I’m so glad you made a video about Emp. I’ve been a Patreon supporter of his for a while now, and he deserves so much more attention that he gets. Great video essay, let’s see it go viral!
EmpLemon's American Psychos video essay is, in my opinion, one of the absolute best video essays ever made PERIOD. The way he analyzes the media and characters and juxtaposes the idealism of their philosophy with their grim realities and tells it all in such a coherent and engaging way is honestly an artform that no one else on the platform can do. I feel like EmpLemon at this point makes these videos for himself rather than the audience and it all comes out so much better because of it. The Talladega and Dale Earnhardt videos are also high quality content with a lot of soul, heart, and thought put into them and they're as iconic as the Uncredibles is now. I genuinely don't see EmpLemon as a RUclips Poop channel turned video essayist. He really gives me Tyler the Creator vibe where this angry kid who was clearly very talented saw what made him "famous" wasn't shit he cared about or wanted to do and so he set out to become something greater. I love that kind of shit.
Yo same! I didn't watch emp as much until 2021 and 2022 and he really kills it on his videos. Love his video essay's so much, really inspired me to step up my editing and videos!
that daydream transition gave me CHILLS GIVE ME YOUR TALENT ILL PAY YOU ANYTHING P.S the best part of all of his video essays is how they go full circle, it's always fucking ORGASMIC when he ends a video off of something he introduced
EmpLemon is one of the most unique creators I’ve ever seen and he really used his past experiences to evolve past really all creators on this platform. His ideas seem to come from his YTP days and his rants from 2017 and 2018 are also the days he was cynical and struggling in college and then he was freed from all of it but I can also tell he hasn’t really changed drastically and keeps his thoughts on controversial subjects more in check instead which is why he has his Downward Diary to rant on all of what isn’t elaborated in his essays. I think for as long as EmpLemon is around RUclips will always be a thing because of his downward spiral unironically and representing the true 1 of 1 ordinary man against the internet
the "never ever" line at the end gave me chills, except it felt warm, so it wasnt chills i guess. You are slowly turning into one of my favourite RUclipsrs and i'm not even joking, ever since the Intros video and then coming back at the ludwig video. Good Luck
Emplemon is the true RUclips underdog story, from RUclips poops to RUclips truths, when he likely would have given up he kept going, he’s the content creator we should all learn from on how to make it
Emp is one of those YT users who started seeing the site as a fun site where it was just "Broadcast yourself" and wanted to do stuff he felt was fun for him. Still, as he stayed on the internet, especially RUclips, the cracks of reality on this website started to appear and shatter him and his mental state. Many could argue that his users or his parents may have told him to take a break from the internet which could've happened but he was bitter at the community that betrayed him after they welcomed him in with open arms. But Emp started around mid-2019-2020 and he felt he wanted to change he said in his The Downward Spiral video that what he did beforehand on his YTP times was for fun and wanted to move on cuz they were a huge risk for his channel and he wanted to move from the rants he made back then too. A man who really felt that it was time to change and move on and I can respect Emp because of it. Amazing vid JHX
I feel like Origin of the Downward spiral and Frying Comments both pluck the same sorta cord. Along with one of his quote from the Never Ever over Homer’s Enemy, “To be human is to be irrational.” All of those moments for me tend to summarize Emp as a person forged by circumstances around himself. Stuart K Riely, YTP community, and his rants. All were necessary for his gradual maturation as a creator. Happy that more and more people are giving him the recognition he deserves.
I originally found the guy when he made the RUclips downward spiral video. One of the first longer scripted videos that I actually managed to sit through. I think it was because of his passion behind the subject. THAT is the one thing you can be sure about Emp, he will almost always bring his all into his bigger projects, and I respect that. In terms of video essays, he's still my favorite to watch.
So true, My first EmpLemon video was the hungrybox NeverEver Video, back when content that mature in tone was harder to come by. Great youtuber, and so are you :)
Emplemon is my favourite RUclipsr of all time. There is something so grabbing about the way he tells a story, to a point I can still get so much enjoyment from rewatching his essays. Then there is the use of music, such a spectrum but almost always a good track that keeps me attached. And the endings, combining every thing so it can hit like a truck. If I had to pick one, There May Never Ever Be Another Man As Powerful As Stanislav Petrov is my favourite Emplemon, if not my favourite video on all of RUclips. I’m a student of History with a focus of nuclear history. And the story is just told so well. And that ending is up there as one that actually got me to tear up with the quote of Petrov saying he just did his job and did it well. The fact I wouldn’t be alive today if it wasn’t for this man hit me like a truck.
