My 6 month update since I bought the 250! I’ve learned a lot about this pit but also bbq in general so far in 2022. If you guys have any questions about the pit, feel free to leave it in the comments! See you guys soon!
Take Care ✌😁
Just talked to Big Phil, Thank you for your recomendations
Oh man thanks for the shout bro! The 250 is definitely the ultimate backyard pit. Cook at least 2 briskets and you can justify your fuel consumption. Anything more than 2 is just bonus. Keep killing it with your awesome content man! Always informative 🙏🏼
No problem! Keep killing it man, and congrats again on the 500. Can't wait to see your walk around video!
Great video. I made my 500-gallon smoker about 12 years ago. I've got maybe $500 in it, and this includes the trailer I put it on.I manage my fire kinda like they do with the big brick pits, and I move it around where it's needed. No stack, my vents are adjustable on the top of the smoker. I'd like to get into catering, I only use it once a year when I smoke turkeys for Thanksgiving. Those were some great tips.👍👍
Yes sir my 250 should be ready in a month I can't wait! Now this video has me even more anxious!
so stoked for you man! You're gonna love it!
Great video, loved the hands on advice.
You missed a perfect opportunity for a that's what she said joke. That's a great looking smoker man. 👍
hahaha appreciate it, bro
Love my 250-Gallon self built smoker its is the perfect backyard smoker. Good video!!
amen, brother!
Yes linseed oil is the way to go keeps that nice coat of sheen clear on it 👌 I’m with you on that 250 is perfect for backyard, pop ups even catering! I love my 250 from HDM SMOKERS.
Yeah man 250s are so dope!
Awesome review. I am currently building a 250 and was thinking/hoping along the same lines for a backyard smoker as you mentioned. Thumbs up.
Thank you! And congrats, man! You're gonna love it!
Boiled linseed is what I use for all my smokers if the customer wants a raw finish, saves them money 💰 not painting it.
Appreciate the insight! I gotta check out your pits on your channel! I've just been so busy the last few weeks 😓
We recently got a a smoker about 4x the size of this where i work from primitive and it runs way better than what we had
I hear primitives are beast!! That's super cool, would love to try running one!
"Don't just look at the length, also look at the width"
This is what I tell my wife!
Hahahahhahha
Great vid homie! Now you got me thinking of getting one 😂. I'm so weak.
doooo iiiiiiiittt
keep in mind- length isn't everything, girth matters!
Hahahaha true wisdom
Great vid good info. But I recently built a 120 and I’d say THAT’S the perfect size backyard smoker! lol
Man that's awesome! Yeah 120s are beasts as well! If I had unlimited money, a 120 and a 500 would be the dream set up!
Im in the process of building my own 250 right now...slow going but eventually ill my perfect smoker
Great video! I am really wanting to get a 250 eventually. Been debating on 5he build your own route. My dad is a great welder and has a bunch of scrap metal I can start with haha.
go for it, bro!
Great information! I got offset envy for sure. Are you planning to get into some catering? I thought you mentioned doing that, just wasnt sure if you are still doing it. Great video as always brother. Have a good rest of the week!
I actually am! I have a potential yt collab to do a pop up event at a brewery here in Nashville on a 1k pit. I'm hoping to just learn as much as I can during the experience and use it to launch my own catering/pop up business (or continue to do it monthly with this person if its really profitable). We're still in the early stages, but we got the brewery locked in. There's a whole lot of planning to do and numbers to crunch to see if its profitable and worth doing. But if it goes through itll prob happen in the fall. And I'll post a video about the experience for sure :)
@@AntsBBQCookout Any movement on the pop up a the Brewery? I am in Murfreesboro, and if you need some extra help, I would love to volunteer some time. I am always looking for more experience, and have a 250 on a trailer if needed.
Shout out from South Texas #Awesome Channel #Come on :)
🤠
I just built a 250 for my uncle and I have to say it was such a pleasure to run compared to my 500. It was the easiest smoker I’ve ever ran, and it was super fuel efficient. It was even easier to run than my lsg 20x42, and that thing cooks like a dream. Owning a 250 is definitely on my to do list.
What did you use for cutting the doors? And did they warp?
@@darthmaul6693 I just use an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel. And warping really just depends on the tank. My 500 warped a little, but it wasn’t too bad. I built my brother a 125 and his door warped pretty bad. The 250 I recently built though didn’t warp at all.
thanks for sharing your experience, man! it's great to hear from an actual builder vs some a joe shmoe with a pink hat 😂
Look into the Jambo backyard model Ft Worth Texas
Where do you order your wood from? How much do they charge to ship?
