  • On May 21st, 2024 I had a close encounter with a tornado that would go on to devastate the town of Greenfield Iowa. I made a miscalculation when the storm I was chasing cycled closer to me, I'm lucky to be alive.

    This video was captured just a few minutes before the tornado devastated much of Greenfield, Iowa. I was completely unaware the storm had cycled much closer to me due to some issues with my radar and my electronic maps not working/ being delayed. I only noticed it when the tornado came out of the rain and moved out of my blind spot and within sight of my rear view mirror. It was an unfortunate set of circumstances amplified by a stupid overly aggressive chase style. Definitely going to be backing off a little bit more going forward with fast moving storms such as this one. My deepest condolences go out to those that were impacted by these tornadoes.

      That's why Reed said you have to give space to these fast moving setups cause you are just gonna be racing against these tornadoes. Both Carbon and Greenfield tornadoes were scary fast.

    Such a good chaser he had no idea an EF4 was hot on his heals 🤦‍♂️. Also swerving all over the road while look at the sky, camera, phone, and computer is why I don't chase anymore. I'm surprised we don't have chasers get killed every outbreak

    Not seeing a rain-wrapped tornado is one thing but holy SMOKES dude, what is going on with this driving?? You were in the opposite lane more than your own. Do better my friend, there are lots of us out there on the road with you!

    • @celtonhenderson2
      @celtonhenderson2  3 месяца назад +1

      Part of it was intentional in an effort to avoid hydroplaning, and combat the extremely fast winds coming from the northeast that were trying to blow me off the road. I knew there were no other cars around (and was checking every few seconds), otherwise I wouldn't have been doing that/ I don't normally drive like this while chasing. I was looking in my rear view mirror and turning my head to look behind me, hence the swerving. Not really a good excuse but its what was going on. I'm currently working on a full video about this chase where a lot of what happens during this clip will make a lot more sense.

      No I can’t view that rear dash until I pull it up on my laptop later, the tornado was also right in my cars blind spot when it came out if the rain so I couldn’t tell what it even was until it passed in sight of my rear view mirror. Truly terrifying.

    • @angrydragon4574

      I think this was it. That's an EF-5 by my book and even the car damage IMO confirms this.

      @@angrydragon4574 yeah the same tornado bent well anchored bolts and slabed houses The national weather service has done this twice in 2024. They’re probably were two tornadoes with 200 mph plus winds even with some damage indicators of EF five but yet it didn’t get rated it. That’s why I think there needs to be an upgrade to the EF scale itself

      @@jonasvalero I've been around very strong winds, and at worst they nudge a tire into the other lane. Dude camped out on the wrong side of the road for multiple seconds. This wasn't wind pushing him into the opposite lane.

      Jacob. You don't know that for sure. The roads were also with wet well.
      And if I'm trying to get away from something like that tornado coming up on my butt I'm not going to give a damn how I drive.
      I was in one about 6 years ago up in Nebraska Jacob and I was about 500 yards back of a semi when a little tornado came across the highway and took that sucker over like it was a toy.
      So if you ever run into anything that's was estimated at about 200 mph Plus without throwing winds like you would not believe please let us know how well you drive..
      If you survive.

    • @JacobHernandez
      @JacobHernandez 3 месяца назад +5

      @@navblue20 again, he's not hydroplaning into the other lane, he sits there for like 10 seconds for absolutely no reason.
      And by the way, I literally have a video on my channel of me escaping a potentially violent tornado in Iowa, and the worst thing I do I barely get on the rumble strips of the shoulder, which I immediately correct. So there is actual evidence of me betting a better driver in these conditions than him.
      Also why are people defending this behavior? Dude is driving bad and should be called out for it so he can do better next time.