This video is highly underrated imo. The development of EmpLemon's channel over the course of time is something that endlessly fascinates me. You can tell when his editing style evolved, what changed and what stayed, what "era" he's in so to speak. If I'm being honest I kind of missed the snappy editing, humor and raw passion of Emp's anti-RUclips era. But his current style of videos has to be my favorite, and he definitely seems more fulfilled with that type of content. I think my absolute favorite video of his has to be the RUclips Geographic (absolute peak series btw, learning about the micro and macrocosms of RUclips was incredibly fun) on Leafy. It definitely marked a stylistic shift for him, and the subject matter and presentation of the video is just so interesting. It was one of the first times I remember I had my "mind blown" by a RUclips video- the theory and evidence for the true reason behind Leafy's disappearance was just immaculate, it completely shook my view on a matter I previously thought was done, in a way that made complete sense. The return and inevitable ban of Leafy made that video even more interesting in retrospect.
I remember ending my binge of Emplemons entire channel on the History of the downward spiral video and I knew from that day on, come rain or shine, whenever he would post the next project, I'd be there.
EmpLemon is on exactly the same path that vaporwave took. Going all the way back to Chuck Person's "Eccojams", vaporwave was once a dimly characterized niche, considered to be nothing more than a bizarre novelty. Even today, despite the retro theming it draws to attention, it's only real connection to the past is through a heavily distorted amalgamation of liminal noises. Yet now, it is a culturally encompassing phenomenon, captivating the present generation through a spirit of deep, unfounded, and unexplainable nostalgia. It's clear to me that EmpLemon has grasped that same spirit; despite his exploration of a seemingly random array of facts, ideas, symbols, and emotions, he is able to captivate people through a strong connection to whatever it is that calls forward our eternal but forgotten sense of longing to understand. EmpLemon sets the standard for what the whole of RUclips is striving towards, and therefore what we should prepare ourselves for.
Emplemon is a youtuber I have followed since his Uncredibles YTP. I waa always excited for his new YTPs and seeing him evolve is one of the best things to see. It makes me want to make videos on topics and ideas that I enjoy.
It is great that you follow people amazing and learn without judging by rushing And thank you because the mention of the best game is literally oppressed very sad because there is no big society and wonderful but we hope that it returns to its golden age Thank jhxc for this video❤
He had some very good points in the period where he ranted, but as Emp elaborated on in his History of the Downward Spiral video, he wasn’t happy making those videos. In my book, the videos from that period and before are ok, but from the video on Leafy onward, he has been much better consistently.
That video is the one that really changed his entire perspective as he would mention in the history of the downward spiral video. After that, we start to see a lot of longer, deeper uploads out of him, and in my opinion most of his best uploads are from then on. My personal favorite video from Emp is part 2 of RUclips Copyright Metagame.
This was a decent video but I have one small problem with it. I feel like you sort of missed the point of Emp's Jimmy Kimmel video, more specifically his rant about politics and liberals. His message wasn't "I hate liberals" or "liberals are bad for wanting free health care", his message was that liberals give themselves a bad reputation by oversimplifying problems and having a difficult time understand why other parties feel the way they do about certain topics, and no offence, but you sort of proved him right by saying "sorry I want free health care", when that wasn't at all what his point was. He even says himself in the video that he doesn't hate liberals, and in fact, he actually thinks liberals can greatly benefit American politics when they're more rational and understanding of neighboring party's thoughts and opinions. Obviously not every liberal thinks and acts the way Emp describes in his video, there are exceptions to everything, but his issues with liberals run far deeper than wanting free health care and wanting less gun violence. Most of the topics he covered in that video are still relevant today, which is surprising since it's been many a year now, but I think it's a valuable skill to be perceptive and able to put yourself in other people's shoes before you form an opinion on their opinion, not to imply that you aren't doing so yourself, but that's how it comes off with the way you talked about the Jimmy Kimmel video.
