I am a dark romance girlie and I like what you said! To elaborate on the problematic behavior in dark romance - I think of it as more of an escape. I think we might all have our psychological reasons for liking what we like, but in no way, shape, or form would I find the toxic actions in dark romance acceptable in a real-life partner. There is a strong distinction between fiction and reality, and I find many of these books a safe place to explore those fantasies we'd never want in real life!

I personally can’t get behind dark romances. I can understand how some people use it to cope with past trauma or maybe it’s a kink or something but personally I think it’s harmful. Most of the time it is romanticizing toxic and dangerous dynamics. I can only imagine how it shapes younger women’s perspectives of how relationships should be. Like you said if you know it’s toxic and you’re reading it for entertainment that’s different. That’s why I couldn’t finish manacled. It made me depressed reading about SA for hundreds of pages. I know you really like that book but I couldn’t handle it.
I fear that the ChatGPT therapist advice might be dangerous. People shouldn't be giving away all this personal information to a site, also who knows what this ai is feeding on, it could lead to terrible outcomes. Like that one person who unalived themselves because ai Daenerys told them to.
