these where the times of my life back in the early 80's. I was there back then with my parents, 12 years of age to watch my hero's. We travelled around europe in the summer to watch the GP's. Ettelbruck and Namur also.
I grew up watching scramblers/ moto x on grandstand in black n white Jeff Banks was a superstar I travelled to farleigh castle to watch Noyce a beautiful summer day I miss this stuff on tv but what memories of younger days .
The reigning world champion (1982 #1) , Brad Lackey, is distinctly missing from the line up.... so sad he didn’t stick around to defend his title. These were the very best years of MX....👍 What’s up with all the works 500 Suzuki’s in this race? Two of them watercooled even?
DeCoster said in an interview that Brad had "burned all his bridges". Brad ride a YZ at Carlsbad that year, then hung it up. But, as he says: "I'm still walkin' and talkin'." Mahlherbe couldn't say that.
Nice piece of footage. Imagine this event being run using electric motocross bikes. No atmosphere and a crowd of maybe 75% less because of it. Electric motocross bikes will be the death of the sport. Sound and atmosphere is EVERYTHING in motorsport.
The golden age of motocross.
Simply great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for posting
Hakan carlqvist my hero absolute Star of my Motocross years the man had more crashes than anyone. Very tough guy . So sad cancer got him. RIP Carla

They cut the tree down in 1979, it was probably a small sapling, gradually growing back in 1983.
