Growing Pains Reunion R.I.P. Alan Thicke, 13th December 2016. By the way, wanna know what life is all about? check out this short video: • #FallingPlates
The chemistry of Joanna and Alan is palpable - then and now. You can tell they adore each other what a pity they did not end up together or maybe that what keeps them being friends :-)
They were dear friends until the day he died. It would have been cool had they dated, but I'm glad they didn't because they wouldn't of had the beautiful friendship they had.
@@emoody79 Alan said in an interview that the best part of his audition for the role of Jason was the fact that he got to kiss Joanna and it was the beginning of 7 wonderful years for him. Aw. Getting paid to kiss a beautiful woman everyday? Can't go wrong with that! 😀 Joanna herself said that she and Alan had this special connection because of all the time they spent together as their characters and being husband and wife onscreen. That came across even all those years later. I envied their relationship. Alan is so very missed. 😢
+jaredontv Yeah, I wholeheartedly agree with you. Because in today's politically correct society, people would whine about the show not being diverse. Because in their words it's "too white"
I liked the nineties, but I remember watching Family Ties and Cosby. Family Ties doesn't hold up too well, but Cosby does. Unfortuneately I can't stand to watch Cosby anymore, or Seventh Heaven for that matter (not that I watched it much anyway.) I remember Leave it to Beaven, that still holds up......Seinfeld was funny, Everybody Loves Raymond.....
This is a heart breaker!!! The cast was so close, they must feel as though they really did lose a husband & father! RIP Alan and by the way, you had a beautiful voice!
aww I loved this... I loved the show so much growing up, and I actually got to meet Kirk Cameron and his wife Chelsea Noble once.. had a full on conversation, got to hug Kirk and everything, got autographs as well. it was amazing
I didn’t realize how much I miss this show, this era of TV, until watching this. It makes my eyes tear up a little. This is one of the shows that made me want to be a child actor... never happened. But this is just awesome to watch
This show was so awesome. The cast was awesome. It was like watching a real family you just wanted to be a part of. Maggie was like my most favorite tv mom of all time, because she was yes strict, yet sensitive but fair and to me she was also empathethic. I mean she was like the mom we all wanted to have. Mike was funny and somewhat rebellious, but someone we could relate too. I mean i didn't see Mike as a bad example, but rather like a mentor because when tough times came we learned a lot from him. Mike's relationship to Boner was how i learned to be a great friend to my real life friends. Jason was like the emotional support every kid or teen needed, and when we lost our way he would bring us back to reality. Carol was like the sister I always wanted to have, someone that would challenge me at life to be better a better person. Finally Ben was all of us a the time kids, trying to live life at its fullest and re discover who we are and who we wanted to be in life. This show was everything and it will always be a part of not just our pop culture but our hearts as well. Thank you guys for doing such an awesome job.
As a kid I LOVED this show. I also had THE biggest crush on Tracey Gold. They don't make television with the heart that this show had anymore. I know this is from years ago but its good to see them all seemingly doing well.
You'r right. Although I thouroughly enjoyed Seinfeld when it was on, it was the first sitcom with a very very tiny heart, if any at all. Then we had Curb Your Enthusiasm, which is very funny, but it could also be called "People Behaving Badly". Everybody Loves Raymond had heart, so did King of Queens at first......
There are NO words to express how much this show meant/means to me,or the cast. I am so sad Alan has passed and never really met him. I so wish I had been @ this reunion just so I could tell each & Everone of them "Thank you" for bringing me such Joy.
Alan Thicke sure is missed by so many. Such talent and genuine charismatic realism. True father figure evident on and off screen. One of my favorite celebrity father figures.
I think he's a nice guy, I'm a Christian Universalist and don't agree with most of the positions he's been vocal about (gays, men being the head of the house etc., the evolution thing.) But we're all different. In my house we'd always say that Dad was the boss, but we all knew it was Mom........She always had all the power....
This is one of the few 80's shows that makes me time travel when watching it. The theme song opens up time warp memories of the past. Family Ties as well.
I didn’t grow up with this show on air, but I did watch it faithfully while it was in syndication or had reruns on TV. I always wished I had a family like what they showed on this show.
The show was remarkably amazing with all the sways of emotions, true swings that hit the deep of your soul. I love the show and it has became a favorite over the bad shows. Even changed the perspective of life and more so towards Christ even though it may not have been about Christ. I felt okay through hardship through life even when alone. You guys were amazing job together. Even in reunions. ❤
I've never seen a show or casts for any show who are so real and united ...cultured....responsible ...gracious and patient...grounded and down to earth like them and theirs. they are really family. what value they bring in their life and into the show and tat they are not hypocrites. they are not that much different from the show and their real life and self. I've never seen such union. such beauty. such grace so divine.
