LOL i am watching this on my 80" home theater room and the wife asked me "are you seriously enjoying this?"...i'm like "Babe, he's talking about fertilizer at an actual Home Depot and Lowes! it's like i'm really there too lol!" great video my friend!!
28-0-3 Scotts big yellow bag is what I used on my front lawn March 31. Took your pre-spray advice before application and it stuck to the weeds and they are dying off and the lawn is already starting to look better. Going to apply again at the end of April. 👍🏿 Only wish I knew about the pre-emergent strategy as I'm sure that would've gotten me even better results thus far.
Really dig your tube channel and all the great information. Been watching you for a year and this year I will follow your plan step by step I'm in the Jonesboro area
I mixed instant coffee 4 tablespoons with 2 tablespoons of fish fertilizer Atlantic and 2 tablespoons of epsom salt put in my sprayer I put it on my bermuda it spreaded fast in a week now my lawn is greener
BYD, thanks for keeping it simple! I watch your videos about everyday now. I'm learning lots! I've been looking for a Spring Fertilizer, and I think Lesco 24-0-11 is the one.
Phosphorus (P) is vital to plant growth and is found in every living plant cell. It is involved in several key plant functions, including energy transfer, photosynthesis, transformation of sugars and starches, nutrient movement within the plant and transfer of genetic characteristics from one generation to the next.
You are correct, problem is it stays in soil to long. What ever the lawn doesn’t use it leeches out. This is one of the reasons you see most LAWN fertilizers without it.
10-10-10 is more for your soil than the grass. It gives your soil the nutrients it needs and assures your grass wakes up to a healthy environment. It’s good to use right before your grass comes out of dormancy.
Thanks for the info! I have been watching another lawn fanatic on RUclips, and I appreciate the info both of you give. This is my first video of yours, and you've got a new subscriber here!
I'm a bit behind but I have Andersen's PGF Balance, which is 10-10-10. It recommended for jump starting Bermuda in early spring before green starts to show. Doesn't have anything about gardens, trees, bushes, etc. I may have to think about using it following your recommendations not to use it on lawns.
Just got some Bermuda SOD grass installed on March 16 and its coming out great! Now, I will need to fertilize the lawn 6 weeks afterwards. Which fertilizer should I buy? My lawn is about 1,300 sq ft. Thank you for the video! Great info!!
Love your channel! Great info! I'm waiting for my soil report that I sent in for. But I've overseeded winter rye with a contractor's mix with Bermuda here in SC so that as the rye dies the mix will hopefully take over (there's nothing under the winter rye, no other lawn, was just dirt when I planted the winter rye) . They're going to give me a report on what fertilizer my lawn needs but they're NOT going to consider that I'm overseeding. Should I take the ratio they give me and also make sure I pick one that also has phosphorus for the new seed? Thanks so much! Learning a lot.
Big Dawg you have a lot of info but I have a new lawn....I will follow how to get ride of the nut grass but what should I go with for a big green lawn after I take care of that. Talk to me man wifey think I need to pay someone....but I know i can do this myself man. Help me out Big Dawg!!!
Thank you for this video! I just scalped my Bermuda yard yesterday. I began to see some green poking through here in Middle GA. If I would like to do the 1inch to 1.5 inch length but my yard has been established since March '17 with sod. Would you do a 24-0-11 for spring and then I can switch to Milorganite in summer? I wonder if my yard is still being established after one year? Thank you!
I got triple 13 for my lawn. Just because it doesn't say for lawns on the package doesn't mean you can't use it. For example how many ways can you use vinegar? Or Baking soda...baking soda is for.....yup BAKING but you can you if for other things.
You are right but I’d buy something formulated for lawns. Most of those products are for trees 🌲 and shrubs. Most are 80-100 quick release. These use of 10-10-10 is more less what our grandparents used and the tradition carried over. So buy fertilizer that’s formulated for you lawn vs that and compare. If you happier with the 13-13-13 then keep using it👍🏾
