      I think the Indian motorcycle was a reproduction, but possibly a reproduction made in the 1980s/1990s. The back seemed too "clean" to be an original. I looked for a copyright date on it and couldn't find one, so I could be wrong. Regardless, it was a great find! Hope that you had a nice weekend, whether fixing a radio or making sure that Dickel is behaving!

    I do clean outs after a estate sale has been had and because of that reason I always charge and this is around Atlanta were clean outs are big business , also it is much more of a challenge to give the leftovers to a thrift store as the thrift stores are very picky here about what they will take.Thank you for the great content .

    • @PaperandMoose

      Good point on the thrift shops, which I forgot to mention. In my area, there are times when the thrift will go through every box that you are looking to donate, and they will turn down many things. Our Habitat for Humanity Restore also has strict rules about what they will/won't take.

    I think that anyone who has had to clean out a family estate would most likely understand exactly what you are saying. My mother passed in 2013. My father in 2020. As their child, I thought I had a solid sense of what was there. But to my surprise, it was quite interesting. I did this clean out myself. You filter through. You have the trash pile, the donation, the valuable pile and the sellable pile. You frequently make trips to offload. It's an interesting experience.

    Hi - the video from the basement is great. I know it's not your kind of stuff, but that was a terrific trunk (another brass lock!) . . . that old bike was fab, as was the chrome & formica table I think I saw, plus the Edison records, the car parts, the crock and a lot of other things. I hope most survived the mold, wet & bugs. Thanks also for the insight on the business end. Odd how so many different kinds of businesses boil down to, "Be kind, be fair, do what you say, be on time, charge what you quoted, no surprises, work hard, do quality work." I've no doubt that's how Tony built his business - and I've no doubt the you wouldn't with any other sort of person. You're right - certain shops, certain booths in shops, certain flea market vendors, certain estate sale companies, certain online vendors - if I've ever received the impression that they are not being acting in good faith, then I'm done with them. Being associated with Tony is going to be great for you and TS in the long run, as it has been in the near term. If he ever can't take a job, or decides to retire to the Islands, you'll get the call. BTW, you have earned the right to speak as an authority on these topics - and anyone who thinks there is one right way to do this should probably do something else. I learned several things from listening that I hadn't thought about, and your point that, "It depends ... " conveys a lot of experience & consideration. Have a great Sunday afternoon!

    • @PaperandMoose
      @PaperandMoose  Год назад +3

      I'll have to inquire as to what island Tony would like to retire to! Haha. The tables, the tables... I love those tables and one would think they would be an easy sell, but nope. We had a nice set from another job, I think it might have even been that great retro red color, and I think it took months for it to sell at the flea market. By that time, Tony was tired of it taking up space in the van, so he sold it for a big discount. It could be this area though, the market might have been saturated or that style isn't "in" right now. I wish the clothing in the trunk wouldn't have been scrap pieces, but they will still get bagged up and taken to the flea market for someone to work into their projects! Hope your vacation is treating you well!

      The yuckiest dead critter I found in all of our cleanouts so far was probably the rat at the eviction house. The worst smell, hands down, were the fermented hot dogs. Awesome and very educational vid. "Edison did this on purpose". Great explanation of the thickness of old Edison records, thanks to Tony for that. My find of the day was the old bicycle which could be a little gold mine. A friend is in the cleanout business for a couple of years, and she told me that something has changed during the past 20/25 years. Until the turn of the century, most houses or apartments were left more or less proper and clean. Since then, she met more and more locations dirty, moldy and messielike. She thinks that this happens due to a growing number of single households. More and more folks living alone just don´t care if their rooms are clean or dirty.
    Anyways, thanks for your very interesting explanations, Renée, and have a very sunny Sunday afternoon and a fantastic forthcoming 4th of July ! 🧨🎇Greets from GER, U.

    • @PaperandMoose
      @PaperandMoose  Год назад +4

      Your friend has a good point! It also can be stated that many get to a point where even if they wanted to clean things up or organize, it is so overwhelming that it doesn't happen. Just add it to the pile in the attic or basement, no one ever goes up there! We looked up some of the bike parts hanging from the ceiling and to our surprise, our favorite ones that had that "look" only brought in $30-$40 online. Shockingly, the reproductions of those same parts sold for more money. I guess if people are going to have a functioning "vintage" bike, they would rather spend more money on reproduction parts so that if there is wear & tear, it's not damaging an already older, perhaps slightly damaged, piece. We have a buyer for all of the bicycle parts and pieces already, it's just a matter of our schedules meshing so they can pick up everything in one trip. Put my air conditioner in today, so I assume that summer is officially here now. At least it makes it not so hot when working!

    Hello Renee. I think you said it spot on, clean outs are a lot of work and it’s not for everyone. Other people who do them only show how much they find that make money and they don’t show how much work they actually do. It’s a hard job. But it is fun especially when you have the right people with you, and you can joke and laugh at the work. And the donations part isn’t easy either. Places don’t except everything. They to have to be selective with what they take. I mean if people are thinking ok I’ll do this make loads of money and it will be easier then other ways of making a living, it can be for some but not everyone, if your not willing to work hard and get things done in the time you have your not going to be able to make it work for you. Great video Renee people need to know about this. Take care I hope your weekend has been great. 🕵🏼‍♀️🕵🏼‍♀️🕵🏼‍♀️🕵🏼‍♀️🕵🏼‍♀️🕵🏼‍♀️🫖☕️🫖☕️🥰🥰🥰💯💯💯💯💯💯

    He was a little puzzled as to why
    I told him I believe people like to live vicariously through them
    I know more then a few people that do clean outs…Not for me, to much work for the money you make I think.
    I’ve been buying and selling “junk”around 30 years now
    I don’t want to buy truck loads just to get the good stuff, I rather have others do the hard work and buy it from them at the flea market or auction.
    Most of what I buy to sell many people are not to educated as to what they are worth, so with minimal work I can get enough to make good money. That’s my business plan! 😃

      Cleanouts can be a gamble, especially in regards to monies received for the work. It can be easy to become excited at first glance by all of the items and the "unknowns". Once you start to uncover things and then see what isn't sellable, what's going to have to be hauled out to a dumpster, it is easy to question if it is worth it. But every so often, you find that one little item tucked away in a corner or shoved underneath a pile of stuff and it makes the cleanout great!

