    Additional Notes:
    - I just learned that the Franklin Pit's cost includes shipping, It cost me $500 to have the Goldee's smoker shipped to my house, so the price gap is closer.
    - Brisket cook will be out next week (So subscribe pls!)
    Hope you guys enjoyed this review, it feels good to be back at home cooking again. I haven't cooked in my backyard in almost 6 months! I'll be back on the road early next month shooting the next BBQ Story in NC, but it was nice to stop off at home and cook like the old days. If you guys enjoy this content, then please like, share it and subscribe! That way I know I should make more of these types of videos!

Great coverage of pros and cons to allow people to decide if this is the one for them. Great review and comparison video. Haven't used a smoker and your approach gives people the info they need to know about those smokers so they can make an informed decision. I understand more about an offset smoker now and some of their features. (build qualities) Finding out on your own is why people have had 8 different smokers (and not knowing how to use them or what they're good for) so I would love to see what's best for the novice that's not going to a competition on the weekends. To me from what I seen a cabinet smoker seems to be an easier pit to master but I haven't spent big money on a smoker yet so.. Nice video anyway, stay cool!

Would you recommend any one in particular? the webber seems to be significantly less expensive then something like the sns, and obviously I don't know enough to tell the difference in where that $200 dollar delta is going, wether it be build quality or something that will actually impact the way it cooks. I know the sns insert is useful, but if I can buy that for $100 and throw it in a webber, I'd still be saving money. let me know what you think

    Does it cook as good as your 250 (or like a larger pit)? From what Jeremy says, the Franklin and Fatstack pits cook like larger offsets, providing a restaurant quality product. What are your thoughts? Gonna do a comparison with your 250?

    • @AntsBBQCookout
      @AntsBBQCookout  7 месяцев назад +1

      I cooked with them side by side for an event last Tuesday. And it ran noticibly better. I think it's because of the stack, the stack is the same width but taller on the goldees so the draw is nuts. Even at 25% closed damper it was rolling beautifully. Holds temps way better too. I think people are gonna be blown away by the brisket cook that I'll post next week. This smoker is amazing, I love it.

      @@AntsBBQCookoutThanks for the insight. Not to belabor the point, but did the briskets taste comparable? I’m asking because I’m really curious as to how airflow affects quality. This seems to be a different cooking style than Franklin, so there’s much to be investigated prior to dropping nearly 5 grand after shipping. Thanks again man.

    • @AntsBBQCookout
      @AntsBBQCookout  7 месяцев назад +1

      You can run this pit like a Franklin. Just open the damper and the door. The design just gives you more capacity in that "golden convection space" in the cooker. It would just take way longer to cook since the heat would be rushing passed the brisket. The damper let's you keep the hot smoke in the cook chamber cooking it faster and giving you insane color. It's almost like turning it into a less hot version of a cabinet smoker if that makes sense.

    Great video! Perfect timing right after Mad Scientist’s test of it and Jirby’s review of the Mad Scientist video. Still not quite sure if it is the design or the extra space that lets it supposedly cook as much as a 250 gallon, or even if it really does cook as much as a 250 gallon. You need to directly compare the two to show people. Lastly, I think you pink hat and apron give you credibility! 😂

    I can't help but believe that there's a way to eliminate or almost eliminate the hot spot in front of the heat/smoke entry point but I'm not a smoker designer. Still, I would like to experiment with different entry baffle designs and possibly add pieces of steel/shields in other areas if needed to try to more even out the flow of heat at that point. I have a couple welders and metal cutting tools so this would probably be something I would attempt if I had one of these high end backyard smokers. If none of my attempts worked as hoped I could always cut out the added pieces and go back to the original design. I would look at it as a challenge since it seems to be one of those things that hasn't been perfected yet. Also, if I had the Goldee's smoker I'd cut the smoke stack at a reasonable height in order to push it into a storage place/garage and fabricate a hinge and weld it on so that the stack could be folded. Many welders are affordable these days and while the cheaper ones most likely couldn't weld 1/4 inch steel for structural purposes I'm sure they'd be plenty good enough to add the things I've mentioned. I'd also fabricate and add a shelf on the front while I was at it.

    • @AntsBBQCookout
      @AntsBBQCookout  7 месяцев назад

      This can easily extend into a very overly long winded reply! I am also in the process of rebuilding my burned out smoker. it's only 30ish years old and is pretty much burned out on the fire pit. I've seen the Goldeez and really like the concept. The one thing that really frustrates me is all of these smokers have the opening to the end on the right hand end. I am going to rotate my fire pit so the opening is to the front, and instead of using an elbow, I am making a rectangular duct, for the throat, from the fire pit into the cooking side. I do expect to need to install future deflectors, but I won't know for sure until I have my first fires. I will continue this later, "more on the news at 11:00".

      I run my fire super smoky first few hours and damper at 25%. Once I get it rolling in the later stages of the cook there's no smoke coming out of the cook chamber :)

    • @smokescouts
      @smokescouts 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@AntsBBQCookout Some smoke leakage isn’t a big deal at all. On my 1975, I close the stack damper 2/3 and it’s a huffing puffing machine with some smoke coming out the doors, grease drain, and firebox door. I can make brisket as good as I’ve had in Texas running it like that, but not so much when I was running it stack wide open with extremely fast airflow with no smoke leakage.

    Cool pit design and great review. But I don't think you're giving Aaron Franklin the credit he deserves for his design. He built it so that you can't (hopefully) screw up a cook by playing with the stack damper and the firebox door adjustments. Just maintain temps with good fire management, as Jeremy stated in his comparison video,. On my Moberg 250, the area closest to the firebox is the coolest area unless I crank it up to 300 -350 degrees to finish a cook or to smoke chicken. You (and others) should review the Moberg backyard pit. #gottagetamoberg.

    • @AntsBBQCookout
      @AntsBBQCookout  7 месяцев назад

      I said those exact things in the video. It's a beginner friendly design. Just the franklin and the goldees are dummy proofed like that. It's a positive feature for beginners. I would love to man, I have no biases towards any smokers, I'd review them all if I had them.

  • @bayareaartist999
    @bayareaartist999 25 дней назад

    It's not subjective,
    Cost - Goldees,
    capacity - Goldees,
    controllability - Goldees,
    attention to detail - Goldees
    I am sure when you order the pit you can upgrade the wheels, a shelf and a foldable stack. Even if the price becomes comparable to franklin's the goldees pit is still better.
