  • Lotus recently released the Emira. It has received glowing reviews. The Emira is an extremely attractive car. It competes well on paper with the Porsche Cayman S, A110 and Alpha Romeo 4C. However, I am slightly underwhelmed due to its powertrain. I also imagine that it will depreciate significantly. This video contains a thorough explanation of my thoughts about the Emira and whether it is worth considering.

    Yes you should buy one! I live an hours drive from the factory and have owned various lotus cars over the years. This is special and I’m sure all that will follow will be too. Paid my £2000 deposit this morning. Hethel yellow / black pack/black light weight wheels / alcantara. With the awesome AMG engine. Arrives June ish 2022 🇬🇧

      Congrats on the purchase! Keep us posted on your thoughts when it arrives.
      I think the AMG engine is the best option. Good choice

    It's 60 thousand pounds much less then I thought it would cost. It's a fantastic bargain

    You’re wrong about lotus depreciating. Supply is too low, they hold their value better than almost every other car. That may change if they make the claimed 4000-5000 per year.

    Fair point about EVs being faster in the future, and possible depreciation. But that V6 3.5L supercharged engine in a manual stick-shift transmission, with that exposed gear linkage, external styling and aero too?
    I think this might become a modern classic. I personally am thinking about this engine/transmission, it might depreciate a bit in the short term, but in 5-10 years when fully manual cars like this are rarer? who knows, there may be people after a car just like this. I'd probably sacrifice the [probably] faster accelerating amg dual clutch in favour of the 3.5L, although the launch control might be a game-changer. But being able to drop down gears and play around with 3 pedals is underrated IMO, especially when exiting corners and easing the power on.

    Interesting view, I think it's good to have opinions and your'e entitled to yours. I was actually considering buying a Huracan EVO, but when the Emira was announced and I figured I'd have the great looks (definitely looks like an exotic) and still a rare car at half or third the price after options. The older supercars do not appeal to me (that's before factoring in maintenance/reliability) and ironically they've all gone up in price an insane amount. What are your thoughts? :)

    If the performance is slightly worst than the cayman or 4C is not a big deal. Not gonna bother with that as lotus cars are usually great performer anyway. The looks alone is a must buy for me if I didn’t have the Boxster Spyder. In fact I’m still thinking of buying it and keep both. Sports car price with supercar looks. Awesome!

      Fair point: it's by far one of the most attractive cars out there!
      I'm most concerned about depreciation: if we think Lotus will have a resurgence , then that will be less an issue. But, lotus cars have seemingly always been difficult to sell.

    yes why didn't lotus just star with the 430 hp v6 give it a duel clutch option and 4 cylinder start with The AMG B139 engine 412 HP Duel Clutch and 6 speed for both. That's it. Ingredients for greater success. The car looks beautiful! exotic. mini Ferrari from the side. Have to have the performance sport package hey its a lotus.

    It certainly looks good and the base price is very reasonable. But it looks like a rebodied Evora. They spent a lot of money on a facility but did not fix their Achilles heel - the gearbox. That’s why the power is still circa 400 bhp and acceleration is mediocre. Why didn’t they move the engine further forward?

    If you are counting on people "fully adjusting to electric engines" thus not caring about engines that actually give you a visceral experience, you are wrong.

  • @BarryWMedinaMusic

    For real it’s massively underpowered and doesn’t have a transmission that for age we are in.
    I mean get a baby blue base Corvette C8 black top with side skirt, use these same wheels and it’s not a 4CL it’s a V8 with 500 hp for same price.
    This car is underpowered for the look.

    The lotus evora is 0 to 60 3.8 and 416 horsepower from lotus emira 0 to 60 4.5 and 400 horsepower that's the only downside it downgraded in torque and power but upgraded in future design

      First of all, that "under 4.5s" is 0-62, not 0-60. Secondly, that's the lowest powered version. Just wait until all the numbers come out before judging it.

    • @allensaunders449
      @allensaunders449 3 года назад

      @@brois841 0 to 62 it 60 what's the difference. None. The car is fast enough. Still excellent performance. I'm sure driving it will be a very nice experience. But the acceleration numbers won't blue anyone away

    • @brois841
      @brois841 3 года назад

      @@allensaunders449 it's probably a couple tenths difference. My point is, I think the higher spec'd Emira will come in right below 4 second 0-60 before mods.
      Just used a quick online calculator (which gave accurate results for the Evora GT @ 3.8s) and the Emira with 400hp/1400kg will be right around the same mark.

      They can't give it 416 hp right out of the gate, they have to release the 410 and 416 hp versions in later models to make it look like they are 'upping the game' with later model years...
