Welcome back to the Foxhole 🦊🤘🍫 Nice to see you're back with more BM songs. This is their breakout hit in 2014, for better or worse, either you hated or loved it, this MV got the highest amount of views on their channel, and fans were enjoying this song every night at the recently finished World Tour, is a hit they don't wanna miss in almost every live performance, hopefully you'll get the chance to see them live, don't miss out the opportunity to feel this experience. Btw i remember watching an Italian fangirl with her mom going to the live show in Milan last month, hope you can watch that fun vlog although you might get spoilers of some songs. Dance choreography and metal has never seen before and an important part of this is thanks to Mikiko-Metal (aka Mikiko Mizuno) she's behind another famous Jpop group called Perfume and is very well respected sensei with her own group of dance Eleven Play, she was behind Olympic Games ceremony. And the mastermind behind this madness is KobaMetal. This MV isn't actually live version and not even with the usual Kami Band, is studio album version over a live performance which was partially live only on the vocals and choreography with backing track sound. Back in the day, before 2014 mainly, they used to have this backing band called "baby-bones" air playing instruments wearing this skeleton costumes, they didn't have the budget to afford a high level set of real musicians like they have now, so progressively since 2012 they incorporate the real band and leaving the baby-bones behind, they did a great job supporting the girls and giving a show, so shout-out to them for being part of BM story. This was in December 2013 at SuMetal 16th Birthday, the other girls had 14 yo and there was a big party you have seen nothing yet, wait for _"Babymetal Death"_ They're just singing about wanting to eat some chocolate but they worried about the weight just like any other regular girl, there's not so much hidden message behind, they used to have fun songs like these without so much deepness on the lyrics just to have fun and party, but the brutal contrast on this is remarkable, no doubt about it. See you in the mosh'sh pit means go watch Road Of Resistance live in Japan official but you already did it. Another suggestion to witness a turning point in their career outside of Japan: - Ijime Dame Zettai live at Sonisphere Festival 2014 official. Btw i saw you like jazz music, fan fact the Kami Band (the Japanese set of musicians during early years) are coming from jazz roots. Another fun fact if you like to know another song with a swing touch mixing with rock (not sure about metal) is the new song released this year by the subgroup called Metalverse (which is under BabyMetal same label and management, and also part of the latest lore), the song title is "Crazy J" and it's quite fun, there's a live proshot version at Summer Sonic in the official Summer Sonic iirc, so try it whenever you want, but again, they're not the same members of BM, only share some musicians from the Western Kami Band on stage. Thanks for sharing this and hope to see you next year with more BM songs.🦊🤘❤
Yay! Great reaction. This was the very first song I ever heard from Babymetal, and I was so confused it made me want to hear more...and into the Fox Hole, I go... haha. You'll find their music to be so varied, it's hard to "put them in a box". Here are a few suggestions to give you an idea: *1). Catch Me If You Can (Live, Budokan 2014):* Imagine Gimme Chocolate, but cuteness x10 and brutality x10. *2). iine! (Official Music Video):* Babymetal says NO to "transitions" in music, and YES to all the genres. *3). Rondo of Nightmare (Live, Budokan 2014):* Dark and heavy. Lead Su-metal solo, shows off her vocal prowess even as a 16-year-old and the Kami band shows off their skills. *4). BxMxC (Live is best, but MV is equally good):* Babymetal does something different. *5). Metali ft. Tom Morello (Official MV):* Newest release in Aug 2023. All grown up mid-20s Babymetal, but equally fun and energetic. Look forward to more! 🤘🦊
RUclips doesn't want you to know what I think as my comment keeps disappearing. Welcome back and great reaction again. You are absolutely right, they were originally destined to become JPop Idols but they took a left turn with the fusion of genres. 'Gimme Chocolate' is one of the songs that really emphasises the fusion with the Metal and Jpop pretty much clashing rather than being blended as they are in other songs. You were also right to say this is genius ... it is original, innovative and unique. Nobody does what BABYMETAL do (some have tried, none came close yet). You were given a lot of good suggestions for more songs last time - pick any of them, you will find it very difficult to find two songs alike - but every song will still be recognisably BABYMETAL.
⚡ 💀 💕 / 🍫 💝 They have been joined on stage for this song by members of Korn, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and DragonForce. Not all at the same time of course. : ) This whole concept of combining JPop music with metal could have been a disaster, but the quality of the singing, songwriting, choreography and staging take it to another level. 'Gimme Chocolate!!' is definitely one of their "poppier" tracks. Even so, that blast beat gets you. And the whole thing is about 10x heavier live. This is the studio track over the live 'Legend 1997' concert footage which celebrated the lead singer's 16th birthday. That was actually the world premiere of this song. Of course the choreography, etc. is already dialed in. This show started off with the "Baby Bones" guys in skeleton suits miming playing instruments, including this song, but the live Kami Band finished the show with a five song encore. 'Gimme Chocolate!!' was the first BABYMETAL song I ever heard. I was a fan by the time the first chorus ended.
