I just found your channel and so glad I did! I deeply resonate with your reasons. I also struggle with anxiety and depression. Being outside on my own piece of land, knowing it's my dirt to manipulate, the freedom to grow what I want. It's so helpful. And planting your feet in the soil brings in positive energy that is naturally within our Earth. We become closer to our creator and deepen our appreciation for all the abundance. You are wonderful. Hugs from southern Illinois ❤️

I love how proactive you are with combating your struggles and sharing your solutions. It seems to be work and gratitude are big factors for mental health, especially as it seems to be an epidemic. I hardly know anyone that doesn't have something, but it also seems to be largely a first world problem so it's interesting to study and learn more about.

There are kids that move out of the house without even knowing how to change a light bulb. Once a well prepared kid that was forced to learn these skills encounters such unprepared youths, they will start to appreciate being taught these skills.

I think eating the food we grow ourselves literally binds us to a place, and to a time.
I had an intestinal dissection at the worst point of a serious illness and barely survived. I was unable to digest anything at all and gradually healed by making my own kefir and sauerkraut. I worked my way up to finally moving to a more rural location where I can plant my first garden in 30 years. It is an amazing thing. Very important to realize on a daily basis that God provides the “magic” within seeds and it takes so little to cooperate with Him and feed ourselves.
Those are some gorgeous snap peas!! Blessings to you and your family.

I can relate! I have a digestive issue as well. It was bad enough that I was about to be hospitalized. They finial found out that I have ulcerative colitis. I had to go on some very nasty drugs to get it under control. I’ve always eaten healthyish but I’m trying to eat much better now. I eat cortido or sauerkraut with breakfast in the morning. It has made a HUGE difference! I also love my garden and my grapes. Much can be learned tending the garden and grapes. If the vine doesn’t bear fruit, it is cut off. If a practice isn’t bearing good fruit in my life, I need to cut it off.

Oh wow, thankyou for sharing with all of us! I am convinced that this will bless many helping them in similar struggles. You are definitely a big source of encouragement to me as I try to learn gardening in a for me new environment (having moved from cold Germany to subtropical India). Just this week I harvested curcumin - enough for a year's cooking plus to give to friends. So slowly I move towards self sufficiency - taking you as an example to work hard and consistently as it pays out. This is what I learn frok your videos. And what you share about the joy and well being you find from being out there daily and getting our hands dirty with black gold - I know exactly what you mean as I feel the effects on my body and soul very strongly, too. Keep it up! Keep enjoying the garden work, keep laughing as you do, and please keep posting videos - your channel such a blessing!

Fyi. You should try freezing without blanching or pre freezing. With green beans I wash (can skip the washing step if not dirty) let air dry put in freezer bags and make sure air is all sucked out they do not become mushy or stick together. Probably would work with peas to. Saves you time and work.

This video touched me to my core. You are so unaffectedly beautiful and the picture of good health. No one would ever suspect that you had been so sick. I’m so happy that this gardening brings you such peace and joy which you pass on to the rest of us with each video. I’m old enough to be your mother…or maybe even your grandmother. We live in the Washington DC suburbs and, although I don’t garden, I can, freeze, dehydrate, and make nearly everything my family eats from scratch. I feel a similar joy each time my family (from my 102 year old aunt to my 23 year old granddaughter) chows down on food I have so carefully made for them. It makes me so happy. Keep up the good work!

I am looking at all the equipment you have for preserving food & the only thing that I have so far that you have, is a cooker (you call it a stove over there I think). Preserving food is not a thing on this side of the Atlantic, but it should be. It makes total sense. Apart from the economics of it, preserving food for the winter is the perfect & logical way to avoid nasty processed alternatives.

Although you had MANY other reasons to grow such a wonderful garden, I really felt you when the first thing you said was it brings you JOY! There are so many unforeseen challenges, even heartbreak when a crop fails for whatever reason, that the SUCCESS of growing is that much more JOYFUL! Thanks for sharing your reasons. I, thankfully, still have my mother (in her 70s, and STILL an avid gardener) to walk me through planting, suggest solutions to my issues, and simply appreciate my efforts. So, honestly, an added reason for my love of gardening is the connection to my mom & sister. We routinely show off what’s growing, how well or not-so-well a certain crop is doing in each of our gardens. None of us attempt nearly the scale of what you grow! I tip my hat to your hard work!!

I find peace in my garden and every moment, every weed and all I can learn and do on my own gives me power to face tomorrow. No matter what is going on in the world, this power to grow things, the peace in my garden is just one of the gifts from God I can feel every day. It may be hot, the weeds can grow faster than I can pull them, but in the end I can still grow my food, my way. The singing birds and buzzing bees keep me company and I can feel the presents of God near me, just like the sun shining on me shoulders. Life is good!

