- It's that time! Honestly, I am shocked at how quickly this plant has grown. In a year in a half I have now chopped this plant twice. The top leaves are growing larger and I'm so excited how it turned out!

I'm glad you video your chops, it's really helpful for me to watch how you do it with your different poles! Thank you!
Thank you! Glad it was helpful! ☺️
Melissa, you are such a good step by step teacher on your videos. I will definitely look up these when I'm at this point. Thank you
Thank you so much 🥺
I can tell you were a nurse, your precision in your chops is too be admired. You have definitely given me the confidence to chop my plants a couple of times. Mine grow much slower thankfully, but I have really began to size up some leaves so far, so thanks for all your guidance.
Thank you! 🙏
I’m waiting on my baby splendid to arrive in the mail. I hope I can grow it out like yours. Thanks for the video
That was a genius cutting little windows in the moss pole to push the roots through. I'll have to do that with some of my poles.
It made it easier to add the roots in for sure!
Another example of a highly educational video loaded with practical information for us mortal viewers. I have a philodendron that has grown very tall so this video will help me decide how to manage it in the near future. You have some impressively huge and beautiful plants, that’s for sure and this is certainly a good example. If they get much bigger you could build a treehouse, or better named planthouse. Great video and before I forget I respect your careful and thoughtful approach to your projects. Thanks.
hello againnn💖 hope you have a good day !🤍🤍🪴
Thank you! Same to you 💖🫶🏻
Ack! I was a nervous wreck watching you do that! Very interesting. One day when my plant babies grow up, I'll do the same thing ;)
Love your voice it's so relaxing. And your videos are great.
BUT, there's a much easier and less stressful way for you and the plant to chop and extend.....
You chop the pole in half like you did, then place both poles beside each other and zip tie them add the stake again at the back and when you extend you put the top moss pole in between those two poles in top in the middle and then both vines will continue to climb the one extended pole, voila you have both vines on the one pole with any messing around with any of the root system.
Then when you chop the top part you have 2 bottom sections to grow out or sell on :)
Thank you and I totally get that and it has been brought up a few times before I just don't want to do it that way :)
Love your channel...no drama..simple...unlike other channel...they have to talk about their life in which it should be private...❤❤❤
Splendid is gorgeous 😍
I just got myself a small plant of it and I’m very excited to grow it out.
You’ll love growing one! It’s an amazing plant 🥰
Thanks for sharing this experience with us... very good video 💐👏😊
As a new viewer who hasn’t had the chance to see the older chops, it’s nice to see the whole process like this. Very informative! The window cuts for the roots was easy to understand. She lookin’ sooooo pretty in her spot! Also, loving the cat cameos as always❤
Thank you so much! 🥺
Love you Luna, Star and Chai 💋🤗
I'm impressed too that you can ziptie the pole one-handed. I needed both hands and my teeth when I tried to do that😂
haha 😂
Amazing Melissa 👏... I just learned so much about Chop and Extend + Add/Viens from this Video!!🎉❤😊... Love your Content/Channel and advice, keep up the Awesome work!😃👍💚🪴
❤❤Home sweet home...she looks beautiful ❤️❤
Thank you so much 😊
Relevant video for me! I have a young Splendid I'm training up a mosspole and it's helpful seeing the nitty gritty of how chop and extend actually works in practice. Like seeing the status of the roots at each node when the moss is pulled away.
Glad I can share :) I think since I chopped mine 4 months ago each node didn't have much time to root yet. The first chop tends to have a lot more roots inside!
What a genius idea I wouldn’t have thought of that 😊
Great video Melissa. I’m mesmerized by watching you do these poles and how to chop them. I m fairly new with experiencing poles but you make it seem really easy! ThankYou for sharing! ❤
You are so welcome!
Awww, I get how you feel right before making a cut. Sometimes I feel like fainting 😅. Great job with this chop and extend btw 👏, I wanted to give you a hand holding the pole for you as I was watching 😆💚.
aww thank you! It's hard to chop them sometimes 🥹 I definitely felt like I needed more hands :)
That moment at .38 seconds 😂😂😂 the excitement is real! ❤❤ I love the way you explain step by step what you are doing and why! It’s so helpful.
I have a few unsolicited ideas that came to mind while watching you do this process! Lol
Have you ever thought about upsizing the pot and just planting the top in with the bottom, like 2 poles side by side?
Another option that I’ve seen someone do is make a plank style moss pole. It’s basically making the pole more flat than round so you have the width to play with and add multiple vines?
And lastly, an alternative to cutting windows in the wire could be to cut a strip of the wire from top to bottom where the roots go in, like parallel to the vine. Then you could just zip tie it to the front of a new pole! I’d imagine layering the wire would add stability to the pole too.
