    Be sure to subscribe to my new channel! I'll still make these videos when I can, but they are time consuming and take a while to put out. I put out content on my blog and Captain Devin Fishing RUclips channel much more easily, so there you will find more updates from me: www.youtube.com/@captaindevin

    I haven't been to Elmers or even Grand isle area in general since they cut off vehicle access to the beach, and I know many many people who agree and also haven't been back since. Its just another freedom they have taken away from us, and its not even worth going down there anymore. It used to be one of the coolest things to be able to drive your pickup onto the island and fish but now thats ruined and im sure they have easily cut tourism income in half by doing so.

    First of all, I know what kind of a hassle it is to make a quality video that keeps your audience engaged. Whether it be from utilizing the drone to capture overheads or a nice time lapse of the waves, or placing your tripod in the water so you can ride your bike past it for :02 seconds of B-roll. So kudos for the effort and I’m subscribing just for that reason.
    Secondly, I grew up in GM and my family is from Chenier. Surf fishing in or around GI is my absolute favorite! Here’s what I’ve learned…if the tide isn’t moving you’re wasting your time. I have found schools of bullreds “sleeping” in Caminada Pass where I was able to grab them by hand. Once the tide started moving, those same fish became extremely active. Another thing is that live bait is king. Obviously it’s a p.i.t.a. to haul it around and can get expensive, but you’ll catch way more using live shrimp, croakers, or cocahoe’s. If you’re able to, go to Elmer’s the night before you fish and put out a minnow trap on the bay side near the road. That area is CHOKED with cocahoes at night! I know from floundering that area frequently. Lastly, it’s sort of a pain but bring a 6’ piece of 2” pvc pipe. Once you find your fishing spot, sink the pipe into the sand where you’re standing and throw out a heavy line with some cut mullet. There’s nothing like hitting the specks then all of a sudden your second line starts singing!!
    Again, I appreciate the efforts of this vid. Including the bike ride 😂. I know it all had to be taxing.

    We used to catch limits on the Port Fourchon side by where what used to be sunken barges filled with rocks. The barges are rusted away but the rocks are still there. Doesn't look like you could get there easily now, the bridge going there is gone

    Paul Brown Fatboy & Softdine, Mirrolure Mirrodine & Mirrolip, Super Spook & Spook Jr. Those will lead you to the promised land at Elmer's. But dink slaying with a popping cork or double rig is also an option.

    Devin, I noticed that you kept closing the bail on your reel with your left hand rather than just reeling to close the bail. Was the bail spring just weak or was there another reason/? Semper Fi.

    • @johnfontenot7861
      @johnfontenot7861 3 месяца назад

      Always close the bail with yr hand instead of reeling it closed.

    • @426thAirborne
      @426thAirborne 2 месяца назад

      Reeling to close the bail is what wears them out. Always close it then reel.

      It's just some generic bike from Wa-Mart. It's really not that great. You should go to a local bike store and have them walk you through what's best for you. Brooks Bikes in Mandeville or Slidell would be good. Thanks for watching!

    Hey Devin, what kinda wade vest is that you’re using?

    • @LAFishBlog
      @LAFishBlog  3 месяца назад +1

      It's an old H2O Express wading belt. It's pretty cheap and generic, but gets the job done. Thanks for watching!
