Do Not Fix Blend Door Actuator on your 2009-2014 Ford F-150 Until You Watch This

  • The purpose of this video is to distinguish which blend door actuator is in your 2009-2014 Ford F-150.
There are two different types of climate control. As you can see in the video my F-150 climate control is manual. It’s electronic but manual. It does not have digital read out where you can control right side or left side air temperatures. This blend door is for hot to cold. And cold to hot. It is not for defrost or the vents, or the floor. That’s a different actuator. This video is for the blend door that controls hot and cold temperatures.
There are lots of videos out there that confuse people by stating that you do not need to take the center console out. It all depends.
This F-150 has a center console with the floor shift. The shift is not on the steering column. If you have F-150 with center console, it needs to come out in order to at the screws for the plastic trim. A lot of people wonder why you take the center console out. On this type of trucks you have to, unless you’ll break it.
The trucks with the column shift there is a clip on the plastic trim instead of the screw. It’s easy, you just pull it out.
Now let’s get back to climate control. This is the manual climate control. It only has one blend door actuator which goes right on the top HVAC box.
If you have F-150 that has dual climate control, it means you have a digital read out. You can adjust temperature separately on each side. That means that truck has two blend door actuators. One is gonna be on top of the HVAC box and the other one below.

My 2011 Ford f-150 has already been repaired twice in 3 years, now it's stuck again and clicking trying to open. I paid over 800 bucks each time because both mechanics told me they have to disassemble the whole front panel to get to it. and it takes 8 hours of labor to get to it. Are you saying since I have a column shifter that it's easy for me to undo a couple of clips and some screws and I can get to the actuator myself?

I have the separate driver and passenger climate controls, and I can assure you there are more than 2 blend door actuators. I've replaced 4 on my 2011 f-150. The 2 you pointed out, plus one near the blower motor on the passenger side, and another one almost directly up from the gas pedal.

To do that, you have to remove the actuator and while there makes know sense not to just replace it. There is no other way as everything is internal.

Thank You Brother.. I currently have this problem. I was riding one morning late spring of this year, I started my truck and let it warm up before I left the house. I got in the truck to leave and my ac was pumping hard and it was cool outside so I turned my temperature knob pretty fast towards warm and I guess it broke loose or something and was stuck in Full AC mode and now won’t blow warm air.. any idea how much it’ll cost me to get it fixed somewhere..?

    • @Motorcarnut

The actuator behind the radio controls the temperature of the whole system hot to cold, so if passenger side works fine then it’s the one on the bottom. It should have one, the full electronic climate control had three yours like mine had two.

You do NOT have to remove the console if you have the shifter on the console. All you need to do is pull or pry the panels on the Left and Right of the radio, navigation, etc slightly out so that the faceplate clips can be detached and you'll be able to pull the center face plate with no problem...

@@Motorcarnut lol, well you're actually putting little to no pressure at the bottom of those side panels. You're only pulling at the top and the middle, which have no screws. You're pulling just enough to get the center panels clips from under the lip of the side panels... Now if I were to apply pressure to the bottom, trying to pull them off, then yes, I would Crack them, but you honestly shouldn't damage anything doing it the way I stated.. It will save an enormous amount of time and effort.. I have this very truck and I removed that actuator with no problem whatsoever. On the back screw of the actuator, you need to drop the glove box open, reach in and remove that second screw accessing it from behind. I've seen video's where people are forcing a swivel ratchet on the far side, having to shave various parts to get the socket and ratchet to work, but coming in from behind simply requires a small 8mm wrench and you have it off with about 10 half turns.. I say half because there is obstruction with ventilation duct and wiring harness that will hinder you from making full rotation on that screw.
