Dowd still races his home track at Southwick MX338 and still gives the young AA and Pro 20’s kids a run for their money. I think he’s early 50’s now. Check him out on some of the JDay Offroad race vids. He’s a timeless classic.
I love this, one of my favorite pieces of fun about our sport. There guys are all my heroes at one stage of time or another. Got pics of G Langston with my wife and daughter dumb the LIMX Pro race for autism feat. Davy Milsaps. I've interviewed Jeffro for Cycle News and MX East when he won his class at the Kawasaki Race of Champions, he was newly on a Husky. And best of all, thru the late Great Dan Salamone, former KTM Northeast Regional Sales Manager I got to ride all of the 2001 models of KTM MOTOCROSS bikes for a review in MX East. I have been in love with the brave ever since I got to ride JOHN DOWD's Factory 250SX. I and 210, JD about 165 but I'm aB rider to his National winner speed so the set felt perfect for me. Factory bikes are NO JOKE, and it's the meticulous setup that makes them so. When Dan told me the 2003 preduction bike will have 58 HP at the crank I all but orgasmed. 🤯😳😟 A 250cc punching power to rival an Open Class bike? Don't ask me how, but I could pull 3rd gear starts on DOWD's Factory 250 SX. The 03 250SX actually pumped out MORE power than the same test SX450F🤯🤔😉 I would put my bike, in its current tune, up against even KTM's 2023 250 SX in a drag race. It's THAT FAST. Picture a VERY powerful 250 that revs up like a hot rod 125, were talking wheelies at the top of 4th gear.😳 Before I got the suspension tried my Factory Connection I was at Raceway Park fire an OP. A buddy of mine has just gotten back his FULL Pro Circuit YZ250. It was a very sharp and sharp bike. But when we swapped and he came back of my bone stock SX250 his face was drawn...he couldn't believe a factory could sell a Factory Bike replica like that. If you've ever been blessed enough to drive an ///AMG automobile, then imagine a two wheeled version of that can that is you hit the gas at 60mph it will STILL PIN you to the back of the seat. We are talking urge overkill here😏😉😎🤩 Other Factory Bike replicas they the years were CZ Falta Replica, the Montesa VR Vekhonen Replica. Kalevi Vekhonen is Pekka Vekhonin's Uncle and likely the inspiration for him to race and win a World Championship. Next in line was the Ossa Phantom 250cc another huge that ran as fast as Open Class bikes. The danger TM400 has all the power but none of the handling of Roger DeCoster 's RN400. The 1976 Honda Elsinore CR125 was a game changer. As was the 1976 RM125. The 1977 Can Am Back Widow was a ferocious 250cc bike that ran with Open class bikes. Jimmy Ellis and Buck Murphy, (no relation to Robocop Alex Murphy 😅) The next fire breathing dragon was the 1982 RM250, wickedly fast like the Phantom and the Black Widow. A certain Dr. Doug Dubach (not a real doctor, nor does he play one on TV) raced his 82 RM125 and 250 for several years. It took almost 2 decades before we got a fire breathing dragon again....that is the 2003 KTM 250SX. Find some old reviews. Of course the new bikes would out handle her, but in the start and straights, stress give is be version a hell of a run for the money. Braaap. You guys have been faster than me all my riding life, and will always be faster than me. But damn---I still look like I am 30. Even Jeff Emig, (one of my all time favorite racers and personalities of the sport), looks older than me, and I have about 10 years on him. May be you guys should slow down a bit, so I can catch up to you. lol I have not ridden in a decade, but I plan on living in my USA again my way, and getting a 2-stroke Husky. What a fantastic piece. Really brings back some great racing memories seeing legends like Dowdy and Dubach out on the track again. Nicely done!
My dad was in this race in over 50s on number 25. He got 5th overall was an awesome race
A flood of emotions and memories for my childhood and forward seeing these L Legends living the dream again💖☝️🙏🇺🇸
Holy shit this made the hairs on my neck stand up, best vid on u tube for me as 46 year old racer, my hero’s all still there loving the sport 😎👍
John Dowd! He takes about 2 laps and starts picking off the squids one by one. Great racer!
Sunny no squids out there, all former National Grand Prix racers and student she groups within.
