Million poppies will definitely make you sleep, and just that rose knows my name.. ive been low, like a junkie cosmonaut.. you feel like youre a million miles below everyone elses feet. A million miles, a million miles!😢 Well put.. and the rythm mirrors the repetative waves of withdraw smooth then hard
In 1993 I won concert tickets from the local college radio station. Three bands in Hershey Pa: Cracker, Gin Blossoms, with the Spin Doctors headlining. The Spin Doctors sucked (we left three songs in), Gin Blossoms killed it, but Cracker blew me away! Instantly a life long fan, and David's songwriter was a huge inspiration to my own. 30 years later, they're still going strong. Cracker rocks!
Cracker should never have been on a bill with bands like that (IMO) but hey, that was the 90s. I saw Cracker at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta in the late 90s and they were super tight and clear as a live act; I was actually taken aback by how technically sound they were. They used Low as the encore for that show, and for part of the evening David Lowery played what I remember as a green and white Charvel semi-hollow that sounded incredible. And that night I also realized what a truly outstanding guitarist Johnny HIckman is. Cracker is absolutely one of the five best bands of the 90s and I think their reputation will only grow with the passage of time.
@bluebirdconundrum Couldn't agree more! Met Johnny and David in the lobby of the World Café early before a show. Super cool, we chatted for a little bit, and away they went. Really got into CVB because of these guys too!
God I love this song so much brings back good time memories of a younger me that was happy and jamming in an old 80s Chrysler to a timeless rock anthem.
93 yet i didn't really here this on the radio until a couple years ago? what happened to this song for like 14 years? its like just recently radio decided they missed this.
Is it wrong that all I want to do is go back in time to these days? Music and movies were good, Conan's show was FUCKING HILARIOUS, and things were so much more simple and relaxed.
Underrated? This song was on the radio nonstop in the '90s. Like it was literally everywhere. So tired of people who don't get what "underrated" means. 😆
Best analogy I can give is the experience watching hockey. Hockey is the sport that has the most gap between live and tv. The energy live does not translate on TV. This performance is like watching hockey live. The guitar and baselines are so “dirty and raw” and that comes through so much more on this performance than the album. One of the most enjoyable live performances I have ever seen.
I know his sister, Sandra Lowery, and niece Jenna Lowery. A VERY TALENTED FAMILY. Sandra has cerebral palsy, but worked at our neighborhood YMCA for years while raising a wonderful daughter - who is now a Redlands City Council member. Sandra also has the gift of reading tarot cards - often with pinpoint accuracy!
Kid grows up in Redlands, CA- makes good. As an aside, I think Conan has been the most engaging of the talk show host with his musical guests. His show has gotten better since he left NBC and went to TBS.
If you guys are confused, I think the song is about meeting a girl who doesn't like getting low, or high, and walking the streets behind glass a million miles below everyone, symbolizing that they aren't low, but he still likes her and gets the same feeling when he's with her.
Your an idiot, it's about heroin. Getting low, a million poppies gonna make me sleep.... And you turn it into some stupid song about a girl. Not every song is about relationships....if your confused....
Michael Inglis In the song he is actually comparing the girl he has found to being high on heroin. Being low or getting low was a 60's reference to doing smack and several references are made such as "junkie cosmonaut". Also being stoned originally referred to heroin and users still use that term. That is what he is saying that being with her is like being stoned. Hope this helps.
As an ex heroin addict "they" don't still use that term. That's reserved for bud. On heroin you get "faded" or "noded". Besides the I'll be with you girl like being low line it's far from a relationship song as the previous person stated. Yours is more on point though. Thanks for the info.
@@erinflannery1920 I've been clean 5 years lol my month methadone take outs just got approved today. But yeah we still used nodding just not copping a nodd. But I'm sure it all depends were you are geographically.
Heard this on the radio, I didn't know what it was but I thought it sounded cool. So I took out my music recognition app on my phone and recorded the song and told me the name. Here I am now :D
I want the 90's Back!
Thanks for posting! I really love this band. They're important for my sanity. ❤️😄

