@@TechnicallyJeff when I click on the discounts area of your site nothing shows up, no links or details it’s just blank and they used to be there because I used yours to get the T-box not sure if it’s because I’m in the UK.
Yeah apparently a plugin on the site stopped working so I need to redo it. I've been meaning to revamp the discounts page anyway, just will take some time.
There is a car wash mode in the EV6 for the GT and GT-line. When you put the car in neutral you get a message on the display asking you to press and hold the OK button on the steering wheel. It will then lock the doors and pull the handles pack in and remain in neutral. As soo as you go into drive, it reverts back to normal.
Oh it would work keeping it in neutral and holding the brake. I just didn't want to hold the brake and didn't think about putting it in park unlocking it.
Really good info! I'm the proud owner of a green 2023 GT-Line Limited Edition I got used with only 8100 miles on it. You have been the channel I've got the most good info from as I've got used to the car, coming from a 2020 Tesla Model Y. The Tesla's black trim coloring was trying to melt off from the, I guess, acidic soap touchless car washes like to use. So I only hand wash now. I hadn't even thought about running my Green Beauty through an automated car wash, but hadn't thought about what the presenting door handles would do there. Cheers!
Congrats on the car! Yeah hand wash is best. Personally since mine is white and only a short lease, I plan on just washing it every now and then and doing it the easy way haha.
@@TechnicallyJeff Hey really appreciate the reply. And fair enough on the short term lease. I think my Limited Edition EV6 was a 1 year lease. Why someone would lease such a unique car is beyond me. Please keep making great videos! :D
I'll try! And for the leasing, I generally recommend people lease EVs at this point with the various incentives that are out there and uncertainty when it comes to resale. I leased my EV6 GT and got it for $3k under MSRP and $11k-12k in lease rebates plus $8k over kbb on my EV6 wind trade in.
According to my manual (EV6 GTLine - France, might be an other combo in some countries)-> Press lock+unlock for 5 seconds on the remote (car will flash blinkers few times to approve it) will disable the touch sensors and so pop out handles until next remote unlock
It is also sometimes tricky at the pull through car washes. You have to disengage the Auto hold, put it in Neutral and move the side mirrors in. But sometimes turning off the Auto hold doesn't diseagage the parking brake.
Oh yes I'm used to that process haha. I don't use auto hold personally so I just pop it in neutral and tap okay to keep it in neutral. Then at the end, tap the brake real quick and put it in drive and be done.
Well at least it will still run after a car wash unlike some other EV's! Jeff this is a great point fortunately I have the matt steal paint and cannot go through a car wash, but I could see where this could happen. Thank you for the PSA, I would probably freak more than you or your family!
I’ve only went to one car wash. The same type as you went to. I always just keep it in drive and keep my foot on the brake. I did this in my former ICE vehicle too. Not sure why, but I did. Good info.
@@TechnicallyJeff trust me I was still paranoid in going to even that type of car wash. Your tips in the group on fb led me to try it out. Once. I’ll stick to hand washing. Does a much better job. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge on these cars. Gonna follow you on here.
Oh man! Saved me. My ev6 is like a month old, about due a car wash and I was thinking of doing it this weekend. I have the same setting and would absolutely been shafted if I hadn't caught this.
Jeff, another solution would be to be in I-Drive. The car will be stopped and in gear, but the car wash won't move the car and more importantly, the doors will remained locked. Or, you can put the car in Neutral and put the parking brake on. That will also keep the doors locked. Thanks for the laugh. :) I have a Wind, so no self-presenting door handles.
On my GV60, I found out that you and passengers can just pull on the door handle to unlock and open the door even when the doors are locked, now I don't set it to auto unlock on Shift to P. You can temporarily change this setting when going to a car wash. The options for Auto Unlock are "Vehicle Off", "On Shift to P", and "Off".
Hmm I haven't tested that in my EV6. I'll have to look at that. If it does still unlock when you open the door (back doors too) then there's no need for the auto unlock.
Doors that automatically open like that when a person parks are potentially dangerous for women. That said, my 2023 GT resisted my attempts to shift out of neutral at the end of a traditional car wash. They had to stop the car wash so no one hit me. It took about 12 tries before it shifted to drive. Now, I wash it myself.
Yeah luckily it can be turned off. For resisting shifting out of neutral, you have to put your foot on the brake otherwise it won't shift. I just tap it quickly and shift to drive.
I got a leaflet with the car which describes what to do when you go to a car wash. So yes it states to lock to car and also what to do so the car will not go in park mode.
In my Wind I have a button for preventing a child from unlocking the door from the inside. If you have that in your GT it should prevent the doors from unlocking until you unlock them.
@@TechnicallyJeff These allegedly use lasers to manage the various wands that spray water and cleaners on the car while stopped. Nothing other than streams of liquids touch the car.
Never had this happened 😅 Also to prevent scratches i always use touchless carwash if i have to. Note that Kia does not recommend having the "wings" out while washing the car. You could not just lock the car from inside?
@@TechnicallyJeff Ah yes if the door was already ajar it won't let you lock them indeed 🙄 You should create a video on how to carwash your EV6 😅 I saw someone doing that for the EV9 🤣 step by step !
Haha not around me at least. The touchless ones don't really clean very well to be honest. Some of the ones with the spinning brushes actually do pretty well and don't scratch the car.
Two things; 1) as someone mentioned with i-Pedal, you can also use Auto Hold. 2) you can also temporarily disable the touch door unlock by going to the car settings -> doors. It's what I do when I use the (manual) car wash box with the lance (plus I disable the approach auto-open for the trunk). Edit: I just realized that in your case, not the touch unlock feature was at guilt, because you were inside the car, but I'll leave point 2 in because it might be helpful for those doing manual wash.

