The vocals on the bridge are some of the most outstanding vocals ever recorded. "If I were you, I'd realize that I", etc. Paul's high harmonies with John's vocal are just soooo great. Anyone disagree? I thought not.
Mike, just watched your "No Reply" video. WOW! You got me hooked! I've subscribed to your channel and look forward to listening to your other videos. LOVE the way you break down the parts and then bring them all together at the end. LOVE how you put the fingerings to the cords up in the corner. LOVE how you are using similar guitars to what they played. Was BLOWN AWAY by your vocals. So excited to see what other songs you've broken down. I'm 62 and started playing guitar when I was 8. Johhny Cash and The Beatles were my world (I know... but it was 1969...LOL). Thank you for such a GREAT surprise to start off my day.
I've always felt that the greatness of the Beatles wasn't their hits, it was their albums. Other bands would put out an album with one or two singles, and 8-9 tracks which were rubbish. The Fabs could put out an album with no singles on it, and have something ;like 4 to six or seven tracks which were as good as any single. No Reply is one of those tracks. I've LOVED it since the first time I heard it in 1965. Thank you for the lesson. I'm learning it tonight.
By this time (I was like, 11), I listened to each new track on every new album, not believing that the wonderfulness could keep rolling and rolling out of them. We were like, 4 or 5 albums in at this point (depending if you were in the US or the UK). I always found this album amazing. How could they keep this up??? And then they kept on for another ~5 years??? BEST BAND EVER.
Mike, I was 15 in 63, when The Beatles showed up in America, it was a Revelation for us, young kids, their fresh new Sound was something Huge, a complete Revolution, that was to change Music for ever, I was lucky to witness their complete Evolution through the years, and I,m still Amazed at their Talent, something we,ll never see again in a Lifetime. Thanks for keeping it alive for the younger Generation.
In 64...65...my two older sisters were dating two blokes from Liverpool...who used to watch the Beatles in the Cavern...club..!!! Very cool ...!!! Keep up the GREAT WORK.!!
Hey Mike, not only are you a great teacher. I believe you are a great music historian for the Beatles. I don't know if you have ever had an opportunity to meet Paul or Ringo but I hope you do. Having someone as dedicated as you are to preserving their legacy....these guy in my opinion owe you debt of gratitude. If anyone reading this comment know Paul or Ringo....please reach out to them and let them know about Mike's work. You are the best Mike ! Thank You
It's apparent that you put a lot of work into making this video. Your musical abilities are obviously quite impressive - but it's really just the folksy yet informative way you communicate that makes this lesson sink in for the viewer. Thank you.
Now many of us can die happy. Cuz we can now play all these songs we heard and loved as kids! "No Reply" is epic. Your devotion to the Lads' work is a legend unto itself. Thanks, Mike.
You're teaching your daughter Beatles songs on guitar?? Even if you showed her an incorrect inversion or such.... You've made NO mistakes!! What a great dad you must be.... Kudos to you, Randolph ☮☮☮
*So* true, but when someone asks me "What's your Favorite Beatles song" Can never answer that.." _Let It Be_ ", no wait... " _Lady Madonna_ ", no wait " _Something_ " this can go on forever! To me, every song is there Best! " _Octopus's Garden_ "?..No wait... " _Glass Onion_ " No... _"I Wanna Hold Your Hand_ 🤣☮ 🚶♂🚶♂🚶♂🚶♂🌞
I'm so glad I lived through the times when these songs came out and were new, It was such a great time for music. Waiting for their next album to be released and never disappointed when they would. The Beatles were the best song writers and performers.
You are the one man band and I am loving it ! When you put that together at the end wow tears were flowing and goosebumps were popping, this as always been one of my favorite Lennon songs and you did it so so good! Loved it ! Thanx Mike
"No Reply" is the first song on my first Beatles album owned, at eleven years old. It's a joy to get the mystery analyzed. That A major chord - the perfect sounding new major third, wow!
