there is no cross contamination. I don't get it, but I'm probably being dense, like Bill Burr not understanding how something as heavy and metal as a cruise ship can float, especially when you put a pool in it.
I spent 4 months in Cambodia and Thaïland,i've eaten in street food like that all over the place and i never had any stomachache or dirrhea. The only time i get sick was because of the bus AC lol
Khaitoon Katy Kendall you are completely right, we europeans eat so much "classy" and tasteless food that passed hundreds of health inspections that it gets to you lack of everything. Therefore, when we eat like that we have the runs: diarrhea happens.
In 1990, I went to Thailand... first time out of the US. Beautiful country, beautiful people, and the most astounding street food... at the time a plate of pad thai like the one in this video cost ~$0.25US, and it was the best food I had ever eaten. I still travel a lot, but if I tried to make a list of the best places I've eaten in the world, a street vendor on some random road in Thailand would easily be in the top 5.
mixolydian mode and fun fact, everything in Thai land is super cheap! One pad Thai like that would cost less than one dollar American where as a Golden Arches cheese burger would cost about one dollar plus tax depending on where you live.
once i ordered a pad thai in a thai restaurant in my country and it was my first time trying it MAAAN IT WAS SO GOOOD. I finished it with every bits of satisfaction and appreciation. everyone was looking at me the whole time even the waiter then i eventually found out that my order was for 3-4 persons. i didnt even know my stomach could hold that capacity (loljk i already know it can) pad thais are the best ily thai people thai food or whatever
this guy looks like a professional. his stall is clean and neat he keeps things in clean containers and obviously has a lot of appreciative customers if he's able to claim a regular spot as the video description suggests. tbh i find street vendor food to be some of the best in the world because it's not mass produced, the vendors all have their own recipe combinations so you get unique flavours from vendor to vendor and when you ask them how long have you been doing this they all say for years. if hygiene was such an issue i'm sure they would be run out of town or have locals telling tourists not to trust this vendor or that.
Absolutely SUPERB! Well prepared in a very clean environment, raw protein properly chilled, all towards making a delicious and appetizing dish. The purchaser went a little crazy with the chopped peanuts and the sugar though. Excellent none the less!
+Selim YOU could be right about it being coconut powder. It looked like a very tasty, well done dish none the less. I think that I will give it a try in my own kitchen at home. Cheers!
Selim It's peanuts powder. Who eats Pad Thai with coconut powder? Pad Thai is good with peanuts but It's ok if you wouldn't like to put it in. Even some Thai people don't like putting peanuts in their Pad Thai too.
olskoolnewpaint In MY COUNTRY they refer to me as White or Caucasian because that cartoon picture that I use for posting my comments is NOT me. It is merely a caricature that I have chosen to use as a symbol. And I do still love Pad Thai. I even make it in my own kitchen at home.
Very nicely done. Followed the steps and I got a very delicious Pad Thai dish this weekend. Thank you Flashmavi, and special thanks to the unknow street food vendor!
I am very Nigerian and the street food there are the best, better than all those high priced restaurants, the street food vendors always have fresh stuff since they always sell out so fast and have to restock regularly while the high end branded restaurants would always stock on canned and refrigerated food stuff. Street food is usually fun.
+Anuoluwapo Ajayi i know plenty of ppl who make food on street and sometimes they use products that should be kept in the fridge, but they don't have any, so it just stands for 1-2 days in normal temp. Usually the tempo is just right, but if not - they are not going to waste that... You just eat something they wouldn't make for themselfs. Keep that in mind.

+Terri Medlock It should be :) Pad thai is made from egg noodles if I'm not mistaken. Rice noodles > Egg noodles (fatwise). It shouldn't be a problem though as long as you walk once in a while :) I'm 6'3" and weigh 160lbs and I eat and drink whatever I want but also take a 1h walk every day :) (not on vacations though hehe ;) )
I lived there 3 years and ate street food all the time. There's never a problem because of the cooking style. Everyone buys street food in Bangkok, everyone eats all day at any time. There's a massive turnover so all ingredients are fresh. It's the most delicious food anywhere.

Omg...want. When I was a kid we lived in Malaysia and our housekeeper would get her lunch from a man with his cart that came up our street, she used to let me have some and that is where my love of hot food began. pad thai is my favourite.
The best part of all is the out-of-pocket cost for guys that run these. The whole set-up could probably be paid for within a month or two and produce is much cheaper there than in other places. Kudos to these people.