Ahhh, I was wondering where that shovel went!
LOL i snitched on myself 😂
i am building a 250 right now how big is your fire box?
YOU ARE MY BRISKET
🥺👉👈
Is it worth having a pit this size if your just gonna cook one brisket?
New Sub!
awesome, thanks for the sub!
You're making me think very seriously about building a 250. I love my 1k, but I'm itching to build another. Maybe your video will up the demand for 250's!
bro, i wish I had your 1k!! I think since you have such a monster pit already you should do a 120.. that would be the perfect combo to basically do anything you want!
I'll trade you Brimstone my 275 for you 1000 don't worry.
I'll probably build a 250 before I build a 120. I don't like that 120's are only 3/16.
@@BringtheSmoke you're so kind! Fair trade, right? 😁
I'm still jealous of that beast, Ant. Did you give her a name?
not yet, brother! once I pay it off I will hahaha
I am definitely going to obtain a 250! I might have to wait two years but I am going to obtain one! I have already begun to prep my wife. When our son who enters the 7th grade graduates 2025 that is when I plan to have it. Possibly sooner if I obtain a financing deal.
hey thats awesome! if you want a smaller footprint and a cheaper smoker with close to the same cooking capacity, the Goldees smoker by M&M might be a better buy for you. I am getting one next month and I plan to sell my 250 to a friend
Hello Mr Ant where do you get your wood 🪵 for $125 a chord?
Is there a big difference between a 120 gal to a 250 gal as fat ease of fire management goes?
My priority of Things to consider:
Fire management; $$$, capacity, the size vs my back yard.
I don't know who built that but it is super nice!
Thank you! It was a local builder around my area. I'm not sure if he's still building. But if you're interested you can see my first 250 review and I have a link to his Instagram in the description
As always great information. My smoker is half that size. Had it for about 18 months. I would like to get into back yard pop ups. If you have any information on regulations. City, state, federal.
Very little, friend. In TN there are licenses you have to get, but I have also been told government workers don't work on the weekends.. so take that as you will 😂 I want to get into it as well, so once I get all the info I'll post a video about it!
Who made your 250?
I just noticed how rich my grandpa was every Sunday we were eating brisket bbq and he let me help him with his 250 and he used so many good woods to smoke it and now that he died we just completely stopped the tradition I want to help get the tradition going does anyone know how I could do that
who inherited the smoker?
How were you able to find someone to build it for you?
dang that shipping is brutal man, sorry!
If I had to have 1 pit to rule them all it would be a 250.
Comparing Primitive Pits offerings a 250 is only 3 ft shorter, 3 in less diameter, while being half the weight.
hahaha one pit to rule them all.. forged by the fires of mordor 😱 are you comparing it to a 500? because I had no idea that was the case. I've never seen a 500 in person before
@@AntsBBQCookout I can’t say this is the case for all 250s vs 500s for all builders . However, Primitive Pits 250 is only a bit smaller than a Primitive Pits 500.
Alternatively, Mill Scale has their 529 (Meat Church rig). Cut the cook chamber down about 40 inches to make it more “backyard” friendly, but keep it on a trailer for easy transport. If anybody builds this rig I said it here first!
Who is the maker of this smoker?
How many pork shoulders (assume about a 9 pounder) can you fit in there?
Comfortably, about 18. Max, if I have to fill it up to right next to the firebox prob like 25-28.
Did you win that with Mad Scientist
no, but I talked to him before I bought it and he gave me the confidence to pull the trigger lol
didn't you just win a Franklin offset?
no i didn't haha you're the second person to say that lol wheres that coming from?
I wish i had a father in law
this new fad of not finishing the smoker and leaving it all ugly is so cringe tbh
Really, a 250 gallon smoker for a "backyard enthusiast"? Who are you trying to fool? Why would a normal person need to burn so much wood to heat a 250 gallon smoker, sufficient in volume to feed 50 or more people? And, why a cooker this large for a brisket, and two racks of ribs, if one os not feeding 50 + people? Thumbs down to you.
You should watch the video, i answer pretty much every question you commented
Just noticing that you can over and checked my channel out John SPF and Jorge 805 are right about you my new friend. You have it together great vid lots of info never got bored your good sir. favor returned. Lance/Sleeper BBQ
appreciate it, Lance! Take care, man 😁
didn't you just win a Franklin offset?
no lol i didn't even enter