Hey man, good point. In that specific part of the video, I was mostly trying to express how I felt at the time, and how it resulted in me initially not liking the video, and I definitely didn't do a good enough job at clarifying how EmpLemon's more recent videos have helped me look at the Jimmy Kimmel vid in a new light. I unintentionally presented the Downward Spiral vid as if Emp himself was ashamed of his old videos, which is not only in and of itself a complete misunderstanding, but also didn't touch upon this "new light" enough.
@@jhxc64Makes sense. Every video is a learning experience, always a great opportunity to better your content and learn how to present yourself as a creator. 👍👍👍

Yeah, I feel the same lol It’s wild just how close the parallels Emp has with my own views at times, where the early 2010s were nothing but silly videos with potty humor and yelling while the mid 2010s were constant rants full of being annoyed and angry, then later on mellowing out to sit down and study what we enjoy, no matter the obscurity It’s probably the parasociality talking, but you could probably use Emp’s back catalogue as a lens into how I grew up, and probably a bunch of others lol

This being backed up by my bias of the world essentially revolving around whatever I heard a youtuber complaining about... My god, the RUclips rewind stuff back then, and in hindsight, years following 2016, I.e. 2017, really were the years where the downward spiral for freedom of speech and expression well and truly went down the toilet, atleast in terms of people's attitudes, cause I haven't really suffered these things yet, I've just internalized all that rage and am reacting to it and not really understanding it fully until much later... 10:00 Damn, I'm surprised you got that outta his video.
Emp makes great video essays but I agree that his personal politics and holier than though attitude can be grating. Similar issue I have with Turkey Tom, honestly. Having said that as soon as either of those RUclipsrs upload a new video I’m gonna watch it in a heartbeat, so whatever.
@@cronggpal tbf he was just following the trends of the time I think lots of people were mad and trying to gatekeep back when internet hisjtory content started I guess some people get mad when what they thought was an inside joke gets popular and becomes mainstream behind the meme was just making innocent content about stuff he liked and he got a wave of backlash from a lot of people mad bc he was going mainstream about stuff they thought should only bhe special to them and their communities
@@cronggpal obviously he took it too far, but in my opinion it's easy to see that it's coming from a place of extreme passion over something that most people don't really care about, that had bugged him for years at that point. there's a reason why teenage-20s emp seemed to gravitate towards the CM Punk avatar - he saw himself as somebody who was willing to say real shit about things that other people would just overlook. he was much more aggressive and spiteful in those days, and especially considering the factors, i don't really think it's reasonable to hold that against him 7+ years later.
idk, i like emp but just ppl like him and bobbybrocolli are just jon bois inspired. They are basically jon bois but for different topic, and their vids to me are in a bit lower quality than jon bois
I used to watch emperor lemon on my 2ds when I was 8 which was over 11 years ago. I loved his youtube poop spongebob videos and the rick and morty one. Although when trump came around he focused all of his content basically about trump and the jokes he made crushing everything liberal and basically painting trump as a god which killed my view of him and then he ruined another youtuber for me named RustyCage of which he moved in with and rusty ended up being an alcoholic anyway. It just sucks that he put his views before his youtube views because he could’ve been celebrated forever in the youtube poop scene like many others are
Those were older videos but he’s still got a lot of CHUD tendencies. His best videos are objective and don’t involve a ton of editorial and personal opinions of his.
@@galleryofrogues it honestly makes me very interested about what a normal conversation with emp from the perspective of sociopolitics would look like. man seems to have chilled out greatly over the years which makes me hope that he's at the very least understanding of left-leaning rationality.

Emp makes great video essays but I agree that his personal politics and holier than though attitude can be grating. Similar issue I have with Turkey Tom, honestly. Having said that as soon as either of those RUclipsrs upload a new video I’m gonna watch it in a heartbeat, so whatever.
nice use of advertising in this video
I like emplomen, he makes good content...but his take about the meme channels was bad imo
it was petty gatekeeping bs
hes such a crybaby lmao, i enjoy some of his vids but that take his take on that was just bad
@@cronggpal
tbf he was just following the trends of the time I think
lots of people were mad and trying to gatekeep back when internet hisjtory content started
I guess some people get mad when what they thought was an inside joke gets popular and becomes mainstream
behind the meme was just making innocent content about stuff he liked and he got a wave of backlash from a lot of people mad bc he was going mainstream about stuff they thought should only bhe special to them and their communities

Hmm nice
other than the part with data wings i agree with everything said in the video
yes
I hope he changed because the first half... yikes
