OK, so I just found your channel and I absolutely love it. I am a member of a few watch groups on FB, and follow several watch groups on RUclips. I have two of these, one like yours in this video and also a panda dial version. I love both of them. I could not afford a swiss chronograph so I can't compare, but I really do enjoy these Seagull Chrono's! They both work great and keep very good time.

    There is a saying:
"What's the difference between a Chinese and a Swiss watch?
    Chinese are made in-house!"
The chase for profits had made some Swiss brands sadly a material for a joke, that is why the late Hayek wanted to stop ETA from selling movements to third parties as he said everyone claimed they "made" watches, but in reality they made commercials and bought watch parts

    • @thetimeteller

Well said! To put it simply, I feel like we should judge watch manufacturers by the quality of their pieces over the regions they come from!

The majority of Swiss brands import a lot of parts from China.....by Swiss law, they only have to produce the main components, which might be 30% of the watch, and put all those parts (Chinese and Swiss) in the watch in a factory in Switzerland and Voila, a Swiss made watch at Swiss made prices, which is 70% Chinese, it is all a big Swiss scam!!! Of course there are a few Swiss brand exceptions, but not too many...made in "CH" does mean China nowdays, at least if you buy a 100% Chinese watch, you are not lied too and ripped off!! Just my 2 Swiss francs....

New Chinese PT 5000 clone ETA movement seems quite well received , the one I received in my San Martin BB Homage keeps +3to 4 sec per day. As you go down the price scale there are obviously a reduction in quality. Cronos and San Martin seem to produce a good quality watch worth the extra money. Most micro brands are made in China and many Swiss cases are manufactured in China.

I own several Swiss Chronographs and a Seagull 1963. Fit and finish on the Swiss Chronographs is superlative, but at $300 it is tough to beat the Seagull. Also check out the Lexington chronograph from Mercer Watch. Uses the same movement as the Seagull but has a higher level of fit and finish at a similar price point.

Seagull is a very good company despite the fact that their movements are on so many fake watches out there,I really love their heritage serie, especially their reproduction of the first ever watch that is fully designed and build by Chinese manufacture originally called "five star watch",their issue is similar to ETA but definitely not the same case, they are selling their movements too, their movements are basically clones of several swiss movements that are no longer under the patent protection period, sort of like what Sellita is doing,it's a swiss design, although many suggest that Chinese companis can't make them good even with the swiss technology, but Seagull proved them wrong, their movements are actually very accurate, but because China has so many fake watch workshops,it really hurts their reputation, but that dosen't mean they can't make good watches, they actually have some fully in-house high end complex movements too.

China can make some very good quality stuff. Example: Milwaukee and Bosch power tools. Chinese factories build things to a price point. If you want to buy junk, they'll make junk for you. Example: Ryobe and Harbor freight power tools. If you want something better, they'll make that too. I've purchased several Chinese automatic replica watches and they're very well made (as per my watch guy, who WILL fix replicas if something breaks, such as a crown stem or something). My hat goes off to the craftsmen of China, who will supply anything you want. They're truly in the position that America was in 100 years ago; their general manufacturing industry is simply the new tech version of what we once had. Like us, they destroyed some of their environment to get there, but get there they did!

    • @BigHenFor
      @BigHenFor 6 лет назад +1

D.E.B. B Sad, but true. They want to move away from the cheap, conversation pieces for low-income markets but, they are the markets that are growing. If a reputable watchmaker wanted to go and setup production in China to make high end watches they could. But is it worth it? Industry insiders note that many native Chinese who can afford it eschew watches made at home. They prefer Tissot. So there you are.

I own one of those watches and after 2 the chronograph seconds hand got and resets where ever it wants on the dial. Needless to that will be my last st-19 movement. I own three Hamilton watches with the 7750 and an omega moon watch pro with the mechanical non auto movement. In my opinion it's Swiss first followed by Japanese, china made movements at the bottom

Whatever you may think, the Swiss 1. Make quality products 2. They have figured out how to keep jobs in Switzerland 3. They are great at marketing. And unlike the Chinese they don't steal intellectual property from others. The Chinese that live under a repressive regime. No forces you to buy Swiss in the UK, Germany or France. Or any other free country for that matter. So buy what you want, personally I know why I buy Swiss watches and I am okay paying the price.

they were infamous watches that claimed ridiculous RRP of around $2000+ and could be found for under $100 or much less.. they had a website but nowhere could one find anything about their maker. There were about 3 makes in their stable that had similar marketing structure at the time.

A limited edition Swiss watch from the entry level brands, Fortis, Oris, Heuer, etc, gains value at a rate between 2% and 5% per annum. As others point out below, a post II World War Seiko can easily increase 10% per annum. And of course, an half-million Euro hand made watch can easily double in value in the first few years after manufacture.
A Tianjin Seagull is not up to that kind of valuation. Since this particular model is a reissue we can not yet tell the longevity of the steel used in its manufacture. But considering the incredible volumes produced by Tianjin and the standards of the Chinese steel industry, I would not expect these watches to last decades without heavy maintenance. There are plenty of users' reviews on-line that point to low assemblage quality control; there is no reason to think it is different regarding steel.
Even if Tianjin stops manufacturing mechanical watches for good today, these watches would not become collectors items, given how flooded the market is. It is really hard to present such a watch as a worthy investment.

I bought one of those chinese chronos based on this kind of biased review on youtube. Clearly a deception, quality is clearly not comparable with a Swiss, German or Japanese watch. Quality control sucks also, I had to send back the watch because hands were not correctly aligned and chrono resetting was misaligned too. And those blue hands sucks too, look like anodized aluminium at best, or worse, painted then cutted with a press.