You talk about Bermuda lawn so is that the way to go these days that someone lives in Virginia is it cheaper to maintain , Bermuda Lawnvs Fescue Lawn ,Jeff from va.beach
That Sunniland 24-0-11 (13:12) is a slow release and has many of the micronutrients (boron etc.) in it, including 2.5% iron. It's actually some good fertilizer and the 50lb is only $28. Also, the Sunniland 0-0-7 (13:02) has 17.2% Dimension and the 50lb bag only costs $24. These are a bargain compared to the other brands and do the same job. Don't sleep on the Sunniland products.
Great video.. so I’m in the process now to cut the grass really short and of course at first is going to look horrible brown but that is ok. What is the best fertilizer I should buy now going into September? Fast and slow release.... please help
Carlos Rodriguez lesco 24-0-11 is always a good choice. It has a fast and slow release formula plus 2 percent iron. Make sure it’s watered in same day of application👍🏾
This was very informative. I'm in Ellenwood Ga. so I just had to listen to the expert. Im trying to get my Bermuda to spread. Any tips for a rookie? When should I apply in August?
Man I know you about to be sick of me BYD, but I wanted to see if I could get your opinion. I was watching a video from "How to With Doc" here on RUclips. He has a really nice looking lawn, and he's pushing this fertilizer called "PGF Complete". I ordered a bag for my lawn but haven't put it down yet. Now I'm a little worried after watching your video here because PGF Complete has a 16-4-8 ratio. Will that 4% phosphorus be okay on my Bermuda lawn? Thanks again BYD for sharing all this great info.
It won’t hurt the lawn at all. The deal with phosphorus is it will leach out if your lawn doesn’t need it. Possibly getting into sewer system or lakes. Other than that you are good to go.
HI BYD, BERMUDA CENTRAL I WAS WATCHING 1 OF YOUR OLX VIDS , WHEN YOU WENT TO H,DPT THEN LOWES TALKING ABOUT STAYING AWAY FROM THS 10.10.10 AND 13.13.13 BUT I WAS WONDERING ABOUT IRONITE 1.0.1 JUST PUT SOMEDOWN TODAY EASTER OUTFRONT OF HOUSE WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT THE IRONITE BUD ???
soil test told me i need 12-12-12 i couldnt find it so i put down 13-13-13. this is a bermuda lawn. what do i need to put? My ground is hard and dry lots of orange clay (SC)
+Jason Montes you can buy a kit at Home Depot but I have little faith in those. Check with your local county extension and tell guide you. Mine was only 8 bucks. It’s was done by The University of Georgia, took like a week to get results, they sent it via email 😃
Dietrick McKinney I have no real solid choice here but I did do a video on how to get rid of them out the entire yard, check my channel and you’ll see it. 👍🏾
So I am blown out...Been applying 10 10 10 like crazy..how do I fix the damage.. I believe it's burning my lawn. So the real question is..what can I put on it now to keep it green?
I'm three years into my lawn (bought a new build) and it's still pretty sparse. Should I try out a starter fertilizer? I have clay soil and I'm thinking that's the problem so maybe I should try gypsum and see how that works? I guess my main question is will starter or gypsum hurt my lawn? Thanks!
I just finished the video and I think I'm going to pass on the starter even though my lawn is a little sparse. I guess I need to go do a soil test before I do anything!
I live in Phoenix az where it's already been 105, does everything apply the same here as orther parts of the country? I'm thinking of fertilizing this week
Frank Davila just depends why you stay, but a low nitrogen prude to works best if temps are extremely high. If you have an irrigation system then you can add what you like.
Heather Sowell I’ve only used a fish organic ( smell pretty bad ) and the miracle grow. A liquid fert is cool but does not have the lasting power like a slow release fert. I may use that if I’m having some company over in a few days and I want to give my lawn a quick boost after a cut. If you have a really hilly property and you have massive run off then a liquid may be better.
