Wow, built-in speakers, web cam, USB hub, microphone? I could probably find at lest 100 monitors, that has that! 3:43 You need one (1) more cable to a non Apple display, to do the same as an Apple display. And that's only if you need to use the USB hub functionality. How often do you need that? And even if you need to have ten cables going out from your monitor, which you don't, every decent monitor, like 98% of all monitors on the market, has cable management, so that you don't see any cables going from the monitor. The Studio Display is a good monitor, even a great one, depending on your needs. But for most people, it's overkill and for those who care, there are better options. As for plastic vs alu, it's a useless conversation. An alu display doesn't last longer. Yeah, the foot may look better, but that's it. Most have the monitor against a wall, so who cares. You are right about wobbling for many displays, but just about any good display has VESA mount, and you can buy a better stand for those.
I just ordered one a couple of days ago to go with my IPad Pro M4 and Magic Keyboard. Only regret is that I don’t think I will get a “Full Screen” display…According to Apple, I will only be able to use “mirroring” which will leave me with blacks “bars” on e all sides oof the screen. Still thinks it’s a beautiful monitor.❤ Your set-up looks so clean and uncluttered, really nice!
I just ditched my widescreen LG and bought two Nano glass Studio Displays. Super happy as the displays play well with my M1 Macbook pro which drives them both without any adapters or special software etc. And I run both sets of speakers simultaneously too. Buy once, cry once!
I'm using a TV in the living room that is fuck knows how old that my parents cast off- I reckon its at least 10 years old now, and a 2003 apple cine display for my mac mini. Monitors and TVs can last forever!
Question if I get this monitor and I have a MacBook Pro m2 chip but this studio display is only 60 hertz. If I were to do. 3d renders and AirPlay it to the screen or whatever will I notice lag or anything? The studio display is 4k though. I’m not knowledgeable about this stuff and never owned a monitor before.
Do you think Apple will be launching a new version soon? I am thinking of getting one, but I have a feeling that a new version should be released soon, so I'm waiting for some news! Great video!
There is a rumor that Apple is preparing iMac Pro next year possibly 32 inch. If so, I doubt Apple will upgrade Studio Display soon for maximizing the new iMac Pro sale. It means I guess we will not see Studio Display upgrade for another couple of years.
Based on historical data, Apple releases a new display every 10-12 years. Also, there has been no significant progress in display technology since the release of the Studio Display. Based on that data, I doubt Apple will release a new one anytime soon.
For me the most annoying design choice is that the stand is not interchangeable, changing from the regular stand to a monitor arm is not possible. Something Apple could have easily added since it also has been done on the xdr display. And the cable cord…. It’s fixed wtf.
Having the cable fixed to the monitor is a design fail too. If your cable breaks, you have to send back the whole monitor - no idea why they would make it like that.
@@Wavybeing I think it's a genius design success. I'd like you to hear me out. The Studio Display's power cable carries 120V AC power. Therefore, it must adhere to the IEC 60320 standard for AC power and plugs, which specifies the widespread C13/C14 connector (your current display is probably using one). That connector requires a minimum of 20mm of space, which the Studio Display doesn't have. The two ways around this problem that we see other companies apply are (1) using an external power brick and a small DC power connector and (2) making the AC cable non-removable. Apple found a third option and middle ground, though. They designed a custom plug which is difficult enough to remove to be considered "non-removable" but is still easily replaced if necessary. I take Apple's solution any day of the week. I adore the design of the Studio Display, and I'm not too fond of those ugly and bulky external power bricks. I've never had a power cable break on me, so I'm not worried about that happening (especially not a cable of the quality Apple provides).
I was deciding between this and the samsung m8 32". I ended up going with the M8 for like $450. The fact that it's plug and play for most everything like my PS5, Switch and tablet was the deciding factor for me. I will say the speakers on the studio display blow the M8's out of the water. I had to get a separate bluetooth Bose soundlink for me to even listen to any media. If I had money to spare I would have def bought the studio display and just get a capture card to connect my consoles, etc.
Studio display doesn’t work with Consoles! Idk why this is an issue but no matter what cables I try, I can’t get it to connect to any Xbox or PlayStation, so I’d steer clear of the studio display lol
I guess, I usually use my studio display right next to the mini led MacBook display and they both look incredible. The MacBook gets brighter for HDR content but outside of that they both look very similar. Or maybe im just coping lmao
@@ConnorOfDestruction Thunderbolt is not display connector by default but it can be used for alternative display port and with 40Gbps it should be able to output this signal with compression enabled.
27 inches is already small for a 4K monitor, so it being 5k isn't a great selling point. Also there are IPS monitors for much less than $1500 than go up to 1000 nits (AOC, Innocn, etc.) I just saw an Acer one with 1000 nits, HDR, and 240 hz for $800. For the $700 you'd save, you can pick up a much better webcam and speakers than those on the Studio display. I am not convinced here bro 😭
You are wrong though. Macos has a certain display scaling. So that 219ppi 5k resolution is actually shown as 2560x1440 (which is 109.5ppi) making it perfect. 109.5ppi is more clear on this display that on a normal 1440p 27" display, because it combines more pixels to make the text/image look sharper (retina display). Basically 109ppi screens and this screen show the same size of displayed text/images/windows, but with less clarity. If you have a 4k 27" or any other screen that deviates a bit too much from 110ppi, your text won't look as good. It will be fuzzy/blurry and not as sharp. Also with artifacts over some rounded edges and icons. For that reason, if you are using macos, aim for either a normal display at around 110ppi, or a retina display (like lg ultrafine which is old but still great and glossy, or if you want matte, samsung viewfinity s9. But studio display still wins)
It's the fault of MacOS, that text doesn't look good on non Retina displays. But you can fix that with an app, like BetterDisplay. It's like blaming the car for speeding, when the driver's at fault.
Love the style and confidence of your presentation and great review too 👍
Not to mention it looks amazing. Good luck finding any other monitors that look that good.

Just bought one new on sale for $1299. Yippee!
You kept saying it’s $1500 until 30 secs from the end when you finally got it right $1599. That’s $1600😂
Still rocking my iMac Pro retina 5k display, 500 nits and awsome speaker 😁
That’s the real secret bang for your buck lol!

who uses a monitor for 5 years? Most of the monitors on the market are easily going to last a decade and more.

People are still using their 1999 Apple Cinema Display. Even second-hand, they go for ridiculous prices (for such an old monitor).
