Lara’s name has come up often, but I’ve somehow never actually heard her before today. Yet another introduction to a great artist who may otherwise have passed me by.
You are in for a treat diving into her catalogue. She's amazing in concert: being on stage seems to unleash her inner beast. There are vids on youtube with her live performances. Check out Je Suis Malade from the live concert From Lara With Love. There's a vid with both French & English subtitles. That was my gateway drug to her about 18 months ago. And down the rabbit hole I went, never to return. A stunning artist in all respects. Fluent in French, English, Italian and Spanish, she calls herself a songwriter with a voice. She and Sarah Vaughan are the two voices that stop me in my tracks every single time. Velvet.
Cheers!
@@DoggieFosters thanks! Have loved what I’ve heard thus far. Will be diving a little deeper today. And I couldn’t agree more about Sarah Vaughan.
good evening mr Sklar, I am French and I admire your work, I have already seen you in concert it is an unforgettable memory, you are a wonderful artist, see you soon.
salut :)

@@phenixreturns salut,ça sera avec plaisir (découvrir le contenu de ta chaîne).:)
Lara for me (with Anne Wilson from Heart and Streisand ) is the one of the finest vocalists in the world. Love her body of work in Europe.
I agree with you. Ever listen to Floor Jensen?
Lee, some of us are quite familiar with Lara Fabian. Not many come along like her very often - truly gifted. For those who would like to become acquainted with her gift, I might suggest “Je Suis Malade” for starters. Candidly, it’s hard to believe. Thanks much for your videos, Lee.....interesting and informative. Stay safe, stay well, and peace your way.
Her performance of it from the concert From Lara With Love was truly stunning. An honest to God revelation for me.
And then I just kept digging into her work more and being more and more gobsmacked. 🤣
@@DoggieFosters agreed. I watched several videos last night and each one was amazing.....and then listened to her all mornings. A true chanteuse.
Lara is special 💕
Hello Lee. Keep the squeak. It’s part of the setting. 😀
Save The Squeak is a good slogan 😂
SAVE THE SQUEEK indeed 😄
I'd really miss it, should it ever go! "Save the Squeak!"
Hi.. Thank you for this.. Lara Fabian has a beautiful voice, her live performances are always mesmorazing . I love this song.. She has tons of beautiful songs, I hope someday you talk again of Lara.. Greetings from Portugal.
What a powerful song and arrangement. Lara Fabian is one of the most incredible singers on the planet, imo. Love your work you've done with every artist you've played with. When I play the bass I always try to channel the Sklar bass in my mind. You always serve the song in such an incredible way. Your channel is delight. Thank you.
The song done by both Leanne Rimes and Lara was Review My Kisses. Jean Claude Lalanne was Lara's love interest between 2003 and 2006 and it was at this time that Lara sang some of her most eloquent pieces. Lalanne's influence.
As long as the chair is squeaking, everything seems to be ok !
Good evening, everybody, It’s Saturday, the 20th March. It’s 08:33 p. m. here in Austria, 33 minutes after Lee uploaded this video ...
Hi Lee. I’m a long time fan of yours, pianist-conductor, vocal coach. Lara’s pitch and voice developments obebod the finest in the business. Her control is as good as any opera singer. Her 2002 live Sony-produced concert is nothing short of amazing musical expression with great arrangements and superb vocal technique. She is it!
Was that a typo on obebod? What did you mean to say? I’m not being snarky.......
@@w.geoffreyspaulding6588 covfefe moment! 😄

HOLY COW LEE. JEEEZ. I LOVE her voice! Thank you so much! Beautiful ballad. She has a voice made for Country too

«Je t'aime»
I like this rendition for many reasons. Her voice was in top form, the tempo does not drag ; the pianist, from Montreal (that is significant), remains, in my view, the best accompanist for her. Just the two of them, on stage for an entire evening!