I know that my comment is not related to yours, but i found it really interesting to know. It's nice to get some informations about people who live around the world :)
missmya3972 ah I see.. I'm in Malaysia and bean sprouts are everywhere because it's in most dishes but you could try to grow them really. They grow real fast and are easy to grow as well :)
That looks really delicious... i srsly have no idea whats half of the foods and seasonings they put in it, but it stills looks beautiful and i want to taste! Good job
Better coated with sugar than salt right? Lol. I do know thai people who add more sugar to their pad thai. Thai dishes are usually sweet but it really depends on the person preferences. Pad Thai is my number dish for thai cookings. That's why I know a little about it. :)
Man, this is one of the thousands of reasons why I totally wish I had grown up in either Japan or Thailand. Fricken lunch during school on a street corner! Amazing views of almost everything... Anime... Oh my beautiful anime... How I wish you were mine, so.
James Long what's so hard about washing the banana leaves thoroughly with cold water, steaming them killing all germs and then using them to serve food on?
James Long i am being realistic, also it depends where he gets the banana leaves, he could always just pay some kids to clean the leaves for him in exchange for a few baht. it's risky cause they may screw up and not do it all the way. but if they do it correctly he'll ask them to do it again tomorrow. it saves him money from buying the styrofoam containers, he uses some of that to pay the kids. that in turn will help him make a little more money. just cause some don't do things like that properly doesn't mean all of them don't. am i wrong? i love street food, which is why i can say this. it depends on the vendor.
James Long but part of why serving his pad thai in banana leaf is so good is cause the leaf itself will instill some of it's flavor into the noodles. the authority might let him if he's close enough to get them fresh on a daily basis. like if he's within 2 miles from getting his banana leaves i think they'd let him do it.
listen me americans. since Southeast asian foods are more spicy and include exotic spices such turmeric, etc thats why the cooking oil, the pan they use look rusty and unhygiene. we dont spice lazily with only salt sugar unlike u all haha
You must realize that not all Americans are fully American, meaning that there are immigrants who still use many traditional spices. Check your privilege before posting these comments.
+Alanviation You really need to calm down, don't sound so aggressive. I am also Thai and it reflects badly on Thailand. Just explain, you don't have to have a go. But yes, the stains you see on the pan are left from difference sauces and spice, not that it is unclean. Although I do admit there are some unhygienic street foods in thailand which everyone tries to avoid. As for this one, I personally think it was relatively clean.
Everyone on this post needs take a step back. I mean every food from different countries have their own uniqueness to it and many find it appealing. I don't agree with Original poster (op) that American cookings are bland. I mean you can't really compare, that's like saying an orange is better tasting than an apple, just because op doesn't like it doesn't make it bad. And whether it is healthy or not is really not the issue, there are many foods in thailand that are unhealthy. Thing is, American, Indian, Italian, Thai, every cuisine have gone through the process of local selection, the great tasting ones stay for others to taste and the bad tasting ones fade away, in other words they exist because people like them. I like every cuisine, and even if i don't who I am to say it is horrible when it is obviously not. I apologise for my fellow Thais for being disrespectful. *To Thais:* I understand you are trying to protect our culture but being hostile back isn't going to help. You don't like it when someone said they find some of our food unhygienic or disgusting, what makes you think it is a good idea to behave the same way. Some people simply don't understand why the pan was dirty, so simply explain to them. Thais are naturally very friendly to everyone, so lets keep it that way.
zoomzoombabe, but he didn’t even eat start eating it. Or maybe he’s familiar with the tastes of that spot. Would make sense then. Still a lot of sugar.
It’s super normal for Thai people to add sugar to their food. Sugar is a table condiment the same as like salt and pepper for us there. They also have vinegar and chili’s as well. In Thailand the food is made the same, same spice level no substations so you are supposed to alter the dish at the table for your taste with the condiment tray. Pad Thai is like the most basic noodle dish there so everyone has their own way they like to eat it.
Hmmm, one thing to consider is that he used the same tongs to firstly pick up raw chicken (I think it's chicken anyway...) and then everything else. Cross contamination stir-fry anyone?
The issue is that the tongs also touched other raw ingredients that are not cooked and also sitting in the hot Thailand climate, not refrigerated and is how you get food poisoning. It's very basic food handling safety and I can't believe you don't know that. Chicken is one of the main culprits of food poisoning as well.
meagainok Naturally I know about salmonella but it's contained when in a cooler, which the ingredients are. Again, all the things he picked up with the tongs are cooked through. By your logic you shouldn't eat chicken because that causes food poisoning, right?
