The ol' gal (Mary Lou) had been in that location there since the '64 quake. Before that they were in the old town of Portage, no longer there. The old town of Portage sank 20 feet during the '64 quake so the bar had to move to higher ground, where it currently stands. I believe the bar is closed now and has been for years but Mary Lou still ran a gift shop there. I only met her once, a few years ago. She just recently died at 91 years of age, I think. I remember when that sign was lighted and flashing every single night, it was the party hub for the whole Turnagain Arm. Thanks for watching!