First of all thank you so much for sharing and you're an inspiration. It took me over 10 years to tell people that I had lupus. I did not want anyone feeling bad for me or treating me any different. I didn't want limitations put on me and I didn't want anyone feeling sorry for me. Plus I was very angry scared and confused as to why me and oh my God am I going to die soon. And I will tell you this I have struggled with severe depression and anxiety. I've tried a lot of things I'm a big outdoor person but I have to be careful to being in the sun with lupus. But I was severely exhausted and in a lot of pain during my monthly cycle. And my emotions were very erratic meaning sad upset and angry for no reason at all. And if there was a reason it was more dramatic than it needed to be. My memory was crazy and I was very confused in my thought processes and I had a hard time talking without stuttering. My anxiety was just through the roof and I hibernated I didn't want to talk to anybody I didn't want to be around anybody so I saw specialist who's an endocrinologist in women's health. We discussed how irregular my menstrual cycles were and how my body reacted before during and after. And so he came up with a solution because I don't do well with birth control at all my body just is so emotional and it's awful. So he gave me a shot called lupron and insurance companies only cover it fully if you have heavy menstrual cycles or severe cramps. And because I have such high pain tolerance the severe cramping could have been severe but it was normal for me anyhow it is changed my life completely. I'm calmer I handle situations much better I don't worry about things as much and my body does not hurt as much either. I also started singing acupuncturist and that has done wonders for me as well.

I am really enjoying your videos, and just wanted to say so! I live in England and stumbled across your channel as I wanted to learn more about gardening. I am such a beginner, but your videos have really inspired me, and I just enjoy how much you work with your husband as a team, with your small army of helpers! (I am sure that they enjoy the taste-testing at harvest :) Thank you for sharing these.. I went to the very first video, and have been watching them in order for the full effect, but it is hard to just watch one at a time. Also, on another note, as the climate is so very different here in England, and we have so much rain, I have to think how to adapt things, as I see your area is pretty dry, and it looks as though the mulch works to keep the earth at the right moisture levels, i.e. not too wet or too dry? Anyway, a big hearty thank you - I can't wait for more updates. You are a true Proverbs 31 wife.

This is the smartest thing you can do for the health of your family. No GMO's, no pesticides. Saving a ton of money at grocery stores. Longevity. And since our country has become so dependent upon imports from other countries, leaving selves empty and driving up food prices like never before, you can thank God who blesses your family abundantly, for the gift. There's no reason why more and more families shouldn't be moving in the same direction.

Thank You for sharing your feelings and teaching your skills! I recently was canning sweet peppers with my 13-years-old daughter. She suddenly asked me "Will I ever find a boyfriend able to do all the things you do for us?" It filled my heart with joy.

Your videos are very unique. I really like just seeing you do the work without any fancy narration or lots of obvious pre-filming set-up. There are some pieces of the process that we miss when just reading a recipe or watching a tutorial (like dragging saw horses out to the yard for a makeshift table to be used in preparing sweet peas 😆) Thank for being so real!!

U are so right on everything! Depression and all sort of mental issues is probably vitamins deficiency . Soil is depleted of a lot of minerals we need plus sugar and carbs poisoning on a top of that. Research how mental diseases get clean up in no time with vitamins therapy, low carb diet and fasting

i struggle with the same things. the preservatives would upset my stomach on my regular basis along with the foods which were triggers. i currently cook everything from scratch and do not buy bottled or prepackaged foods. i have had to eliminate soy, seafood and beef along with some other small intolerances. just so much better for you in the long run to use scratch foods.

We would love to know how you look things up and prepare the garden for the next year and how homeschooling is done in your home. And how you came up with the style and aesthetic of your home. And how Eco is it? And I asked all of this cuz I'm just thoroughly interested in how people go about doing this stuff and it's a no drug zone with me and the people judge you girl they don't pay your bills

Wonderful video!!! I just started my first garden, it's super tiny but I'm very excited about it. I can't wait for my first harvest. Your reasons in the video warmed my heart, thank you!!! I'm also in zone 6b, great to see what I theoretically can grow, we'll see how green my thumb is.

I just found your channel and I enjoy it so much. I think if we lived closer, and had more time, we would be friends :) I made jam this year. But I didn't realize I had to water bath it. I sterilized the bottles and boiled the lids. And they all popped. Do you think they are still okay? This takes so much skill. I pray blessings on you and your lovely family. Thank you for sharing your gifts of knowledge and wisdom to others.