Love this song
Bad Religion, Cracker, Pearl Jam and Social Distortion should all tour together 😊❤in 2023
David Lovering casually on percussion :)
One of the most underrated BANDS of the 90's
this is how songs should sound
This has truly aged well.
One of the best songs of the 90's, easily! Top 3!
Richmond Virginia Rules Baby Boy 👦 rock on 🤘
Fantastic mullet
The real story here is the clean sound of David’s guitar during the verses. Those open E’s are a sound that a lot of people would love to replicate.
In 1993 I was in X-Ray school and me and my classmates used to hang out for a beer and this tune was as in the radio. Awesome times the early 90s…
You know a band is talented when they sound just as good or even better live than they do in a studio. These guys are amazing!
Yes
They are killer live! Agreed.
I think the guitar solo sounds better live. It’s a simple, tasteful solo.
Throwing down!!!
That’s not talent. That’s mindfulness.
I remember these days..........................I miss these days.
I love this song and this band..
This is a flawless performance
I'd never seen these guys playing live before. WOW! ROCK SOLID. Sounds as good as or better than the album, god damn.
At 2:21 "Like some junkie cosmonaut" the guys are dancing so perfectly together and in time its satisfying as fuck to watch
Yeah their adrenaline was cascading down their backs.great moment

that blue screen or what ever was so fucking cool. BREING THAT SHIT BACK!
I wore the Kerosene Hat album out back in the day!!!!!!
Woah, David Lovering from Pixies on the drums!
This song gives me a craving for a cigarette.
Loved this as a teen . Timeless is great music.
Wow….this song gives me THE CHILLS
90s rock is a long lost art
Great job
they sound fucking great live
I’ve got a Devil Complex anyway.
They really nailed those harmonies in the chorus.
It kind of makes the song
Gotta love songs about heroin!
These guys are the poster children for 90's music. Like a comet, bright flare and then quick burnout.
Not really...
I miss you 90's. More than you can imagine.
Me too
Me three
This song is totally bad ass.
The lead singer, David Lowery, teaches at UGA now and he's my music business professor.
When I was at UGA, we were going to see Camper Van Beethoven at 40 watt
What? That's crazy! I've lived in Athens for a while now and I had no idea he was at UGA.
Amazing.
That is absolutely great
Who that uncle Jessi on lead?
I miss real music.
2019 anyone?
This song is amazing! it's like Tom Petty mixed with Grunge!
Hi I Recommend checking out an Indie Rock Song called 'Looking Into the mirror' By Robert Nix
@@redskies4530 That was painful
Good summation
Yes.
This guys are playing at my friends house in July I swear to god. I can't fucking wait to go nuts when they play this
I want in
The first time I heard this was like hearing "Light my Fire" the first time.
Wow this is good
One of the best songs of all time!! Never get tired of listening to this!
I took bands like this for granted back in the day. Shame on me.
Shame on us all, pal. Well, we've been punished. Karma.
How would we have known? Know the shit is Beyoncé !!! We are screwed to put it nice!
fucking moving words, guys. but utterly true, isn't it? We're fucked in every way with music right now. Takes hours to find anything good
Music that blows you away after 30 years as much as it did when you first heard it...now thats saying something.
I am lucky to have found them still. Good music will always be appreciated.
Is it wrong that all I want to do is go back in time to these days? Music and movies were good, Conan's show was FUCKING HILARIOUS, and things were so much more simple and relaxed.
Nah. I feel it, too. Those were the dayz
One of the most underrated songs of the 90's
Omg yes. This song and Get Off This are so awesome.
Underrated? This song was on the radio nonstop in the '90s. Like it was literally everywhere. So tired of people who don't get what "underrated" means. 😆
more 4 us, dude
Among the best rock songs ever! Perfect blend of lyrics, vocals, instruments, and atmosphere-unique
100% agree. This song is amazing

Uncle Jesse finally made it. Also, they played the shit out of this song

the 90's were so great ....this is just 1 of so many great songs of that decade
totally agree.
OMG, last night on my way home from school, this song came on the radio. Its really cool.
I can't really disagree with you, but I'm seriously here for the music- that is ONE way we can unite all people....music knows no boundaries!
So good. FYI: the James Webb space telescope is 1 Million miles beneath our feet.

Songs like this kept me alive through the 90s. 23 years sober today.
But the Drummer!!!!!
Slammin' live performance! Tight! 🔥🔥🔥
I remember when this song came out, I loved it and still do over 20yrs later.
Add another decade to that 20 years, and it's still a wicked tune...
they are good live
I miss these songs! Need to put them back on the radio.
Damn, Cracker kicked ass on this performance!
A million poppies gonna make you sleep....
Song bout sour jane
Saw them with Gin Blossoms and Spin Doctors in 1993. Such a fun show. Great band.
Wow that’s heck of a line up!
Like always kicked asses. Cracker is great!!!