Wow. Blown away by her voice and this song. 🎶 ❤💥
After watching this post I immediately went to Alexa to get a sampling of her style WOW. She is a true CHANTEUSE. Not the same timbre, but in her choice of songs, her range, power, incredible control, and her phrasing is SO like Streisand to me.
Streisand is one of her big idols. Dig around youtube for her live performances. She's a beast live. Her fans always prefer her live performances to her recordings. Always.
She has a vid of a live performance of Papa Can You Hear Me/Piece of Sky that is like a broadway show. I'll find you a link.
Here you go. Cheers! ruclips.net/video/fwrR9Feb0kg/видео.html
@@DoggieFostersMAGNIFIQUE!! merci! 😄
What a refreshing and beautiful voice Lara Fabian has. Thank you Lee for introducing her to us, common mortals. And thank you for keeping us all entertained with these wonderful videos. I'll look her up on the french side of RUclips. Cheers!!
I have been a big fan of Lara Fabian for a few years now; now I am a big fan of yours.
I’m gonna have to check out more of Lara’s music! What a lovely voice....
Evening Leland and everybody
Hello, Ann! I hope your day went swimmingly.
Winston Hi Winston, day did go swimmingly, thanks.
How was your day.
@@anncaswell8569 The day has gone really well. Thank you. I went to a local music store to inquire about getting a guitar serviced. My son would like a hip shot detuner on one of his bass guitars, similar to Lee’s device on Frankenstein. I drop-off the instrument tomorrow.
Winston wow Winston, you have music stores open.
In England, only essential shops are open.
I love the Frankenstein.
Never sure that Leland no longer takes it on the road, due to monetary value, or sentimental value or both.
I have spent most of the day, chatting to a man in America, on Facebook, that has a group on Mastiff digs.
I used to show the breed, many moons ago.
Also trying to research a person in Holland 1940.
I bought his tiny diary in a flea market a few years ago.
It is in great condition.
Mainly blank, but one entry states" I am writing this entry with German pen and German ink in Denhag. Today i join the 133 regt ".
I just wondered what became of Herman Hoffstee.
Good evening, Ann!
Another rain slated to become our snow here in Colorado, hopefully not another blizzard. Love the sound of "The Last Goodbye." Have a great Sunday.
Lee ..I'm afraid if you fix the chair it will take away the nuance..Great singer with Lara..Can't go wrong there..
Musical style reminds me of Amanda Marshall, whom you also introduced me to.....also Karla Bonoff. And yeah Faith Hill too. Gorgeous voice
Thanks again Lee for introducing us to a lesser known, but wonderful singer in the form of Lara Fabian. I’m definitely going to follow up on her work.
lesser known? Where? 🙄She is a superstar all over Europe, Russia and Asia..
@@PauloBono1978 Lesser known in the USA and in my case the UK. I guess it’s the fact that a lot of her songs are not in English. It’s a shame that she wouldn’t get air play.
@@Ian-Steele I only discovered her a year and a half ago and was gobsmacked. She and Sarah Vaughan are the two voices that stun me every time.
She’s an international treasure. A voice that not many pull off these days.
She's very big here in quebec, been around since the early 90s. She was a judge recently on our French Canadian "the voice" talent show
Hello Leland, I came across this video by chance because I'm a fan of Lara. I didn't know you but you impressed me a lot. Your work is magnificent and I like your philosophical approach to music and your eclecticism on musical genres. So I looked at some of your work and I will continue. Although I am not a musician, I can still say that you can be proud of what you have accomplished. Thank you also for giving such praise to my favorite singer. Be well!! PS/could you activate the automatic translation please because I do not master the English language.
Hi Leland. Nice to se you react to my nr ONE female vocalist of all time. Lara has the most wonderful voice of her generation. And the emotions she brings to the table is just amazing. She is truly one of a kind. Thank you so much.
Wow what a great singer!! Thank you!!!
Another beautiful voice and arrangement! Thank you. Enjoy your evening.