Byd, will you do a video on applying the miracle grow. I bought exctatly what you said and tried today. It was very hard to tell if chemical or just water was coming out. The flow was not consistent, like getting air in the line etc. I put some dye in there and I noticed quickly sometimes the water coming out was blue and other times clear (no product). I noticed if turned it up side down all product came out, but much more quicker than the 12 minutes it says. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Future video? Thanks for all you do! Do you water afterwards? Can you apply after a mow or should you wait a day etc? Tons of questions you can address in a video. I was trying to put this out on some slow/weak spots to see if it would help these areas. Thanks again!
Thank you. I am not going to try this again until I see your video. Hope the band concert went well. Looking forward to the next one. Thank you in advance!
Omar Soto go to Home Depot and get lesco starter fert and milorganite. Aerate lawn add seeds and both fertilizers at same time. Know your sq ft and apply according to directions.
BYD, I got into this channel late and now that I've found you I need some advice. My back yard is infested with weeds of all types and I've watched your videos and I need to know if it's to late to start? Let me tell you what I've purchased so far, Chapin 4 gallon 20 volt sprayer, pre-emergent Prodiamine 65WDG, POST emergent Drive XLR8 and Quincept and Image for Nutsedge and Dyne-Amic for the Surfactant. So what you think? Is it to late to spray the Prodiamine? It's March 30, 2018 that I'm posting this. Thanks You for your time.,
jodie kitt go ahead and put down prodimane before a rain or water in in. I would reccomend for a quick kill and if you have a small yard use spectrcide weed killer plus crabgrass killer that you hook to a hose, it sprays a massive swath so move fast and make sure you wet the weeds good. I have used it many times with great results before i bought a boom sprayer to pull behind my zero turn. Make sure its not raining for at least 4 days before you put it down and the warmer it is the better it works. Where u located? Im in OK and have bremuda.
Gene Manning` can only be determined with a soil test, other than that your guessing but if you must guess use Milo, it’s a 5-4-0 along with a synthetic that does not contain phosphorus.
Louis Caliste yes you can but if you already Have a great lawn then you don’t have to. But if you have weeds you will need to address those issue first.
I have lots of weeds in my yard and also large areas of bare ground. (No grass) just weeds it seems. I would like to put down seeds ASAP, but would like to know the steps. Should I blanket treat the weeds first and wait till they die before seeding? At what point should I start the synthetic fertilizer and also the organic? Can you please let me know how to start out... please and thank you. I also have a 1000 sqft courtyard, but will put down sod. Do I also need to spring fertilize that when it is put down? Thank you for your time and attention. I really enjoy your videos.
i used 6-6-6 every growing month for 20 yrs no knowledge, with a great lawn . now i use 16-4-8 lesco.much better has sulfur, iron and magn. less apps and its suggested ---per fl extension office site, they also suggest 10-10-10 balanced.its all urea not slow release, small frequent doses of different ferts was my success. i guessed right?? you finally stated why not to use it! i disagreed at first. some sandy lawns need some p, not much. thanks for the final reason. the cheap urea is lost quick, the phos sticks, not great, and potassium does not hurt. not a real value.
I love watching your videos, but man, this one was really hard to finish. I really think this could have been a 3 minute video to be honest. It should have taken only 15 seconds to talk about 13-13-13 or 10-10-10. e.g., “ Hey guys, make sure when your buying fertilizer, you don’t get the bags that say shrubs, trees, etc. because it’s not made for your lawn. For example, this 13-13-13. No good. Moving on.”
Im sorry. But the lowes in my area are trash. Its all young people or people with no knowledge of the dept that they work in. Reminds me of hellmart. I only go to lowes when the deal is good
LOL i am watching this on my 80" home theater room and the wife asked me "are you seriously enjoying this?"...i'm like "Babe, he's talking about fertilizer at an actual Home Depot and Lowes! it's like i'm really there too lol!" great video my friend!!

