I have two Ned setups on the kayak at all times. One Finesse TRD on a Mule (Ethan's product) 1/32, and the other with a Big TRD on a 1/16 Mule. I kayak river fish about 98% of the time, and current and positioning related to the target dictate what and where I throw. The only difference on my decision boils down to eliminating hang-ups whenever possible. Both the Finesse and Big TRDs have produced absolute monsters.
Ned rig is definitely one of my favorite baits for the fall. Or any time of year. It just catches fish and that’s all you need to make a day a good one.
At 16:46 , I might be catching up to you, bud! But it's your own fault. You put me through the paces. The Ned is SOOOO productive in Mid-Atlantic rivers for Smallies, and not just the dinks. I've got several 18-19" river Smallies in the books on both the Finesse and Big TRDs with 1/32 and 1/16 Mules, respectively. I can never thank you enough for your guidance, generosity and friendship. You are a stand-up dude (just like a Finesse TRD on a Mule jig). 😎
One of the huge bonuses of fishing the Ned is that you really get to know the water you are fishing, particularly on rivers. On light gear, you get to know the under-water terrain that you'd never know when fishing cranks, jerks, top-water or even heavier jig setups. Most of my success in rivers during my short bass fishing history has come from a long-term deep-dive into the Ned (thanks to you). A certain understanding of under-water terrain and fish behavior kinda clicks in the mind after a while. In the rare instances that it doesn't work (it's always my go-to), I know what to throw, based on current, depth and season. The method truly helps one to understand where the fish are and if/how they will hit. Once you have real experience with current (or lack of) it becomes a fish finder, and tells you everything you need to know.
Exposed hook ned rigs are surprisingly good in sparse grass doing exactly what you did. Drag them through until you get hung then rip them feee. A lot of the time I think they're not even making it to the bottom. But when the weeds atart to die you pull the weeds loose and they're stuck on the hook. And I AM awesome!
Part 2 did not disappoint. Can’t wait for part 3 when you find some time to drift some mule jigs and donkey tails under a float for some steelhead, maybe trying some #3 or #4 blue foxes too
That was a lot of fun! I don’t care what anyone says…even if I’m catching dinks, I’m catching fish! The big ones will come around eventually! Awesome video Ethan! Rip it out of the grass and you’ll catch a bass! That sandwich will look good on Instagram!😂🤣😂 #NedRig4Life #DinkLivesMatter
I recently caught an 18" Smallie , followed by a 5" Sunnie on the exact same Big TRD with 1/16 Mule. A few casts later, a 19" Smallie nailed the same setup. This speaks to the big ones coming around.
Dude I totally hear you about the "alien hand" thing. I'm slightly shorter than you (slightly less tall?) at 6'4", but I have the hands of a 7ft tall NBA player. Foot long fish look six inches when I hold them. Boat paddles. That's what we called it when I was a kid.
I'm still trying to find the mythical fall bass bite. It doesn't seem to be happening here, although fall is definitely happening. Our weather has been rather poopy since it started cooling though, lots of rain, lots of really overcast days, and lots of wind. And the wind sucks when you have an inflatable kayak. Hopefully it isn't so bad tomorrow.
So I'm not the only one catching crappie while I'm bass fishing this year lol I caught a 15 inch slab on a jackall pompadour which is about a 4in topwater...been a strange year for fishing
WOW! Someone thinks I'm awesome. And all I had to do was watch a nut fishing and losing his mind. LOL. Seriously. Love your videos. I caught my years best largemouth on the Ned rig craw. I'm a dinkmaster too. I got it from my dad. He started it way back 50 years ago. LOL But my best for the year was a 16" 2 pounds. I know. Some folks are laughing at me right now. But that's ok. Just call me Mr. Dinkmaster.
I gotta try that turtle pattern. I'm sure it will bring me some trophies. Should I go over the top of the turtle or skip it up to the the turtle? I think if I go over the turtle's back the turtle will double as a bobber. I'll give it a try and report back.
Fwiw ive found that my most productive presentation for the ned has always been letting it hit bottom then drag a few inches-pause-drag a few inches-pause-then slowly reel. 8 times outta 10, if there's resistance, a fish has it. Ive never really been successful with Ned Kehde's more typical presentation. But this way I described to you really built up my confidence in the ned game (mostly with TRD's and the Missile Baits Ned Bomb in grn pumpkin)
@@mattyschell1973 thanks! I'll need to remember that for the spring. Unfortunately I can't fish for the rest of November, maybe even longer because I broke my thumb. I've got some of the trds in green pumpkin, the deal, and coppertruce. I might have more but I can't remember. When I tried Ned fishing, I'd just pop it off of the bottom a couple times and then pause for a few seconds. But I'll definitely try your method when I'm able to.
@@isaaczimmerman7354 Dead-sticking and popping a couple of feet, back to dead-stick also tends to be extremely productive. It's pretty much what Ethan does here, minus the weeds/grass.
I fell in love with the ned rig this year. I don't leave home without it.