Your in depth Beatle breakdowns are so well done! Thank you to revealing the subtleties of John’s and George’s playing. No way in heck would I ever be able to figure it out the way you do! The Beatles trivia about each song is also GREAT!
You never fail to amaze me with the intricacies of the chord voicings that you work out for your Beatle covers. Your a very tented musician Mike, thank you for posting this classic Beatle song!..- James 🎸
Music is important and deserves competent explanation by experts This general principle applies to many disciplines This is how we acquire knowledge and know the truth
I get most of my Beatles guitar lessons from Mike. Its given me an even greater appreciation for the Beatles and their musicianship and songwriting craft. I like how he breaks down the separate parts rather than amalgamating the songs parts like other guitar lessons do. Great stuff.
Excellent analysis of one of my fav Beatles songs; it has that smooth mellow flow of say, I'll Be Back, Paul's vocals add so much kick! Ringo's off beat rim shots are wonderful. Mike you are a true musical scholar and your work on this site should be preserved as a scholarly work. Your musicianship, recording expertise, concentrated deep listening of tracks, use of similar Beatles-like instruments, and your research into the Beatles world is exemplary scholarly work Mike. Great Job!!
The detail on the rhythm parts for John and George is so important and I always overlook it due to haste. Also the C6 chord George plays was so obvious "after" i heard you play it. Thank you.
Hey Mike Until they let George loose, I found that all of my favorite Beatles songs were John songs. Here is another. Although little heard and in the "John didn't like " group , it's one my favorites. You did a great job of breaking it down.
Although I think it is great platform for John's vocals, from the warmth of the "middle eight" through to the intensity of "This happened once before . . .", I do understand why it would not be one of John's favourites. Lyrically rather impoverished and another unrequited love song. Contrast this to the relative richness, musically and lyrically, of "Norwigian Wood" and, although a nice song, one I certainly enjoy like yourself, not one of John's best.
Lennon/McCartney work out 48/52% for song output. Can't remember who wrote the most but as for quality they were very evenly matched-John being more pentatonic sounding and McCartney writing slightly more sophisticated in structure I think. When I read, learn and study the Beatles I just become more and more amazed that you got two people from poor and relatively uneducated backgrounds that came together in one band and then George also showing talent also. It's like lightening in a bottle as though all the stars lined up for that 8 yrs they were so productive. Thank god they happened because they changed the lives of millions of people and inspired so many more.
Mike, Your analysis of the Beatles' music is second to none! It's a treasure trove to all of us out here, trying to play and sing these iconic songs. Your work is much appreciated.
Mike, your attention to detail is amazing. I started on guitar in '65 when I was 13... So as told my youngest brother years ago, I played these songs when they first came out. I couldn't afford that equipment back then but over the years my working collection has increased. One of my joys back then was to play a Ric 360-12 plugged into a Sunn amplifier. Those chiming notes are still ringing in my ears many years later! Keep up the good work, I really enjoy your love of the people, music and instruments of that time!
Hey Joe!! I did start on guitar in January'65, when I was 13... and I think this was the first Beatles LP I could buy, perhaps in February, when it started to be sold in Spain (in a discoshop called Sinfonía). It was the first track in face 1, same as Taxman in Revolver, surely enough to dedicate the next days to listen to it about one million times. And through 65 and 66 played some of these songs in different student bands in Madrid, girls shouting like wounded demons in all the theatres or schools we acted. Real Magic, still in my mind.
I was 13 in 1965. I started a rock band the next year. The Beatles time was my era. Strange to hear John didn't care for the song. Somebody must have thought a lot of it, since they made it the 1st song on the album. It's always been one of my all time favorite.
My guitar playing has gotten so much better since finding Mike a few years ago . It is like learning from a best friend as he makes it so comfortable and relaxed !
Mike, I really enjoy these tutorials. You have taught me so much, not just about the Beatles, but in the way songs are put together and different parts work together.