+meagainok So you make a big deal out of the fact that there's bacteria over the tofu? That inherently doesn't matter because the tofu is the same temp as the chicken, being refrigerated in the cooler. All those ingredients GET COOKED THROUGH so the bacteria get killed.
I love it, I make it at home but in a different way but still our favorite meal, and by the way the nuts that are added in the end give it a special crunchy taste, yummy
pad thai off the street is a joy, please even if your not on a budget and back packing it, skip your fancy meal back at the hotel and grab one of these, you wont look back
Well Gosh, I didn't mean any disrespect or to press people's buttons. I just lamented to see the trademarks of the corporate West, i.e., plastics - petroleium products, take the place of nature ... being a farmer I eat lots of things right out of the garden dirt, just today blueberries and my friends eat without regard for insects and germs. Rules and regulations have taken away our natural lifestyle. When I lived in Hawaii I often cooked in banana leaves and it was so wonderful and natural. I have no problem with the vendor, I was citing the presence of the plastic after the magnificence of the beautiful food. But thanx now I feel for anyone strapped by regulations that constrict us from our connection to Nature.
I've been making a lot of pad thai lately after watching this video. It's so easy to make and delicious. I was wondering, is it more beneficial to make your own sauce as opposed to buying it at the store? This guys sauce looks so much more red and delicious than the sauce I buy.
I'd say make your own. That way you get it to taste to your liking. Make enough and put in jar, store it in fridge, then use it whenever you feel like making a dish. I like adding a little peanut butter to my sauce (at your own risk :=).
I'm looking for asian recipes, which are made with ingredients easy to find in Germany and which can be cooked with a pan instead of a wok. I have soy sauce of good quality, garlic, ginger and all kinds of spices. Coconut milk is not too expensive here, but all kinds of vegetables and special sauces are hard to find and very expensive. You can easily get leeks, mushrooms, tomatoes, all kinds of meat, spinach, nuts ( very expensive ), avocado, aubergines and peppers ( though a bit more expensive ), onions and potatoes ( very cheap ) and pasta and rice ( cheap aswell ). But getting rice noodles is harder and more expensive again. Any suggestions from people of asian descent or with expertise in asian cooking would be much appreciated.
oh yeah! that's very, very bad! America is the greatest country in the world because we serve clean, microwave, processed food to our kids and they are absolutely non-toxic at all! I would never ever let my kid eat these fresh food! KFC is way cleaner!
How does that compare to buying one extra pair of tongs for the vegetables and 1 seperate for the meat? If it was done like that, there would be no sanitary concerns.
Have you ever tried Thai food? It is wonderful! The tablespoon of stuff is sugar and it's one of the best Thai dishes, so don't knock it until you try it. Thank for the video.
I'm going to let you in on a little secret. I have been living in Thailand for 6 years now; not westernised tourist hotspot Thailand, but in a normal country town about 60kms from Bangkok. I very rarely see other westerners here. Occasionally I go to the local markets and see vendors making pad thai just like this, and selling it to Thai people. Personally, it is not to my taste, but believe me when I say that it isn't only modified for westerners, as many Thais eat pad thai just like this.
the yellow is tofu, its made from soyabeans.the red sauce is so called pad thai sauce and also in many toko's available in a pot.whats in it i wonder also.
What were those yellowish cubes he threw in in the beginning? Also, did he through in some grass blades in there?! Haha. Was it lemon grass? Crazy to think that costs almost nothing. It looks so goood!
Now that looks easy enough to make at home - just need to get all the ingredients he's using. From what I can see, he's using eggs, tofu, thin slices of some kind of meat, carrot (?), bean sprouts, chili paste, possibly thin soy sauce. Have I missed anything or got something wrong ? Any help will be much appreciated. And of course pad Thai noodles and spring onions.
SG kpopfan It’s sugar :) they don’t really use salt at all. You can use sugar to reduce the sharpness, or to sweeten the menu :) It gives the food a caramel flavor.. which is not rare in thai food
Muay Thai Santai in Chiang Mai. Checked out at lots of gyms and I liked that one most.

+Henrik Martinez That's sugar. And that was insane amount. By the way, I'm Thai.