I enjoy it because we're in the same neighborhood lol

I've been using triple 13 for 20 odd years, its the best fertilizer on the market to me, and I've got the greatest looking lawn on my block.
These vids are great as I work at Lowes. Thank you very much - really helps me so knowledge transfer to customers and their VERY appreciative!

I've got 2 bags of 13-13-13 for some odd reason just sitting in the garage🤦♂️
Thx for the advice. I won't use them.
Woooo that was close.
Use spray fertilizer while your grass is still starting to turn green. I won't use Milo until mid/end April here in cent TX.

I just put Vigoro 13-13-13 on my Bermuda after doing top dressing. Am I screwed?! Would appreciate your insight sir!

Not really but work well with a true starter fertilizer

Miracle Gro Lawn Food is not organic correct?
Peace and love byd I was just about to ask u when is the best time to start fertilizing the lawn, for spring, until I found this video
Maybe try aerating, a generous reseeding, light top soil, then starter fertilizer. With all these damp day watering shouldn't be an issue.
You should do some soil samples and see exactly what more numbers you need to put down.
Is that the HD on Fairview Rd. in Stockbridge, Ga. ?
Stuart Duffey yes 👍🏾
I live in Phoenix az where it's already been 105, does everything apply the same here as orther parts of the country? I'm thinking of fertilizing this week
In some cases you have to fertilize according to temps. You can apply fert but with those temps you must water often.
What do I need to put for the month of June on my Bahia grass
Frank Davila just depends why you stay, but a low nitrogen prude to works best if temps are extremely high. If you have an irrigation system then you can add what you like.
BYD, how low or high should you be cutting your Bermudagrass?
Jason turner ruclips.net/p/PLyHS0iBgudYK2wS_rITd4Pep60vYVfXHn
BYD, have you ever used any liquid fert? Possibly a hose end sprayer? What are your thoughts?
Heather Sowell I’ve only used a fish organic ( smell pretty bad ) and the miracle grow. A liquid fert is cool but does not have the lasting power like a slow release fert. I may use that if I’m having some company over in a few days and I want to give my lawn a quick boost after a cut. I don't understand how you say phosphorus is bad for your lawn. I've never heard this before. Can you explain....
I’d suggest you google that question. The answer is long
I’m starting a new lawn using Bermuda seeds. Do I need to add fertilizer now(and what number) or wait till the seeds germinate?
Omar Soto go to Home Depot and get lesco starter fert and milorganite. Aerate lawn add seeds and both fertilizers at same time. Know your sq ft and apply according to directions.
Bermuda Grass Central thank you!
So if i have a established lawn i.should never use starter fertilzer?
Louis Caliste that is correct, you never ever use a starter fertilizer on a lawn that you are not over seeding on your Bermuda lawn.
Appreciate
Lowe’s In McDonough has Milorganite
Who did you send you sample to

on a side not wouldn't you need Phosphorus tho to establish deeper roots during the season and not just for reseeding purposes?
Gene Manning` can only be determined with a soil test, other than that your guessing but if you must guess use Milo, it’s a 5-4-0 along with a synthetic that does not contain phosphorus.

I WANT HIGH BERMUDA GRASS?????? WHAT TYPE Fertilizer DO I NEED TO GRAB 32-0-0
DrPhil2019 yes that will work and just don’t cut it until you desired height. Not recommended by BYD though.
I’ve just put down holts lawn food and crabgrass preventer, I’m still good on putting fertilizer down as well????

Cannot find the 15 0 15. I guess I have to order it
Hodaya Yahsharal you got a soil test done?
Bermuda Grass Central yes, I got almost the exact same result as you and they suggested the same number
Bermuda Grass Central my k was medium, and my calcium was higher than yours.
Bermuda Grass Central pH came in at 7.4
Old video. Sunnnyland 007..I don't know what that is..lol
They put way too much mulch on the trees at the homedepot
I used 29-0-4

I love watching your videos, but man, this one was really hard to finish. I really think this could have been a 3 minute video to be honest. It should have taken only 15 seconds to talk about 13-13-13 or 10-10-10. e.g., “ Hey guys, make sure when your buying fertilizer, you don’t get the bags that say shrubs, trees, etc. because it’s not made for your lawn. For example, this 13-13-13. No good. Moving on.”
Milo is pooo poooo
Im sorry. But the lowes in my area are trash. Its all young people or people with no knowledge of the dept that they work in. Reminds me of hellmart. I only go to lowes when the deal is good
Shotta Felyfe OMG 😮, I can do a video on that alone!, follow me on Instagram also, I post sales I see. Lowe’s just had an awesome sale on Spectracide.
It's that way at my local Home Depot. Bunch of kids that don't look like they wanna be there.
Thanks for the tips!
