- Opened in December 1912, Luna Park was an instant success. Famous for the Scenic Railway, which is the oldest continually operating roller coaster in the world and the famous "Moon face" entry, the park is an Australian icon situated in the Melbourne suburb of St Kilda.

WOW. Really? 1912. That's cool. I have a photo of my (Light-Horseman) Great Great Uncle there in 1914 just before he left for the war.

In my 68 year I've been to Luna Park countless time I remember they use to have a board walk type thing along the beach front with all the carnival shows but then they got rid of them and just had Luna Park
What great old photos I’ve never been to Melbourne’s Luna Park but as a kid I loved Sydney Luna Park which I visited regularly up till the 1979 Ghost Train Fire and which is now a sad prime example of what can happen when your state government gets greedy and sells out to developers. After opening and closing again over the years it’s little more than a shell with any rides being deemed as “noisy” being shut down quickly thanks to constant complaints from richo apartment owners whose properties have sprung up on once Luna Park Land.