I love Pad Thai,
Thai food is best in the world. :)
They really play around with that food - always looks a bit cold to me - but what do I know Ive never even tried this stuff - fascinating to watch -thank you Flash! great video
o -
I know that my comment is not related to yours, but i found it really interesting to know. It's nice to get some informations about people who live around the world :)
The end totally ruined it for me!i dont know if thats salt or sugar!
Sugar
What kind of red sauce was he using?because I would love to know.
It's a mix of Sriracha, fish sauce and some other stuff if I'm not wrong.
It's a tamarind sauce.. I dont know what else is in there but its awesome.
missmya3972 I just made it yesterday and yep it's tamarind. It was awesome :D
I love pad thai!! I would make it today but where I live it's hard to find fresh bean sprouts : /
missmya3972 ah I see.. I'm in Malaysia and bean sprouts are everywhere because it's in most dishes but you could try to grow them really. They grow real fast and are easy to grow as well :)
Why did he put two full scoops of dried ear wax onto it at the end?
It's peanuts --"
Omg looks sooo good and authentic! When I go to Thailand I want to find this guy so I can try his pad Thai!
That looks really delicious... i srsly have no idea whats half of the foods and seasonings they put in it, but it stills looks beautiful and i want to taste! Good job
what was put on top? peanuts? sugar?
It was crushed peanuts and sugar.
My Lo Ive never gotten pad thai with sugar coated like that. is that common in thailand
A Pirrone
I have no clue since I'm not from Thailand. So I cannot say. :)
oh you answered it quite confidently thats why.
Better coated with sugar than salt right? Lol. I do know thai people who add more sugar to their pad thai. Thai dishes are usually sweet but it really depends on the person preferences. Pad Thai is my number dish for thai cookings. That's why I know a little about it. :)
now thats some good looking pad thai right there

Talented chief. Very enjoyable to watch! I bet it smells and tastes as good as it looks
Man, this is one of the thousands of reasons why I totally wish I had grown up in either Japan or Thailand. Fricken lunch during school on a street corner! Amazing views of almost everything... Anime... Oh my beautiful anime... How I wish you were mine, so.
all pad thai dishes i've had in NY suck. i wish i could make it like they do in thailand.
Go to Thai Market, 107th and Amsterdam!
all that cooking and tasteful choice of ingredients just to be ruined at the end by 2 tablespoons of sugar wtf...
+69op2gg1005ify0m Thats quite a normal amount of sugar for a pad thai lol
+69op2gg1005ify0m sweet and spicy
+69op2gg1005ify0m I think you'll find that's crushed peanuts not sugar!
+utubecomment21 finish watching the video...white stuff at the end is defo sugar
69op2gg1005ify0m the white stuff maybe, but the two spoons of brown stuff is more than likely nuts of some sort.
what are those yellow squares? Craaaap...... now I am hungry !
Tofu u dumbass
They look like squash.
+DEE ZEE you look like tofu
The red sauce is a Pad Thai sauce made of tamarind sauce, palm sugar and fish sauce !
Love that beautiful color. Bet it tastes even better!
It's in that damn sauce.... we need to spy on this guy when he makes it
SEND NSA UP IN HERE
It’s usually just a mixture of tamarind, palm sugar, fish sauce & chili sauce/flakes
@@sweetflakes can you use tom yum paste instead?
@@oattahusenadryy479 no way that is totally different.
@@sweetflakes but it contains fish sause, sugar and chilly. Only tamarind is gone but people say that you can use lemon juice instead
It was beautiful until the styrofoam box showed up. Better rolled up in a banana leaf packet! All those yummy crispy vegies ... yum.
James Long what's so hard about washing the banana leaves thoroughly with cold water, steaming them killing all germs and then using them to serve food on?
James Long i am being realistic, also it depends where he gets the banana leaves,
he could always just pay some kids to clean the leaves for him in exchange for a few baht. it's risky cause they may screw up and not do it all the way. but if they do it correctly he'll ask them to do it again tomorrow. it saves him money from buying the styrofoam containers, he uses some of that to pay the kids. that in turn will help him make a little more money. just cause some don't do things like that properly doesn't mean all of them don't. am i wrong? i love street food, which is why i can say this. it depends on the vendor.
***** i like your think so much and like your video
listen me americans.
since Southeast asian foods are more spicy and include exotic spices such turmeric, etc
thats why the cooking oil, the pan they use look rusty and unhygiene.
we dont spice lazily with only salt sugar unlike u all haha
+Alanviation haha my opinion of Thailand went down good job trying to make yourself look cool by talking crap
You must realize that not all Americans are fully American, meaning that there are immigrants who still use many traditional spices. Check your privilege before posting these comments.