Ps. I don’t have any moss poles right now in my collection due to where we live, so these are all pure imagination for when I can finally have my own space for plants.
Nice, I like all your ideas😊
Nicely done Melissa! Hopefully, the bottom vine recovers well as it was cut at top & bottom.
This was so satisfying to watch lol what a good idea to make the little window, I love the way this turned out- absolutely beautiful!! I never cared much about getting a splendid before but it’s definitely on my wishlist now!!
Thanks so much! 😊 yes, it's a great philo!!
My goodness that looked like somuch work. Wow you have great patience. That would driveme nuts.
It's a lot of work 😅 I keep telling myself the end result is worth the hassle lol
Great step by step video. I love your editing. It’s very entertaining! 🤣
Thank you so much 😁
The Splendid is such a beautiful plant. It’s definitely on my wish list for 2024 💚💚💚
It looks great, great explaining about the windows ,and great idea 👍!
💚🌱☘️🌵💚
Thanks so much!
Mine has been sizing up and im slightly scared when I have to give it the first chop, but this helps so much. It's really so lovely
💚 so nice !!!
Thank you!!
I have been using the largest of my leca balls in the bottom of my mosspoles. Then I crimp the end before putting into the pot. Seems to be working good and less messy than trying to get soil in there.
I had no idea I wasn’t subscribed to your channel!!! What the heck?! lol I really love your videos.
Thank you! 🙏
Damn I need to get on my pole game!! my plain monstera has outgrown its stake & now it’s gonna start leanin over too ughh ty for the encouragement
That is so beautiful. Loved this video so informative 😊
Thank you so much!
Well done Melissa! Your Splendid looks indeed very SPLENDID now! 😹 I have to add poles to a few of my philos (Florida Ghost, Pink Princess, White Princess and White Wizard). You have definitely given me a little more motivation now but I'm going to use plastic poles instead of the wire ones cos we are having a lot of warm weather now🤭 All your poles are looking gorgeous!! So happy for you👏🏼🫶
Thank you Connie! 🫶
Learned allot
Beautiful plant great job good information on this video
Thank you! 🥰
HI Princess. Woooo! it is much but what you feel while doing it and after what you feel. I always feel at peace when I'm doing plants. I have one small syngonium variegated moss pole. It's Late Fall here in NYC now so the plant is more still than growing. I just have to watch it and water it as necessary. I'm in the process of Plastic sheeting all windows with plants now. Just am not about losing any plants during Cold Season. This is my 3rd yr doing the sheeting and have lost little to no plants. I want to increase my plantdom not keep replacing. I'm thinking if I caulk up all cracks, creases and holes around my windows will that replace me doing the sheeting and keep temps warmer around window as sheeting does. I will experiment.
Now I probably would have cut 2/3 of that Splen and then chopped that top part in 2 and planted that back into pot. But that's just my opinion. I can't see the exact situation of how you have the plant done. So you've done what you know and what works and that's cool. Job well done. I can never figure out why planters put any mind to the mess that is made. It's just a natural part of dealing with nature. See nature on the outside how messy the soil around is. So if we are dealing with nature in our homes to keep it growing in this more confined area, what would make us think we're going to perfect the mess around dealing with plants when nature itself doesn't even attempt to perfect its mess. I think the more we focus on the fun part of plants which is why we invest our time into it for fun, for comfort, for therapy, for aesthetics, for touching/connecting the Soul, we'll have way less stress when dealing with keeping our plants alive in this non-natural enviroment. Have fun with the plants, clean up the mess, move on to the next part of our day. What do you think? Most people, if not all watching plant videos know mess is involved with working with plants so no need to waste any brain time or mention of that. Well, that's what I think on that point. I've got to finish up my cold weather project so thank you and take care. JOHN 3:16-18
very nice
💚🌱💚🌱💚
oh my word she is stunning i might have to get me one ;)
Thank you!
Where do you get the wire from to make the pole ?
I get mine at ace hardware. I get the 3 x 5 feet
Do you let it callas over before putting it ?
Yes, I cut the vine first before taking the poles apart to give it some time to dry.
I wonder, is there even a point to adding soil in at this point? I mean apart from weighing it down
yeah, they don't really need the soil roots anymore once they root into the moss :/ Some roots will grow down to reach the soil eventually from upper nodes seeking that moisture but if I had a way to stand them up without a base I probably wouldn't pot them up.
@@plantsbymelissa Huh, I might experiment with using rocks to weigh it down then instead of soil or I've seen Sydney plant guy literally just hang the moss pole on a hook with no pot and works fine for him.
@@D0J0Masterrocks are a really good idea. Less moisture in the pot and more weight might be perfect.
