Every time I see your installations in these pots I want to rip out what I have. They are just gorgeous! Wish my garden centers would have such great choices. They scream fall but not the usual mums and such. So pretty Kate!
I just loved seeing you plant in a familiar place and it gave me such a sense of pride for our home of the Pacific Northwest! I loved how you described the marine layer lifting! Such a sight that always thrills me! You did such a beautiful job explaining as you planted those gorgeous containers! I think I’m gonna have to plan a lunch date there soon and enjoy your beautiful plantings along with the view!
What beautiful combinations!!! I love the containers that you put together 🥰 Everything that you pulled out still looked so good too! What a fun job you have!
Such creative plant choices. I guess that's why you're the pro!! I had planned to take inspiration from your front entry video, but now I'm going to straight up copy your planters! I even have a spare purple heuchera that's being swallowed by a nepeta that I can use!
So excited that I used some of the same things you used! One planter (12”x27”) has the fatsia spider web, wild berry Heuchera, Zanzibar croton, arborvitae fern, white violas and creeping Jenny. I love it!!! I’m pretending to be you!!
Our fall season is so short here in zone 3 Manitoba to bother with or spend the money on changing out containers for fall. 😞. But I sure enjoy Watching and living vicariously through higher zones that can do it! 🇨🇦👏🍁
YES …….you nailed it ……thanks for sharing your ideas .I planted cannas last year in huge pot and I worked forever getting them .. .For the last couple of years I have noticed people mixing pansies and violas together, I didn’t like it ,BUT you may be winning me over 🤣😂🤣 I will be planting my pots next week,we have basically had no rain this summer, for the next 3 days Rain ,as in lots of,can’t wait to tear my summer pots out. ITS FALL YOU ALL ,as we say in the South. 🍂🍁
Hi Kate 👋 OUCH.. 😮 It pains me to see plants trashed. 😕 When you update containers, do you not need to use bio-tone? 🤔 (no criticism here, just learning the best practices 😊) Every planter turned out perfectly beautiful, I am in love with that Kale 😍 Thank you for sharing another wonderful video my friend. 😊
Hello! I absolutely love the plants you use in your videos, they are absolutely gorgeous and I have been curious of the names of some of the other plants you have put in your other videos and was wondering if you could add some of the not so common ones in your description box? I usually don't comment and just like the videos but I have to ask now because there is a green cypress that you are talking about around the 4 minute mark and I absolutely love it, so I would love to know the name of it; I have tried to read the transcripts but they don't catch the right names or words most of the time and didn't on this one either but I would love to plant it in one of my containers since I am still working on fall containers, running a little behind this year.
Kate will likely respond, but I think she said it's a Chamaecyparis 'Fernspray Gold'. My neighbour had one in the ground and they grow to be 10 feet tall, so it can have a life after the pot, though they can develop brown branches and gaps. I never would have thought of it for a pot. Such a great texture.
Gorgeous fall container plantings Kate ❤ what was the taller plants you put in the front of the Ben Paris restaurant. It was really interesting. Concrete Ponytail - hilarious 😂 We have yet another rain storm coming through my area of the UK tomorrow (there was huge flooding on Sunday - a months rainfall in less than 6 hours on top of an already saturated landscape) so I’m having to wait to purchase anything for a fall refresh and I must say this video and your porch one are totally giving me itchy feet 😂 I hope you and Brian had a giggle over my comment on your fall front porch video the other day 😊
Kate - love the pot updates. I have a question about the way that the seating behind you sees those pots. As we could not see the area in 'front' of the pots I was curious about the front vs back. So often pots are against a wall, in a corner or grouped so that other pots block a portion of that pot from view. When they are in a line, almost like a divider between spaces, do you want both directions to have the same view?
I absolutely looove your containers. Container gardening is my fave and I get all giddy watching your videos. I use a lot of shrubs and perennials combos as well. We have a brand new concrete patio that we are waiting to cure before placing furniture and pots on. Do you do anything to protect the surface under your pots? I use pot feet to help circulation on my larger containers but other than saucers is there anything else I could try? I got a kick out of the cars driving backwards down the street!!
It depends on the client. Most are cared for by their maintenance crews but I have a handful that I also visit monthly for some extra pruning and maintenance. I also have significant client events on my calendar (parties, birthdays, wedding events, garden tours, etc) so I can sweep in to spruce things up before the families host events.
So each season you totally replace the plants, and throw out the removed ones? That’s so expensive. I guess the hotel can afford it. How can we transition our front porches without having to totally replace and destroy old plants. I’ve moved towards perennials. With a small amount of annuals. Can I send a photo of my front and have you offer some suggestions?
I'm so glad that you met Janey and she suggested that you have a RUclips channel. Nobody beats your container combinations!

So fun walking by the State Hotel and Ben Paris and knowing it’s your beautiful fall containers we see!!!

Gorgeous! Curious if you also maintain these pots for your clients? Or only design/plant and let them do the maintenance?