American foods really sucks, lots of unhealthy ingredients.
Thais are naturally very friendly to everyone, so lets keep it that way.
regarding the hygiene issue, people forget, it gets cooked with intense heat....that should kill any germ/bacteria that could harm you.
The crushed powdery is crushed peanuts and the white kind is sugar.
That's a whole alot of sugar added into the Pad Thai at the end. Lol
Maybe the customer found it too spicy?
zoomzoombabe, but he didn’t even eat start eating it. Or maybe he’s familiar with the tastes of that spot. Would make sense then.
Still a lot of sugar.
Looked great till he ruined it with about half a pound of sugar and peanuts. What the hell lol.
lol yea. Maybe its not sugar but salt :D
Don't talk too much doesn't mean you're stupid
Let me guess ... you're black?
girlgreenivy no it's sugar and peanuts lol.
its not coconut powder for sure.
i've tried pad thai when i lived in langkawi .. ohhh trust me, the most delicious thing ever! so spicy .. 👍🏻💋
Come to eat in Thailand.
I eat street food in Mexico for 8yrs, and never had a problem, but Thai street food is some of the best in the world
Bangkok Is beautiful. Lived there for 5 years, I loved it!!
This video should be named: "How to ruin the best pad thai in Thailand".
Right? The sugar.
Stop the Philosophical Zombies i think he likes it sweet hahaha
The red dye #2?
Do you know the amount of sugar they put in Chinese takeaways? Besides it's cocanut powder. And that red dye is chilli..
Well the things he picked up are cooked through so I don't see the issue?
Whatevs. You will never get it. End of conversation.
Wow, looks yummy!!
I love it, I make it at home but in a different way but still our favorite meal, and by the way the nuts that are added in the end give it a special crunchy taste, yummy
pad thai off the street is a joy, please even if your not on a budget and back packing it, skip your fancy meal back at the hotel and grab one of these, you wont look back
It's verygood.I lik it
Well Gosh, I didn't mean any disrespect or to press people's buttons.
James Long no offense taken, no problem ... I understand all that you are saying and sad that the world has become so regulated. Namaste.
BarbaraL Lowell
I really want to eat!
PAD THAİ PAD THAİ YUMMY YUMMY İ LİKE İT GİVE ME PAD THAİ İ AM HUNGRY WTF İS THAT GOİNG ON!
completely rekt it at the end
The only thing that makes me uneasy with this is him grabbing all the raw + prepared food with the same tongs... nope nope nope
oh yeah! that's very, very bad!
However, it's tasty
zakizdaman how does that compare to buying one extra pair of...god i wonder why people call us stupid
you are embarrassing yourself
Just awful....(the customer) stealing so much sugar and peanuts... just wrong....
.....it's there for you to add to your food...whut
That's really the normal amount for most thai people.
it's free guys
***** Free doesn't mean being a pig . A condiment is meant to be used sparingly....
it's fine man. it's realy fine. i am thai and i know he Charge for condiment already in this price.
(sorry for my bad english -*-)
He ruined it at the end seriously that sugar n sht why man why that's like saying to him ur food taste like sht let me fix it
Herb my mouth literally flew open at the end.
Ewww, the big spoon full of sugar at the end. WHYYY!!!!!!!!!!!
So Schmall This is original recipe.and you tase it already? You should respect thai peple
Anyone else notice the cross contamination with the tongs? Raw chicken to vegetables?
Its all cooked
Awesome Street food!
it was an above average spoonful of sugar for sure, but adding sugar, crushed peanuts, chilli flakes & a squeeze of lime is the norm.
I'm from England... And our restaurants here and establishments are much much more unhygienic ... I think this looks delicious !!! Really delicious!
the yellow is tofu, its made from soyabeans.the red sauce is so called pad thai sauce and also in many toko's available in a pot.whats in it i wonder also.
The best demo i ever watch! thanks
This video make's me drooll! Pad thai is one of my fav .
Wow. The red sauce must have been pre mixed with all the spices?
Just amazing.. i dont have nothing to say. That is passion.
The white stuff - What did the customer put in the noodles? Looks so good!! and very clean!! Wish I was eating it!!
SG kpopfan
It’s sugar :) they don’t really use salt at all.
You can use sugar to reduce the sharpness, or to sweeten the menu :)
It gives the food a caramel flavor.. which is not rare in thai food
@@Soeyxytn Tks!!