Great reaction ❤ I reckon that you'll really enjoy the rest of their performances, since you are into idol groups. I'd suggest dive in to their history and lore too. The girls have grown and matured, you'll find their more recent music to have grown and evolved with them - you are in for a treat ❤🦊🤘
I've only been turned on to Babymetal in the last couple of months myself and I will only say that you are in for a wonderful journey. As you've no doubt gathered by even this early point they are known for their energetic live performances and I will only say that that energy really plays well in a reaction video. Nice work and your enthusiasm was much appreciated too!
They are definitely Japanese Idols. You are not wrong. Babymetal started as a sub unit of the Japanese Idol Group 'Sakura Gakuin'. Miku Kabuto of Band-Maid was also a Japanese Idol.
Hi from Ireland, enjoyed both reactions and nice to see someone new finding out about them. The two videos are when the just started, su only 16 I believe 17 at most. They gave a large list of songs, but everyone will tell you review the live ones, for more up to date babymetal as contrast try monochrome live at pia, I am sure your commenters will also suggest some great performances for you also
You have many more amazing babymetal songs to hear! This is my recommendation in order: Megitsune (the music video, not live. its a fan favorite), then Headbangerrr (Legend of 1997 apocalypse performance live) then PA PA YA ft. F.Hero live performance! then DEATH from this same concert as legend of 1997! That order will have you hooked. Hope to catch the next reaction!
Sugoi! Great reaction. You get it. This fusion of kawaii & heavy metal is indeed genius. Kudos to Koba-metal! This idea was a gamble. To think these girls formed BABYMETAL when they were just 10 and 11 years old is mind-blowing. Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto, oldest, lead singer) just turned 26 a week ago. Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) and Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) are currently 24. More BABYMETAL please! Arigatou! 🦊🤘 #notacult #kawaiimetal #metalAF
Just a note on the much beloved Yuimetal. Yui had her last performance in 2017. Leaving for undisclosed health reasons. The delighful Momometal has just been announced as the new third member of Babymetal in 2023. She has worked really hard for this part and seems to have pumped a huge amount of just great energy into her 'new' band. Looking forward to new reactions.
@robote7679 I've followed BABYMETAL for years, and we're both correct. They are such a fun and unique group. Hope you continue your journey with them! Arigatou! 🦊🤘
Thanks for this reaction, yes, Babymetal melds opposites in new and interesting ways. Please react to some of the more serious songs: BABYMETAL | Rondo of Nightmare (w/ Mischiefs of Metal Gods Intro) | LIVE at Budokan Black Night or different singing style: BABYMETAL // BxMxC
Let me introduce you to the Godmothers of modern Female J-Metal. While Female bands have been around since the 1980s From 1990 on wards there were none that were able to break through and become popular and successful in 2008 Aldious formed, started their own label because no one was interested in recording female bands. The release "Dear Slave" as an EP and sold out almost immediately earni the #7 spot of the Indie Chart in Japan. They then put out a full album which also charted. This song was released as a single, became a massive hit and was pick up as the theme song to a TV show popping them into the spot light. ruclips.net/video/J3ymgzmBFns/видео.html All female metal bands -including BabyMetal owe them. If they didn't break through none of the other female bands would ever gotten noticed.
I'm not sure it was the exact same live performance you are referring to, but I already reacted to Road Of Resistance! Here's the link to the video: ruclips.net/video/-XPpB7bHs_c/видео.htmlsi=4p2AeuBahUnP1bZr
Gimme Chocolate is Babymetal's most famous (or infamous depending on who you ask) song. This was the video that went viral in 2014 and made them famous around the world and opened all kinds of door to start performing at metal festivals and building an audience in the west. Babymetal is absolutely rooted in the idol music culture; their management company Amuse is responsible for producing many idol actions. They began as a sub unit of the teen idol group Sakura Gakuin (Cherry Blossom Academy), which was an idol group for girls aged 10-15 themed around school live and after school club activities. Babymetal was created as the Juonbu (Heavy Music Club) sub unit. Sakura Gakuin had a rule that when a member of the group reached the age of 15, they had to graduate and leave the group at the end of the year, and new younger members would join as older members left. Su-metal graduated from SG in 2013, so when she left, Babymetal was spun off from SG as an independent act (although Yui and Moa remained in SG as well as performing with Babymetal until 2015 when they graduated). They have been performing as an independent act for ten years now, while the final Sakura Gakuin class graduated in 2021 and the group disbanded. The idea of blending idol and metal was thought up by Babymetal's producer/manager Kobametal (Key Kobayashi), who wanted revitalize interest in metal music in Japan and thought that combining idol with metal would be a good way to make it approachable to new audiences and to get attention. The idea really took shape when he saw lead vocalist Su-metal singing in her previous idol group Karen Girls as a twelve year old, and thought that her powerful voice and unique stage presence would be perfect for fronting his idol metal group.
Or if you want to listen to one of their old songs, the official music video for Doki Doki Morning really shows how much they've grown since starting out.

They absolutely are J-Pop idols as Babymetal was originally just a gimmicky add-on to an existing J-Pop band called Sakura Gakuin. It took off so well that Babymetal soon split off and has since outlived SG with no sign of slowing down. You have a lot of great songs to discover.