Lara sounds like Faith a bit! Beautiful voice!!!
I've come to think of Fabian as something of a vocal chameleon. She's known for sterling technique that she puts to great use digging into the emotional core of each song. I'd like to recommend to you the performance that was my gateway drug to her: Je Suis Malade (vid with French and English subtitles.) Then perhaps her Caruso with English subtitles. Her technique and texture change as needed.
(I became a late in life Super Fan. 🤣)
Lara is an amazing singer. If anybody's interested, just search for 'Je suis malade Lara Fabian French and English subtitles' on RUclips and you guys will see and hear what I mean. Thanks Lee!
She is unique. Even phenomenal.
I did.....WOW.....and then I watched several more. What an emotive performer she is.....reminds me of Celine Dion in many respects...
Happy Spring! Keep the squeaky chair. Its apart of you. 😊 Thanks for sharing such a beautiful voice!
Hello Lee from Arkansas Usa...my Uncle produced at A&M RECORDS 35 years! I love these daily music lessons!
A&M was like a second home to me.
What you said about TOTO us similar to Zeppelin.....HUGE in US and other parts of the world and only after that becoming well known in Britain.
Lara Fabian is great.
Wow..what a voice....and a great group of musicians. Bass is always sweet. Looking forward to all the projects, the documentary, the album..all of it. Can’t wait. Immediate Family tonite, great. Thanks for all you do. Stay safe🖕
Hey Leland, when you were on tour with Phil Collins, do you remember a guy called Noel? He worked for Nova Travel the tour bus company! He was friends with Alice Cooper, Slash and Dweezil! Anyway, the sad news is, he passed away. I won’t go into the details only to say coach driving contributed in a big way! That and fast food! Can you pass that message on? Prayers from Wales
Yes!

It certainly would! And January is a great time to escape the short days and head to the sunny Caribbean.

Still wanna thank you to play on Waylon's album 99'9% of the Dutch don't know who you are. Really Lee, I heard a lot who are you to mension a name they don't know! Oh my! Love this song! Thank you!!
Hi Lee! Loved your dog walking post today - felt like I was right there with you.
I am so enjoying these recent "DeeJay Lee" posts - love the introductions to these new avenues of music for me. The range of your repertoire is so brilliant and vast. I cannot wait to see your documentary - it's going to be phenomenal, I can already tell. Who knows, we may see you and the boys at the Oscars in the future ;)
Laura Fabian is a tremendous artist. These amazing talents can sing in languages other than English, which offers so many more opportunities.
Lara...
What a great channel! Subscribed. 😎
So pleased my all-consuming love of Lara Fabian brought me here.
Happy first day of spring!
Exciting to hear about the documentary and about the album!
Lara now lives in Quebec and this year she’s a coach at Star Academy (which is similar to The Voice). Very nice person, amazing pipes and great talent.
Thank you for the music and for mentioning Mike Baird and Ray Brinker. I went to check and loved them! Best...
Can't wait to see the documentary!
Boy your right this girl has some pipes.Yes amazing voice..and what a great band.I will have to llok for her on You Tube ?Once again thats Mr.Skalar.Stay safe , Be safe!!!!!
She is amazing!
Of course, Desmond Child is probably most well known for his work with Meat Loaf's Bat Out of Hell albums.
Laura is fantastic! I would love to hear a team up with Faith Hill. That would be amazing.
Go ahead and add me to the list of people who haven't heard of this fabulous artist. Nice, powerful song choice, too, for an introduction to Lara. That had to have been a fun session.
So exciting to hear that good progress is being made on the documentary, and looking forward to the album release.
Stay safe and stay well!
Pipes is right!! Thanks as always!!!
I remember her at the LDF concert in 2014 when I first met you! Some set of pipes there!! Sounds alittle like Leanne Rhimes ...
Question, Sir:
When these songs are playing, how often do you head back to the studio in your mind? Many times it seems you are just somewhere else
They can be an out of body experience.