Most accurate transcriptions and Beatles analysis on the whole youtube! When I started watching your videos, I was even kind of annoyed-I ve been a beatles freak for 35 years, and it turned that I missed quite a few nuances in those songs))
This sounds much better than how I was playing it. It's kind of impossible to have a favorite Beatles song but No Reply is a candidate. Thanks so much Mike for this lesson. I love playing this song.
I can't play at all, but I love watching u break down the Beatles genius... the unbridled joy, fascination and love you have for the Beatles is the same as mine... enjoyed the back story John never liked the song.....while mere mortals like the rest of us would have thought we were the greatest songwriter in history to come up with even 1 of what he considered a garbage song...who knows why but this was always a favorite of mine.. it's a shame generations since mine have not gotten to experience a phenomenon sweeping the world like the Beatles.. P.S the first time my father heard "In my life" was the first time i saw him with tears in his eyes, he never complained again about my brother and I taking over his stereo and let us move it into our room... this 68 y/o says thank you man.
That was really awesome Mike. Your knowledge & history of Beatles music always astounds me. "No Reply" is one of my all time favorite Beatles songs. Keep up the great work & thanks again for keeping the music alive! Hope that you are doing well & staying safe...
My brother is a jazz guitarist, and he once said that figuring out the chords to Beatle songs is always a difficult task. George and John were effortless geniuses.
In England they'd say splashing or smashing mate or laddie I think either way it's truly the best cymbals I ever heard at not such a loud tone it's smashing n splashing sound is chilling no?
Great video Mike! I've always loved that Aminor, Eminor, Fmaj7, Eminor section with the Am and Fmaj7 played on the upbeats. Despite John's opinion it's one of my favourite early songs. Thank you so much for your work on these videos.
You are a genius, Mike. I’ve loved the Beatles for donkey’s years. I’m 72, and I actually went to one of their gigs in London and I’ve been besotted with them ever since. I love your wonderful enthusiasm and I’m always chuffed when I come across your most enjoyable posts Keep it up! Philbert
I purchased the 65 album and I remember each song.I was 10 years old and now that I'm 67 I still remember [I'm a loser]followed... this tune...excellent video....
Great job on this. I've been doing my own remakes in my studio and when you get into the structures and harmonies on stuff like Nowhere Man, and You Won't See Me etc., You start seeing the genius behind the music. Their early songs were extremely short, some like 1:50 and many around 2:00 minutes long, but the musicality, tone, harmony was harder to produce than it sounds. It was the little nuisances that they all added and George Martin was a huge part of the finished product. There were literally five geniuses and talented guys in the studio. How they came up with these musical ideas was either drug induced or some kind of out of body experience. Out of 70 or so songs, there were only a couple that I didn't care for. Amazing stuff. Mike, you pretty much have it figured out. Thanks for that.
I find myself wanting to ask you about every Beatles track I've always wanted to play but couldn't quite figure out. I have to restrain from asking. You're amazing mike
This tune is wonderfully melodic with the hook, for me, being the A minor to E minor change accompanied by a cymbal crash. A great video on your part. The detail to strumming is something I'd not paid much attention to before but is such a key element.
I play with round part of pick no one showed me I did on my own n I'm no guitarist by any means I can sing some though got n ear like Paul basically near the same tones the white albums r Bible
Hey Mike! I am so glad you have both the ear to hear and the patience to follow through understanding these classic works of art. Your lessons really break down the magic behind the sound. Just wanted to say how much I appreciate it. By the way, earlier this morning I had a song in mind, and all my old brain would remember was the first word, “I “ sustained for seven (or eight) beats. Of course, it was “I should have known better.” And in your analysis (CDG, with an E minor) I realized it was a perfect manifestation of first love. The intense happiness, mixed with doubt and uncertainty, followed by more happiness! What writing skill!
Excellent, you make me smile, love those old Beatle songs, you do them so it looks like fun. Another thing that made these old Beatle songs so enjoyable to listen to was the hook. It was in the same key but so different that it was like another song within the song. This is a perfect example of that.
