- So I've gotten many MANY comments over the years asking me to read One Piece, and now it's finally time! I have part one of my One Piece Ultimate reviews coming in a few days, but in today's video I explain some of my history with anime/manga and my experience reading One Piece when I was a child. I also give some of my initial thoughts! (Spoiler Alert: I'm loving it!)

To me, Eiichiro Oda and Brandon Sanderson are at about the same level as authors - the worldbuilding, the characters, the emotional gut punches with perfect delivery. They have developed their craft as storytellers to a level that keeps impressing me.

Let's goooooo!! One Piece is right up there with Sanderson, Robert Jordan and Tolkien as far as magic, worldbuilding and scope. It's still fantasy, but in a different medium. Can't wait for your OP videos!!

One Piece is truly an all-time great fantasy/manga series. You will definitely enjoy it. My top 3 fantasy series, as of now, are One Piece, A Song of Ice and Fire and TWoT.

My journey into manga started the exactly the same way. Flipped through my brothers dragon ball volumes until i was suddenly reading it. I went to my local library and where i discovered one piece and Naruto and haven't looked back since
Thank you for making this video. I actually think that the fantasy novel readers who are hesitating or are skeptical about reading One Piece will finally start reading because of you. And this is the best time to be a One Piece fan!

I am collecting the omnibus copies of The East Blue Saga and I will read that- I just need Vol 10/11/12. Then I will decide how I feel about it. When I read the Vol 1, I enjoyed it. It gave me nostalgia for the Pokemon cartoons- which is a nice place to start.
It is one of the best fantasy series ever written

Thinkmedia usually recommends to niche down in the beginning until you get a following -- and then branch out -- and I mean, you've got a large following now, so I definitively think you're doing to right thing to branch out a bit now. ^_^ 👍

I’m rewatching it because I stopped when I reached the latest chapter and I kind of forgot to keep watching every week, and then suddenly a year or two passed, so yeah. And I have to rewatch it to refresh my mind about some relevant things that happen in the early chapters, and man, I still love One Piece as much as before. In fact, I think that I love it even more ❤
I’ll be doing a re-read soon for the same reasons, and I can’t wait to start the adventure yet again, really never gets old xD ❤❤❤

i'm waiting the decade or two until it's done myself. I feel like it's going to be a story best enjoyed when you can look at the whole thing.
It's entirely up to you, but i think a huge part of the enjoyment of one piece is getting to experience it with other people
It's gonna be hard not to get spoiled on WHAT the One Piece is when the last chapter comes out

I don't enjoy reading manga and comics, but I'm planning on watching the anime soon
I like manga and anime (and Western comics). There's just a lot more out there than just One Piece, and since One Piece is so long, it tends to dominate channels. Maybe pick shorter ones or one the other fantasy channels aren't doing (my personal fave is JoJo).

@@vishwa2589 It's much longer-running (started in the 80's after all) but does actually have fewer chapters cause of a slower release schedule. But I don't know how the chapter lengths compare, cause JoJo isn't in shonen jump right? Either way it's definitely very close to the same length

I have to say. read what you wanna read. However, I'd be lying if I didn't say that I came to this channel to escape the mange hell that took over the other channels like Daniel Greene and Merphy. I understand they should post and share what they want to share. I might not just be interested. Hoping the same doesn't happen here, as you've become my favorite channel.
To be fair Daniel Greene's channel is still primarily fantasy and he's still the Wheel of Time guy, so I think that's a bit of a reach. He only comes out with manga videos once a week or two. Now Merphy on the other hand....yeah she's like 50% a One Piece tuber now lmao. I like One Piece too but I do wish she would have a bit more room for other novels here and there.

I’ve tried One Piece so many times because every major fantasy nerd I know loves it but I just… couldn’t do it. I really hate the super goofy shonen stuff

It's always that kind of goofy and funny, because the manga itself is intended to a junior high schooler and senior high schooler reader. But it has it's own depth of layering.
It has the racism, conspiracy theories, the meaning of family (found family, adoptive, etc), the meaning of chasing your dream, freedom from opression, etc.

My 1st grandchild was born this year and Ive read One Piece, watched One Piece and Ive been Tokyo One Piece Tower! So don't presume someone older than you isn't into manga and anime. Ive been reading manga since before you were in diapers, kid.
I didn't say 'don't' recommend it to your grandma, I said the opposite 😅 In the video I was saying how I think anyone could enjoy it, then said: "so what I'm saying is... GO recommend it to your grandma"