@TechnicallyJeff what’s happened to your discount page on your web sight?

Great tip never through of this, with a car wash with rollers will the car stay in neutral?
Yeah with rollers you put the car in neutral and in the EV6 you want to press okay when you get the prompt to keep it in neutral
@@TechnicallyJeff Thanks very easy, read other methods they were very confusing.
Yeah people like to complicate things haha
I got a leaflet with the car which describes what to do when you go to a car wash. So yes it states to lock to car and also what to do so the car will not go in park mode.
Oh really? 🤔
My GT is the matte gray. No auto washes for me lol. I do find the door handles to be a little weird in certain situations too
Haha yeah gotta be careful with the matte finish. And yeah just something to keep an eye on.
In my Wind I have a button for preventing a child from unlocking the door from the inside. If you have that in your GT it should prevent the doors from unlocking until you unlock them.
We have that, but that only impacts the rear seats. I don't want to lock my kids in or make it so they can't use their windows though.
Try the hand wash on Little River & Braddock.
oh yeah?
@@TechnicallyJeff I've used the "laser" car washes with no-touch keeping my EV 6 GT-line on auto hold / not Park and that works OK.
laser?? 🤔
@@TechnicallyJeff These allegedly use lasers to manage the various wands that spray water and cleaners on the car while stopped. Nothing other than streams of liquids touch the car.
oh interesting
I have mine set to unlock when I turn off the car instead so something like this would not happen. You could do this in the settings.
Yeah I used to have that but switched it to park so my kids could get out when we get home if I haven't turned the car off yet.

I noticed this the first time I took mine through the car wash I hit the lock button right away
Nice yeah that will be what I do as well moving forward lol
Jokes on you, I have a 2022 EV6 Wind AWD no tech package.
Haha my previous EV6 was a Wind. No issues with it on that one lol
I don't think I've seen a carwash with spinning brushes since the early 2000s, aren't they all touchless spray washes now?
Haha not around me at least. The touchless ones don't really clean very well to be honest. Some of the ones with the spinning brushes actually do pretty well and don't scratch the car.
@@TechnicallyJeff Yeah, I usually have to wash the windshield by hand first, they never get all of the bugs off.
yeah smart
Go touchless next time with roll through, no issues👍🏾 should have left it in neutral!
Touchless doesn't clean well at all unfortunately
