I'm so glad you shared tearing into your xfer case still on jeep. I have a WK2 with MP2010 transfer case and a slipping/popping chain. The forward shaft is near impossible to remove in order to get the case out of the way. I pulled the rear drive shaft out of the way and removed the rear xfer case cover. Worked great. By myself with no lift this is the way to go.
Hey great video! ..i just want to add that u should get the fill plug loose before the drain plug , so that u are sure u can fill it back up!.. there's nothing worse than draining it just to snap off the fill plug and can't fill it again without a drill or something scary lol
well holy hell it all fell out into my hand but couldn't see around the belly pan. put it in like that. damn just got out of the shower. thanks very much for the visual. no worries 🦘
At 9:12, the piece you didn't know what it was. Isn't that for the detent to hold the shifter in place? Threaded cap on one end of the spring, mystery piece on the other.
Great video thanks for sharing. I have some similar sounds coming from my 99 4 cylinder manual. I wonder if the cause could just be that spring. Do you remember if you could get that spring out without spilling the lube?
What hear jeep? What model year transfer case? Thank you for the video. I have a cherokee xj 2001. Hoping I can get away with doing this without removing mine. I have a 6.5" long arm lift and it's connected to the cross member so it would be a bitch otherwise.
matthew that is a good idea, however was making it up as I went and had no idea I’d have to remove the front output yoke to pull it apart haha but good idea for next time!
Working with all hand tool makes a man out of you! But after 20 years of it, it makes a old man out of you. . Thank you for your video.
That good advice haha one of these days i'll have the funds to upgrade and the places to store them.

Man, that detent pin being installed upside down is such a head scratcher. At least your spring was salvageable.

...my point is more aimed at people just changing fluid but something to note
Awesome vid! I need to replace the T-case chain in my 2000 TJ and will be using this as a reference. Nice choice for music too!
Bruh how did you repair that spring! Incredible. Great vid, I’ve got some solid chain slap.
Very helpful! I'm pulling the chain from my '01 Cherokee XJ, NP231... Great vid mate!

If you remove the rear out put shaft cover and the snap / lock rings you could remove the rear of the case.
The chain may be OK. The front out put bearing on those are often worn.
Out of all the videos I watched this one made it to easiest way to do it.
glad you worked out the detent was upside down
I needed to see this. I've been scared to crack mine open.

As if you didn't watch another minute nine seconds to see him figure it out on his own, then you made your comment trying to be a hero😂😂😂

If its chattering it will be the chain, not the spring. Best just replace the chain ae.
Replace all seals for sure and bearings if need be.
which model transfer case was that. I'm about to do the same. Mine is an NP242D
Mostly sure its an NP231. Have since sold the vehicle so sadly cannot confirm/check
thank you

Should’ve put in a new front output seal