Hey mike i play a few beatles songs and when i was a kid i wouldnt listhen to nothing else i still prefer beatles songs to any others thankyou so much for your time and effort yer the beatles were called the fab four for a reason in the words of tina turner, They were simply the bedt better than all the rest.
Great job Mike. I really like how you add George Martin’s contributions. He really was the 5th Beatle. They owe him a great deal for his contributions and guidance. It proves how a great producer really adds to the process.
I still remember all the tracks and most of the lyrics from Beatles for Sale, I was given the album around 1965 aged 13, the record long since gone now, as is the girl that gave it to me. I have started practicing again with a new guitar, having fun and enjoying your videos.
GEEEEZ---thanks for an AMAZING lesson..........it/YOU couldn't be more perfect on this!!! You've outdone yourself on this one....this is the best gift you could've presented to the world!!!! we needed it.
What a wonderful insight on this classic Beatles song! The F6-G6 passage is much overlooked and adds so much to the song! I'm sure Huey Lewis would agree as this is the reverse of his "Heart and Soul" which now sounds super-close to this masterpiece going G6-F6. What a wonderful job you've done Mike putting all the pieces together on this one. Bravo!
I’ve never seen anyone providing this much in depth analysis about the Beatles. You deserve a Ph.D in Beatleology.
Think he probably already has one. Lolo.
Mike is the authority in the matter haha
He teaches the class
Mike is the Man
Agree
The vocals on the bridge are some of the most outstanding vocals ever recorded. "If I were you, I'd realize that I", etc. Paul's high harmonies with John's vocal are just soooo great. Anyone disagree? I thought not.
Yes, there is an urgency about the bridge vocals, John and Paul, which commands attention.
the early beatles vocals were just ridiculous!!
Speaking of high harmonies, Baby"s in Black off the same album features even better high harmonies in the middle 8- if that's at all possible!
You’re spot on bro...
"...than any other guy" is my favourite part.
Mike, just watched your "No Reply" video. WOW! You got me hooked! I've subscribed to your channel and look forward to listening to your other videos. One of the best songs by Lennon. His voice is incredible here.

Someone pointed out that this song would be enough for a one-hit wonder band. But for the Beatles, just another song.

You are so right !
Great comment. Totally agree.
Agree with it, cool comment.
When I bought each Beatles album, from first to last song , all of them were listened with same pleasure.
For me, the Em upstroke has kept this song alive for 60 years
It’s a remarkable song. John and Paul’s singing is so great and the finish is powerful.
You are the best Mike ! Thank You
I’ve seen a video of Mike asking Paul a question and shaking his hand, Mike was very young and even slimmer 🤣
Hinkley did the world a grave harm when he stole John from us. Imagine the joy Mike would have sharing his analysis with John
It's apparent that you put a lot of work into making this video. Your musical abilities are obviously quite impressive - but it's really just the folksy yet informative way you communicate that makes this lesson sink in for the viewer. Thank you.

Michael, what a great job dissecting these 60's classics by the greatest band ever. Thank you
Taught my daughter to play that recently. Now I'll have to go back and correct my mistakes. Brilliant as always!
You're teaching your daughter Beatles songs on guitar??
Even if you showed her an incorrect inversion or such....
You've made NO mistakes!! What a great dad you must be....
Kudos to you, Randolph ☮☮☮
One generation to the next!
That crash out of place towards the end is precious and creates magical tension before the end.
Another lovely fave song, the tone is so lovely. Thanks for your work!
Hey Mike great lesson really helped me learn this song for my audition. Thanks!
one of the very best Beatle songs

Your overall knowledge and ability to breakdown and teach a song is amazing. Thank you so much!
I absolutely love your videos of Beatle songs and background info. Every little chord variation is explained and appreciated.
Thank you
Glad you like them!
Outstanding, Mike. Truly one of their most underrated songs. Always loved it. Thx, Mate.
DOUBLE DITTO..!
John's little chord progressions sound like gold. It never ceases to amaze me!!