Well you know what they say… NED RIG 4 LIFE
Me too, starting fishing it early in the spring and don’t think I’ve gone a whole day of fishing without it since
Ned rig is definitely one of my favorite baits for the fall. Or any time of year. It just catches fish and that’s all you need to make a day a good one.
Particularly during the dog days of summer. When nothing else works, working the Ned at a painfully slow crawl always does the trick .
Heck yeah fellas! Ned Rig 4 Life :)
Glad you got a day to fish in between everything. I’ve got a day off Tuesday, so we’ll see what happens!
Hope you got into them! Thank you :)
Ned never fails. So simple and enjoyable way to catch fish. And a lot of fish
Heck to the yes! Love this little rig :)
"It's spooky season boyyyyzzz" 😂 deadly nedly strikes again!
🕺🏼🕺🏼🕺🏼 can’t go wrong!
Burly is coming for your Ned Rig crown. But we all know the true master.
😂 I won’t let him take that crown no matter how cool he is!!

Barry, you know I appreciate the heck out of you! I am just happy you've had so much dang success!
@@FishAnything It's about 80% of my game. Even when it's not a hit, it tells me what/where to throw.
It’s always hard to put the Ned down when it is the only thing producing. Got my new shirt in the mail yesterday and I’m digging it!
Heck yeah Micah thanks for picking that up :) And yeah you simply can't go wrong!
The water you fish looks so clean and clear. Need to find some water like that around me
Yeah this lake is so dang pretty! Always fun to fish clear water :)

Oooh lala! I saw some swim up the river and I watched them spawn. Only a matter of time before I catch the bug lol
Time to make that "On that turtle pattern" t-shirt
Make one and I will wear it with pride
i'm going to do this this weekend.
Awesome! Hope you had fun :)

Such clear water
Love this lake! Even though it mostly has dinky bass, it is so pretty!
Awesome video Ned rig is definitely a awesome bait always catch fish old reliable

You’re definitely the Ned rig king 👑 dude an I appreciate you, I hope you find that big bass bite next time you try!
🤠👏🏽 thanks Vin! I hope to get out and chase them again soon but I’m not sure I’ll get a chance until spring 🥲

Oh yeah pt2!!!
YEEEEEAH BUDDY
Ok I’m going to start throwing the Ned rig to change my luck thanks
Go get them!!
Ned rig 4 life! You should review the Ugly Stik GX2 ultralight!
That one is definitely high on my list.
No dude
You are awesome...
:) I try my best!
Great video. Big or small I love to catch them all
Dang right! That is the best attitude :)
good fishing good video thanks
Thank you Jack :)
Dude would you mind sharing your spook setup? Looking to get a power bass setup! Thanks for the content always love watching you man!
This was a Daiwa Tatula Elite / Daiwa Tatula 7'3 MH with 40lb braid!
Fun n gret video my friend🤙🤙🤙

I shouldnt have laughed that hard at the turtle pattern
Lol most of my jokes are sub-par but sometimes they still pull a laugh XD
Hey Ethan. I’ve seen that you have a small box with your Mule Jig heads in another video. Can you tell me where you got it from?
It is a simple ol' fly box from Cabelas!
Awesome vid man. What’s your favorite all time color for the finesse TRD?
GP Goby is probably my top! Canada Craw is another top dog

Haha please report back after trying numerous turtle patterns :) But my gut tells me you one-hop it off the shell for the highest success.
I like the audio what mic do you use ?
GoPro internal :)
Ethan, is that a BFS reel? Can you let us know that rod/reel set up ? Thx
He was throwing the Spook on a pretty standard baitcast setup. He goes through his Ned setup at 14:40 .
@@BarryP Thanks.. Looked so small with the gopro thought it was BFS . I was wondering why he was using a BFS to throw a heavy lure lol.
@@mattnguyen1672 No problem, Matt!
Yeah it was just a standard setup. Tatula Elite / Tatula :)
Never caught a single fish on the ned rig. I am sure it's the way I fish it. But I have to keep trying it, because it's supposed to work.
Hang in there! When it happens, you'll start catching a bunch I bet!
@@FishAnything I finally did it. I some how fowl hooked a 4 inch bluegill on a Ned Rig.
I don't know why, but I've never been able to catch a fish on a ned rig. I've tried it several times, but maybe I'm just doing something wrong

What is the deepest you can use a Ned Rig
I have used them as deep as 30' but they tend to shine in shallower water

What's my chance of getting a signed Mule Cap
I didn't realize you wanted it signed! Shoot - I already sent it out. If it makes you feel better, I have horrific handwriting
A wise man once said "Don't leave fish to find fish"
I would take 30 dinks over "Maybe" catching one good fish.
Truth!

I will say, RUclips, please fix this video, there is a dislike , this button should not be here.
When are you going to take the babe fishing?! Dont you know kids and fishing go hand in hand? lol😀
Haha I will take him fishing at some point but I don't think he will be getting much video time XD

I have always been told dont leave fish to find fish
Probably a good thing to practice haha but I have a lot of lakes with heavy populations, so sometimes it is what it takes to find the big ones.
