  • In addition to producing traditional tube amps that use conventional vacuum tubes, the good people at VOX have also been developing revolutionary amplifiers that use Nutube. Taking advantage of the technology obtained through the research of these amps, VOX has now developed a line of pedals: the VOX Valvenergy series. Nick Jennison continues our look at this range with his reviews of the VOX Cutting Edge & Copperhead Drive Pedals. I have the copper head. This pedal
    Produce rich harmonics that no
Of my other pedals Can produce. Nutube are new valves for real, they produce touch sensitive and harmonics that old tubes do.

Nu-tubes not just valve-like, they actually are valves and function in the same way. It's probably more accurate to describe nu-tube as well, new tubes.

@@phenixreturnsmaybe because you haven’t accepted the new technology like “nutube” . i think its sounds really good. Compare to the other pedal “amp like” out there. I have the cooltron too anyway bruhh hahaa

This guy wouldn’t know high gain metal if it slapped him in the face. Find an actual metal guitarist to demo the Cutting Edge. It sounded really dull and muddy in this demo.

fk up mate, just because its not the new range of shitty metal tones doesnt mean its not metal. This sounds exactly like my Mesa Duel Rec.

Sorry, I'm having my period. Music instrument companies are trying really hard to "re-invent" the Marshall, Fender, Vox or whatever sound over and over again and think they'll get more sales with a graph in a display, calling it Nutube and using buzz-words like "crushing gain". Nothing great here in my view. Sounds ordinary. I can buy a modeler for that money. I can do a lot with that money. But it won't be spent on a VOX Valvenergy Cutting Edge or Copperhead Drive.

What is the problem here , it is much better to get valve sound but without big heavy boxes of full tube amps

      No, not really.
This is a hi-tech pedal at a reasonable price, a mass-produced statement of what those wonderful sonic superhero designers at Vox are able to do - bringing in a pedal BELOW £150, adding a pointless gimmick to BLOW the minds of boutique £300 pedals that have a really simple circuit from the 70's with a new chip to freshen it - whilst these are something interesting, REALLY interesting circuits.
The 'CopperHead' is an amp-in-a-box Marshall. It is clearly a new interpretation of the Guv'nor, and the old beautiful Mk.1's are getting rare and stupidly pricey - My rig is dependent on one. The re-issues don't cut the mustard, I wish I knew why. They are OK, and I can do the job, but all the dynamic and excitement that made me use the sound in the 1st place is gone... And my Mark I is old... and was a gift from a dear and departed friend.... I don't like it doing gigs. The Copperhead is going into my rig one day. As a really cool and interesting replacement for the old Guv. Nothing else has quite matched the pace.
The cutting edge is a phenomenal alternative to the likes of the Metal-Zone.
These are some great, hi-tech products, at prices that seem to be a "f*

your name says it all really. The fact you can crap on about what you think you know, without understanding the fact that the Cutting Edge really is aiming for that Mesa tone, says it all really.
