@@zachryder3150 She overcame the Autism by engaging with and loving the Autism. Truly, the most wholesome character in the series. @@karnewarriorWhat are you saying. She had done more than Leia had ever done in the movies. Why is she considered “vapid” and “side character” but not Leia?
The way Anakin was able to so clearly identify flaws within the republic but was unable to recognize the core practical issues of his own proposal (for example, how one should determine who is most suited to lead or ensure that the dominant voice has the wisdom to accept influence from others) demonstrates the dichotomy inherent to trying to better a system. It is always easier to destroy than it is to build, and so too it is always easier to identify flaws in an existing system than it is to design a system devoid of flaws.
There's also notable irony in the fact that Palpatines powers ultimately stem from being democratically elected on a platform that only existed to serve his goal of seizing power, meaning the "elective qualification" in the government Anakin ends up creating is still just being a power-hungry demagogue. Although there is considerable room for a counter-argument where the boundary of Palpatines platform lies. He "organised" an entire state into existence, was at one point the leader of two governments (although the second government used the resources and preferred politics of polities that existed in the same fashion when they were part of the Republic, so there was little in the way of organising to be done). This would be grounds to consider him a superb candidate for emperor. The counter-counter-argument to this is that he rallied these planets based on their mutual hatred of the common practices of the republic. That's not a raison d'etre for a peacetime government, someting Anakin considers a core aspect of good leadership, which in this case is something Palpatine didn't achieve. The Trade Federation is in so far only really a mongol horde. And last but not least, the criticism that is specific to democracy as opposed to autocracy, that of a misalignment in the qualities needed to rule and the qualities needed to be elected, is still present in autocracies. The conceit of dictatorial power is that the dictator only has legitimate power _while he is actually in power_ - when he dies, there are technically two options: He selects an heir with the appropriate skills to lead, or his leadership staff competes for the position of the dictator (in the many forms of murder, blackmailing, intimidation, etc.). In practice it will always come down to the general staff competition, the heir just gets a headstart on making power plays. Unless there are some abstract qualities you can tie to the cutthroat measures I mentioned (and those I didn't), the only thing the transfer of power in a dictatorship selects for is the ability to neuter your opponents. We can see this express itself in the most common form of dictatorship being ones led by militaries, not because they're more qualified for solving problems like famine and brain drain, but because they are automatically always in a position to gun down competing branches of the government before they can make powerplays.
@@slyseal2091 In history this is often an issue with primagenature monarchies. While systems like the much-more-shortly-lived-than-commonly-attributed Wittangemot may help, they were still restricted to the relatively small group of aethlings, and such a small group may well have no one who is qualified. But in a dichotomy, full evaluation becomes harder the larger the group, and you are at that point selecting more for acting ability than governing ability. As an interesting side-tangent, JRR Tolkien, though enamored of monarchies, seemed later in life to realize this shortcoming. That however wise Aragorn may have been, in his line would inevitably rise "One like Denethor, or worse." All this is to say nothing of the corrupting effects of power. We can again explicate a dichotomy: While in a system of strict primogeniture, assuming it is followed, there is no behavioral attractor whereing the supreme executive power attracts those already corrupt or succeptible to corruption. But in doing so we have eliminated any selection for any OTHER factor necessary for proper governance. Further, an heir who, however educated, grows up with those around him knowing full well that he shall one day have power, has their sense of empathy placed in great peril.
In fact, a republic governed by a wise philosopher king such as Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine is the perfect system in which the unlimited power is safely kept under check by the balanced maturity of this great statesman. The most suited leader is clearly the one that can ensure the safety and peace of the free and just Senator Amidala, and hence the core practical issue has been resolved, and be it by a fortunate turn of events in which such philosopher king is readily available and willing to sacrifice his love for democracy to take over the heavy burden of true absolute emperor.
@@professorhaystacks6606 But in case of Tolkien example, it is a weakness of the system, or the unavoidable entropy of humanity and the world? As, even if a new Denethor rise later on, it will be later, and considering the monarchice system robustness in the europian context we can argue thet it is may be much-much later then in a democracy where the whole system already questenable from the get go. The other point came to mind is thet a leader have to be ideal or it is enough if it is sufficent? In a sense my question is thet having an unasusming monarch who most propably pretty close in temperament and intelligent for most of his subject is still better then a democratly elected leader who are prone to be more powerhungry, overly ambitious or just a puppet of the elits who helped him gain the office.

-Jedi Master Yoda
The thought of Yoda as a deadbeat dad is just intensely funny to me. Even moreso that he just peaces out to Dagobah.
Master Yoda there is not another muppet among the thousands of planets in the republic so I have to call bull.
All the wild statements of Yoda in these skits make me worry for the eventual Yoda episode.
That however wise Aragorn may have been, in his line would inevitably rise "One like Denethor, or worse."
All this is to say nothing of the corrupting effects of power.
Exactly.