Keep safe Leland. You're the real hero!
Just listened to your live concert with Toto.
Love the Archie Bunker reference!
Keep well, Sir.
Thank You Lee 👍🏻 happy saturday 🖐🏻
She has a very good voice 🙌🏽
Hi Lee. Hope you're enjoying the weekend. Spring has sprung!
Evening over here in Dutch land, take care brother! 💯

Is this Portuguese? Just curious...
@@w.geoffreyspaulding6588 Yup!
You scared me for a moment on the fundraiser. Glad it wasn't that kind of a new hip. (I wondered how I could have missed that).
Any chance you could show us the bass line to Pretty Little Adriana by Vince Gill? It is a simpler song but it is such a tastefully done bass line and it gets muddied a little bit, I am sure there is some gems that get over looked because of the engineering. Thank you Lee!!
Lee has already done this one - it's video number 78.
Turned out to be a pretty day. I did the same wet garden furniture and pillows...the wife's 60th B'Day here today small celebrations. Always nice to get your posts.
What a great voice! Who were the musical gate keepers (back in the day) that decided who passed or not into the US market. I know, too complicated to explain. Thanks for sharing.
Team Celine Dion (...) did everything they could to stop Lara (this is now documented). In their view, there could not be another singular artist, unique, intense, with enormous talent, fluent in four languages, with vocal technique mastery and beauty, to step in the same market = Powerful voice. The record company threw her from here to there and ultimately tried to make her a Dance Music singer. Can you believe it ?! Lara was already a successful, established artist all over Europe and Canada, writing her own songs in French and Italian. She did not recognize herself in that style, not to mention that she was too much like this, not enough like that (she was told repeatedly she had to lose weight and move certain ways...). You get the picture. Therefore, Lara's dream of a big career in the US was over within a few months. Just a few. (she still occasionally performs in New York, Los Angeles, and other major cities, she even sang with the Boston Pops.)

@@fredericlinden that is just so wrong.......it’s terrible what is done to great talents....”the suits” try to ruin it. They tried the same stunt t with Heart in the eighties...until the Wilson sisters told them to eff off...
@@fredericlinden Thanks for the answer and astounding video link. This is the sort of thing that gives me a headache or acid stomach about the music business. I remember hearing about record companies choosing an artist to focus their time and money for a recording release. To ensure success of that release, the record company would scout similar artist, offer them recording contracts for the express purpose of locking them in and not record them), as to prevent other record companies from signing them and releasing competing records. I'm an old dude who watched too many 50's tv shows where everybody played fair . I'm sorry for talent like Lara's and others of that caliber that get shoved off the field. We're the ones who miss out as listeners.
More unheard goodies👍 Thanks again, enjoy your day and as always much appreciated 🖕🖕🖕
It's much the same here in the U.K continental artists are rarely heard as were the west coast bands of the seventies such a shame that they were overlooked in favour of the domestic artists so many very talented people ignored
Hello Leeland 👋😁
You worked with Sib Hashian correct? Or am I thinking of someone else. (He was the drummer for Boston the band)
Wow. Just Wow!
Yes she is Faith Hill for Belgium.
Lara - Adagio. ‘Nuff said...
God bless you, Leland!
What a Roll call that was.!!! 😎
Very Good🎶🎶
She sounds very different ( !!!) in that song.
Some may be interested to know that she lost her hearing completely in 2013.
«... was very violent, I took 1,000 hertz in my ears and I fell on the floor, forced me to suspend the tour.». During a sound check for a French television show, the sound technician turned on her microphone without checking the volume. There was an enormous feedback in her in-ear monitors (I despise those) that almost 'killed' her. She lost her hearing completely for over a year, doctors refused to let her travel on planes, and she had to cancel the tour she was supposed to embark on. Tragic. There seemed to be no cure. Headaches, etc. She never lost confidence though that she could recover. She has since healed almost completely (through an arduous spiritual journey...
Great! more chair samples!!!