    The groundwork for a clean-out: Imagine a poor soul who is perhaps infirm or held back by illness or aged health issues. Then, know that attics & basements are where broken or seldom used home-goods go to their "retirement". Now think, attics are hot, dry and roofs can leak, cellars are damp, can breed mold & flood. Why, they're perfect locations for a pick. Btw, remember the former occupant was unable to clean much, so dust and built up dirt also occupy the living areas.
    Renee, did I get it right? it requires a kind and special person to perform thoughtful clean-out services (which are so necessary). Thank You, God bless 💖🙏👑✝

    I have had an estate sale business for over 30 years. Like the clean out jobs every estate is different. Some estate sales are more of clean out jobs. Others are packed with collectibles and antiques. Some sales the clients wish to be present from beginning to the end. Some clients come in the dead of night with a U Haul truck and remove everything of any value. I have a contract that both myself and my client sign. I charge a percentage of the sale total. I pay for the ads and my help. Sometimes the first words out my mouth are I NEED A DUMPSTER. Setting up estates or doing clean outs is not glamorous work. It’s filthy dirty exhausting work. You rarely sell all the items. And then you have to deal with the leftovers. Pricing for estate sales and for eBay You can’t price to low and you can’t price to high. Having said that you can’t please everyone.
    Keep up your excellent work. You are appreciated.

    Yep, I know a bit how the business works, as I was a part of a cleanout team, with my buddy Vic. We did several of these in the early 90s. We netted some neat items...I still have several of these in my collection! Ah, Diamond Discs...I have a collection of these early micro-groove discs and the phonographs to play them on...the fidelity was very advanced for the time...the drawback was the music selection and artists. Edison did not want to contract top drawing artists, such as Victor, Brunswick, or Columbia did. Edison stopped making and marketing records in 1929. The last radio/phonos were sold in the early 30s. You are so right on...we had some doozies, as well as two outstanding estates! we did run across a couple of mummified cats...and scores of mice! In one, I found an album of Civil War era photos...the owner of the estate was in tears when I gave it to her...two of her relatives were in them!

    I go to a lot of estate sales and network and it appears to me these people have their list of references they call and its very hard for new people to enter that already established network....the case for a lot of industries.
    Recently was told by a dealer it also varies by individual client. Tried to get in one where they said the person died and had it in their will that all leftover be donated.

    the Edison disc record's are "hill and dale",or vertically recorded the needle goes up and down a Victor record is lateral (back and forth) ....a Stereo LP is both the paper labeled records are later. Edison wasn't a jazz fan too the jazz ones are more desirable keep and research any with numbers above 51000 as some of these were electrically recorded and sound great also since you are in the NJ area you might find unique one offs

    Don't forget about the free sections of Craigslist and Facebook. Anything that isn't worth your time to try to sell, but that others might find useful (such as old wood) can be given away to anyone who wants to come pick it up. When I moved out of my last house, I had a bunch of old broken "projects" (furniture, etc). I didn't want to take them with me or pay to store them so I listed them for free on Craigslist rather than set them out at the curb, and people wanted them. Old magazines, dishes, etc can be given away.

    You'd also have to have a pretty big storage area for all the stuff you take out. That isn't cheap either.

    • @PaperandMoose
      @PaperandMoose  Год назад +1

      The longest time it took for us to do a house cleanout was probably 3 months. That's because the home was about a 2.5 hour drive away & we could only be there about 2-3 days a week due to the scheduling of the home owner. We actually would stay overnight at the house because of the far drive.

    • @PaperandMoose
      @PaperandMoose  Год назад

      I didn't state I don't share my eBay because of getting sued. I don't share my eBay because I do not want any other reseller basing what they decide to sell off of what I am able to sell. I see far too many comments on other channels of viewers asking why a RUclipsr is able to sell something for double/triple the price while a viewer has had that exact same item in their eBay store for months and no one has purchased it. I'd rather avoid that situation. I have an Etsy shop that I share, that's good enough for me.

  • @lmp8932
    @lmp8932 Год назад

    I can't see why you wouldn't (Taco too) put your Ebay store in your info - surely the exposure to RUclips would increase your sales!! Selling an item on Ebay - regardless of how you got it - providing it's not illegal (Ebay would take its down anyway) - doesn't make you liable for what the buyer does with it. I don't understand why you wouldn't take advantage of selling to all of your subscribers.

    • @PaperandMoose
      @PaperandMoose  Год назад +3

      I wasn't discussing liability for what a buyer does with an item purchased on eBay. I was discussing being held accountable for people trying to mimic what and how I sell on eBay. I see far too many comments on other resellers' channels asking how they can sell items so quickly & for so much money when a viewer has had that same item sitting in their eBay shop for a lower cost and for a longer time. Whatnot is another prime example - too many state how "easy" it is to sell anything & everything on Whatnot and so resellers that aren't fortunate to have a social media following end up attempting a Whatnot sale only to be selling things for a few dollars when they are worth more, because they do not have the following to draw in a watching crowd.
