This was the first episode of the original Hollywood Squares I had ever seen. I couldn’t believe GSN left in the peacock!! That was a huge bonus and very exciting to see.

I remember when GSN announced the showing of the Hollywood Squares. I called in sick from work that day just to see what was going to be on as no one knew what to expect. Luckily I had vcrs ready and taped everything they aired. It was exciting to see the 68 episodes

@@christopherangel6690GSN had a slew of NBC nighttime versions of “Hollywood Squares” and the rest of them were syndicated versions from the 1970’s.
And what’s kinda sad, that there’s no NBC “Snake” logo at the very end on a GSN airing of “Hollywood Squares” nighttime version. This is why this show should’ve ended. ruclips.net/video/_kGqiSJ6U14/видео.htmlsi=PsRMuQ_0ATwsK50T

They had no idea then that Sally Field would go on to be one of the greatest actors/actresses ever.

Dieter Dengler was the subject of two Werner Herzog films, the documentary “Little Dieter Needs to Fly” and “Rescue Dawn” starring Christian Bale as Dengler.

I really think what they ought to do when they bring back The Hollywood Squares next year--They should being back every single contestant who were on The original Squares with Peter Marshall as well as from the John Davidson & Tom Bergeron Squares (if some of them are still alive) to play for an all time super jackpot of $1,000,000!! IN FACT IT SHOULD BE NAMED THE $1,000,000 HOLLYWOOD SQUARES!! ("THIS IS NOT YOUR MOTHER,S & FATHER,S HOLLYWOOD SQUARES")

Airdate 22 March, 1968, Walter Matthau, Sally Field, Zha Zha Gabor, Van Johnson, Nanette Fabray, no Paul Lynde 😟 0:01 Gotta love the 1960s NBC color peacock bumper! 1:44 "The first man ever to escape from a communist prison camp". So no one ever escaped from Stalin's gulags? Actually Dieter Dengler (1938-2001) was born in Nazi Germany and his grandfather was against Schicky. He was taken prisoner in Laos in 1966, but escaped. A documentary by Werner Hertzog was made about him. He recovered back in the States and became a pilot for TWA and test pilot His game strategy here is a bad one: he just simply doesn't agree with any answers: he won one square, but lost all the rest. Obviously most of the celebrity squares after the joke answers give the correct one (which they are given beforehand); so if you don't know the answer it's much better to agree. Later in the show the celebrities realize his strategy and start giving deliberate wrong answers, so he wins some more squares. 19:16 Peter Marshall (who is still going strong at 96) just gave her the point and she didn't even say whether she agreed, he just assumed it

I saw a 60's episode where the question was, who wrote the music and who wrote the lyrics in the Lennon & McCartney songwriting team? And they had Lennon - lyrics and McCartney - music as the correct answer. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Jeez, well they didn't have Google to fact check back then....however the most famous songwriting team in the world they should know better!

Does Buddy Hackett have no teeth? He's thinks he's gotta be notice in most every question.
    Or he wants to
    ridiculously
drag the question out and make a bigger fool of himself! Not to mention him laughing at most
    everything! So annoying!
The Lieutenant sitting in for the X, seems to disagree with every question asked!
Losing out on most of them, because he disagreed with most of the stars answers!