The ending freaking made this video. It implies all at once that he heard her the entire time, and is just that passionate, and it subverted the rest of the video in a way that made it funny and not just the kind of silly potentially sexist trope. Top tier writing and execution.
Not to mention Padma actually engaging with Anakin even giving counterpoints. I genuinely want to a see a full on back and forth between them.
"What is attraction if not a dichotomy between puerile lusts and considered appreciations of character and intellect"
I'd argue that due to societies on stigma about sexuality this dichotomy exists, and that those two characteristics are not inherently contradictory
No I think Anakin really thinks it was his idea to retire sexually
@@samwallaceart288 When she says, "Go as deep as you want to..." At the start, he excitedly says,"Duly Noted, " before shifting and saying,"Perhaps we can go deeper another time" He always knew
I almost died at "Next" 3:00
For those who missed them, the (mostly real) philosophers referenced were:
Thomas Hobbes
John Locke
David Hume
Isaiah Berlin
Plato

Henry Shue
Padmé used flirt unfortunately anakin is a nerd, yet somehow she still got him
A true political savant, she improvises new strategies to secure victory against impossible adversaries.
Padme thought that speccing high into Charisma would help her flirt with Anakin, but in the end, it was her investment into Intelligence that helped her woo him.
Also she should have specced a little more into Endurance, because somehow she died from giving birth to twins in a highly medically advanced birth center.
That was *her* dichotomy.
This is true. My ex basically was telling me she wanted me in many many ways. And it didn't click until she literally moved my hand to her... on a date.
@@StarPlatinum3000 to be fair there’s an implication that Palpatine somehow used her life to stop Vader from dying. Which would be why he could tell she was dead when it happened in order to gaslight Vader.
@@jeremytitus9519 Which unfortunately is further evidence to Anakin's point here.
Autistic Anakin is literally the best possible reality in the starwars universe
Special interest: dichotomy
I would rather have this one instead
@@DustunColeman I was refering to this one 🙂
dude i’ve been headcannoning him as autistic since i watched the prequels and this little silly ai series makes me feel so seen 😭😭
@@r4dbit416 He got that.
I actually verbarlly congradualted you when anakin got to the Peace, Freedom, Justice, and Security part of his summersation. Absolutley brilliant writing.
It’s even better when you realize the whole fucking thing was just building up that
@@s.nifrum4580 Ikr! cool it is
okay, for real though this video is insanely well put together with a lot of real philosophical arguments from real thinkers. if i had seen this a year ago i probably never would have realized.
hats off to the writer.
I haven't seen a comment pointing out how her attitude more so seems the shift the instant he applied his thesis to Naboo. At that moment was like "Wait, hold up, he's actually right, this stuff applies in real life?!" From then on, she was like "Let him cook."
I did not expect actual political science and philosophies in my SW shitpost.
That and Padme referencing Shue
Having a list of sources for a 12 minute AI star wars meme is insane 10/10
tbf that's essay length already, not a very long essay but long enough to make a detailed point
@@Vapor817it is a brief summary after all
Girls: Shall we retire to the bedroom?
Me: Does a full scale 5 hour lecture about retiring from work...
If it worked for the Chosen One...
Two weeks later: What, was she hitting on me?
Anakin read the whole damn library but still can't read the room.
“He hasn’t written it yet”
Clerevidence is a blessing from the force
Unironically wrote better chemistry between Anakin and Padme than George ever could have
I love how every couple of minutes Anaking will shortly mention traumatic memories that, while obviously satire, are still canonically consistent. Truly a perfect video and continuation of the series.
My wife will look forward to this when she is out of the hospital thank you for the video!!
I hope your wife recovers quickly and is not struck down by sadness.

Better watch out for Losdewiltuliv Syndrome. I hear it's the number one killer of former Jedi's wives.
She recovering from your thesis?
@sealsaregood5146 she got home last night and I'm showing here the video now.
Idk why but that "returning to our prior conversation" without missing a beat just killed me
If someone was genuinely this articulate and learned in a subject, I would listen for hours, no matter the cost.
Looks like Palpatine's claim about jedi masters always throwing themselves out of windows had some truth to it...
Who would have expected it from Obi-Wan "suicide is not the Jedi way" Kenobi (he actually says that in Legends once)
I think there's only 2 images throughout this whole video and it's more entertaining than a lot of official star wars content put out today.
That zoom-in " . . . SURE." though when she suggests that he doesn't _really_ want to abolish democracy
Better writing.
Its better than the originals for me
This is more entertaining than the movie it's riffing on.
6:35 - She was trying to say "I don't think you are using the right expression". It took me 10 attempts to read that.
Here's a pro-tip - if you're on desktop, pause the video and use , and . (comma and period keys) to go forward and backward frame-by-frame.
I use that version as a joke so it took a minute to realize it should be cross normally
I had a philosphy exam today, and I kid you not, this helped me in one of the questions
I loved the names of the 'alien' philosophers. 'Thom Ashobbes' made me laugh out loud