I agree, they seem like really nice people who truly bonded. A lot of stars say it was like a family on the set, but few seem to relate to each other like this.
That was so nice, very warm, comforting feeling to it. They really must have bonded like a family. Kirk seems like a really nice guy too-sometimes because people differ about issues we forget we're all people.
I still love this show next to family ties. I finally got to Jeremy Miller Ben just last week at comic con in long beach. Got my picture with him. He is really a great guy
Amen as Christian believer myself we need all the faith in these in times we're living I pray peace for Isreal and Ukraine right now for God's angel watch over them Procter the family and kids.
So glad that she was able to get over her annorexia and enjoy life. I hear they tried to make one of the cast members on the Facts of Life to lose weight but later decided to let the girls be themselves
One of the best and funny shows ever made. The 80s had the best sitcoms and the best cartoons because the cartoons were epic and made sense. Growing Pains and the Cosby Show had to be the 2 best 80s sitcoms. Even when you watch them today the shows are amazingly funny. I don't think there is any family sitcom today that can outmatch them. What would have been really good if they had the Huxtables meet the Seavers. Both families lived in NY...the Huxtables in Brooklyn and the Seavers in Long Island, so it is not far fetched that they would have met one another. If that episode ever happened, I think it would have had very high ratings, probably unmatched by anything today.
Mr21Daytime the Cosby Show was more high rated, and more popular then Growing Pains at the time, a crossover, it's impossible, there is more funny shows then Growing Pains, you had Cheers, Golden Girls, Night Court, Different World, Fresh Prince, The Simpsons, Married With Children, Desiging Women, Full House, Home Improvement, Who's The Boss, Family Matters, Step by Step, Roseanne, Seinfeld, so why Growing Pains were funny, they didn't have a live studio audience even before they were popular in the 80's
alex kanyima I do think the cosby was a higher rated show. It still it is to me too. I remember the girls though talking about kirk cameron during his time in growing pains. They show reruns of growing pains on the UPtv network, and I have to say, watching that show today as an adult I can see the humor in it. I still think a crossover would have been cool. Both fathers were doctors (Cliff a medical dr., and Jason a psychologist), so they could have had a show where a 3 day summit was being held where doctors in different fields would come to the 3 day summit for whatever. Then Cliff Huxtable and Jason Seaver would be sitting next to each other (whispering to each other like 3rd graders not wanting to get in trouble with their teacher) about how they both dislike being there because when the host doctor talks he takes too long and his jokes are not funny. They hang out for the next 3 days of the summit and invite one another to each ones house. Theo and Mike hook up and get into trouble. Carol and Vanessa hook up since both were the brainiacs among their siblings, and Rudy and Ben hook up because they both dislike having to be told they are too young to do whatever. I am not sure about their ages but I think the kids from both shows are around the same ages, so I do think it would have worked. The Cosby show was the best though, and I even enjoy it more watching it today, because as an adult you get the jokes, and the meanings of what they are saying. I don't remember the show title, but it is the one where cliff and his friends all came together to go bowling. Two of the main supporting actors are from the west indies and they are making jokes in the show and making fun of cliff. One of the special guest actors who is the second supporting actor is hilarious. I think he is from Jamaica.

Joanna mentions in this video that another Canadian actor, someone who starred in SCTV, had also auditioned for the role of Jason Seaver. Does anyone know who this might have been? My guess is Joe Flaherty, since he played fathers in sitcoms later on, and he seems the most likely.
We all grew up watching this show. Its a huge part of our childhoods. Alan will sadly missed.
I was a baby when it premiered. But I did grow up with the reruns. Loved the show.
WoW. what a good time they had that night... RIP Alan Thicke , Prayers for his Family

I enjoyed the informal format. It seemed really relaxed.
RIP Alan Thicke. Thank you for the memories.
The chemistry of Joanna and Alan is palpable - then and now. You can tell they adore each other what a pity they did not end up together or maybe that what keeps them being friends :-)
I read that they had considered dating but decided not to because they knew it would be detrimental to their show if the relationship didn't work out.
They were dear friends until the day he died. It would have been cool had they dated, but I'm glad they didn't because they wouldn't of had the beautiful friendship they had.
Agreed. The ease they have around each other... it does my soul good to see it. I’m sure his death was more devastating to her than we even know.