Morning-Afternoon Leland
Lara (and not Laura) has learned recently that she had sold 32 millions. She did not seem to know.... Strange, especially considering she writes her songs (in collaboration at times) or does few cover of songs popularized by other artists. I estimate that her rendition, 'live' in early 2000, of "Je suis Malade" has been watched over 65 millions times (no less !) on RUclips. Her sensitivity, musicality, and intensity (!) are most obvious, glorious even, when she sings in French or Italian (also in Russian). In English, I can recommend listening to her spectacular rendition of "Papa, can you hear me" & "Piece of Sky"" from Yentl (Barbra Streisand), and of course, of her own song called "Broken Vow". Allow me to post this (she was 27 in 1997) : ruclips.net/video/gFyFDjnz43Y/видео.html
I heard a young girl on The Voice sing "Je Suis Malade" several months ago and went to find who she patterned herself after and found Lara. Her rendition is fabulous.
@@MelissaThompson432 Thanks for your observation. I've known Lara since she started her career in Montreal. She is not only a singer like most, but a performer (and that explains why critics in France were continually mean to her until recently). Also, I've seen (young) singers sing with her or in front of her some of the songs she has written or made her own... Not recommended ! Painful... You don't sing Lara in front of her or with her, the gap in artistry is too wide... By the way, you can watch numerous vocal coaches commenting... There has been much consistency in her singing and interpretation. She has taken directions throughout her career that made her sing in ways, here and there, I am not fond of, but overall, I can only admire her profoundly.
@@fredericlinden I see what you mean. The contestant I refer to was very young at the time, and quite good. It seemed an odd song for a preteen to sing, but she had obviously been working hard at her craft for some time. The song captivated me. I don't speak French, but "I'm sick" was easy enough to pick out. It took me on quite a journey, musically....
*Emma Cerchi is the child.
@@MelissaThompson432 I have suggested a few links to another commentator, if that interests you. Incidentally, I connected with a gifted female singer on Facebook, and eventually shared links... Never heard back from her :)))
@@MelissaThompson432 I just listened... Emma certainly has given it her all ! With guidance - and as long that the desire to sing comes from her, and not her parents, she can become amazing
Tremendous post Leland. An exceptional power balladeer I think. A mix of Faith Hill, as you said and Lee Anne Rimes.
Excited to see IF live when the covid dust sttles. Hopefully in the UK somewhat later in 2022.
Ever have any meet ups with Derek Trucks?
Yes and he and Susan are in my book.
Love it! Thank u!!!!!
Lara Fabian certainly has a powerful voice however I’m looking forward to watching you play along with your recordings. Maybe you could play along with the latest Immediate Family tracks combining practice and posts at the same time.
Are those notes copious?
bless
Greetings Lee. As you already know, your musical history covers several styles Noting the same, have you ever worked with Dan Fogelberg in your past? Tried googling the same but did not see much data...
Dan was a friend and I played with him. Can’t remember if I ever recorded though.
👍
I have a question about your charts. Are they mainly chord charts or actual notes the artist wants you to play. Just curious. Thanks for turning us on to so many artists we, in the US, are not aware of. My wife is from the Philippines and has told me of a few artists she grew up that I had never heard of. The bass player and the drummer are the soul of a band. All the other players are extras. Haha. Boy, she can sure hold a note forever. Thanks
Brooks Wackerman (Chad’s obviously younger brother) on drums.
And there is a difference between “respect” and adulation.
I liked.
Hi Leland - more from LARA with links: Lara Fabian is a Canadian citizen of Belgium birth and is of franco/Italian cultural heritage. Lara spent a decade in a conservatory studying piano, composition and voice. She describes herself as a songwriter/singer who has sold over 20 million records and plays to sold-out venues worldwide. She lives in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, with her husband and daughter. A “50 at 50” - 50 live performances celebrating her 50th birthday had to be cancelled due to COVID-19, but will be rescheduled.
