The veins in the scrotum have one-way valves to prevent blood flowing back during the brief moment between heartbeats. When these valves fail to function properly, the blood pools in the veins causing it to swell. This condition is known as varicocele.
Varicocele is commonly formed during puberty on the left side of one’s scrotum, because of its anatomy.