"No Reply" and "I'll Be Back" are early Lennon cool.
@@thomaspick4123 You had me in the first half, then you started with that Faul nonsense.
What about "Please, please me"...?
Nice to hear Mike Pacelli telling stories and playing Beatles' Songs. Thank You, congratulations.😊
Thanks for listening
Absolutely one of my favorite Beatles songs EVER! What a great job!
You are the one man band and I am loving it ! When you put that together at the end wow tears were flowing and goosebumps were popping, this as always been one of my favorite Lennon songs and you did it so so good! Loved it ! Thanx Mike

John Lennon's nuts. That's a gorgeous song. That Am-Em just kills me every time.
It’s the vocals that twist the knife. Sung with anguish.
How could anyone not LOVE this great Beatles song, Fantastic tune, beautiful chord pattern !!
Your depth and breath of all things Beatles never ceases to amaze me. Keep up the brilliant work, we very much appreciate your talents!

Beautiful. Just beautiful. Not just as an homage. But as a lesson in what is possible for
That C/9 really wraps the song up with a bow. The middle 8 (16) takes the tune into "Besame Mucho" land, which The Beatles played live.
One of the best songs ever written, beautifully analysed by mike. It's there for us all to admire.
Great tutorial and easy going information. Enjoy all your videos. It's like you're here in person and playing together. Thanks a million.

Always loved this song and Bestles65 album. Beautiful rendition.
Mike, Beatles were my favorite band. 68 and still lovin their music. This definitely made smile and sing too!
Even though there are four Mike Pachellis, he is truly a singular talent....
Top notch teacher of music and The Beatles. Great videos. I have learned much from you, Mike. Thank You

Looks like somebody had fun recording this song. This is a lesser radio played gem by the lads. Thx Mike! All you need is ears!
Ditto. Where were you when I was really working on learning these!👏👏👏👏✔️👍🥇
As always, a fantastic tutorial by an outstanding teacher and communicator!
Wow, thank you!
@@MPfrance your welcome, credit where credits due Mike.
One of my favorite Beatles songs covered perfectly as usual :) you always do such a great job
Thank you very much!
Mike... you’re awesome! Sat here playing along and felt like we were in the studio together laying the track down... goosebumps man!
Hearing this gives me chills...
My old pal J is learning guitar, chose No Reply as his first quest!! Thanks for the great lesson!!
Yea yea yeah! 🎸
Rock on!
Great job Mike. I really like how you add George Martin’s contributions. He really was the 5th Beatle. They owe him a great deal for his contributions and guidance. It proves how a great producer really adds to the process.
Man..you lay it all out perfectly...you are the sixth Beatle
That was really great. Without videos like this I probably would never even try to play this song. I love the Beatles. Thanks so much.
You're not only a great player but a great teacher. Thanks for the time you take for each performance.
I appreciate that!
Out of dozens of tracks with a great bridge, this is the greatest.
Your performance was excellent I really liked it. Thanks
Your guitar skills are extraordinary...you know the Beatles tunes so well.
I still remember all the tracks and most of the lyrics from Beatles for Sale, I was given the album around 1965 aged 13, the record long since gone now, as is the girl that gave it to me. I have started practicing again with a new guitar, having fun and enjoying your videos.
Billy Kid - we've travelled the same road - dnd yeah - girls loved us kids who could play the Beatles!
Thanks Mike for bringing us the ingredients of the GENIUS of THE BEATLES!
GEEEEZ---thanks for an AMAZING lesson..........it/YOU couldn't be more perfect on this!!! You've outdone yourself on this one....this is the best gift you could've presented to the world!!!! we needed it.
Thanks Mike my favorite Beatles song
What a wonderful insight on this classic Beatles song! The F6-G6 passage is much overlooked and adds so much to the song! I'm sure Huey Lewis would agree as this is the reverse of his "Heart and Soul" which now sounds super-close to this masterpiece going G6-F6. What a wonderful job you've done Mike putting all the pieces together on this one. Bravo!
