His drawing vocabulary is unbelievable... Every shape and camera angle is already mapped out in his mind before pencil/pen hits the page. Because all it is is shapes and fills. Master those skills and good to go! Jim Lee is master legend!
Yes, it's amazing how so many of these comic artists are basically able to just print the final image on to the paper. No second guesses, just execution. Obviously not all of them are like that though. For example, I also like watching David Finch because he might change some things almost completely in the middle of the process.
Thank you, Jim for sharing your time, talent, and expertise with us. I’ve learned a great deal by just watching you create drawings from a blank canvas to a finished work.
Jim Lee is the GOAT. Met him at a convention when I was 13, he sketched Jubilee on a TShirt for me. Im 40 years old now. This guy hasn’t aged a day and his art is as good as ever
@@y_0886 it's probably just me being a jerk, but I feel like that's a given. You've been told by your parents, your teachers, and everyone along the way, and it's basically just common sense because so many people say that.
I remember being a kid and reading comics wishing I could just spy on my favs drawing, in hopes to glean some insight. It all seemed so far in my lil town. Now here we are. Truly an amazing time to be alive.
OMG! I was waiting for this! I love this so much. It brings back a HUSH vibe. Just makes me so happy to see it. And get the best over the shoulder shot tutorial i ever got. VZA honestly thank you for your hard work. I would love for Jim to draw any part of this story arc.
I always have trouble with multiple characters in a panel, so it's really cool to see how Jim lays it out. I will also be using that reverse 3/4 trick, too! I know it could be weird logistically and such, but I would love to see Jim draw a full comic page. From what the script says, to the path of the eye and finally the pencils (and maybe inks, who knows?), it would be amazing! Spoilers could be a problem, but who knows? Maybe one day!
See i would have to use photo reference to get it to look half as good as this. Jim's just like oh i think I'll put her hand here and BAM...best hand ever lol goddamnit Lee!
Watched this on Twitch live stream Jim is brilliant i even got a shout out as Thomas-marvel i was well made up..I like the fact that Jim takes the time to even learn different ways of drawing which i think is very kind.. Top talented artist who seems to have so much time for his fans which is amazing..
I love seeing the difference on technique used by people who draw like fine art prints style vs. the comic style. It’s neat. Seeing it take shape from scribble lines.
The only artist I know that overshadow the fact that The Caped Crusader, the World's greatest detective, the masked vigilante, The Dark Knight himself: Batman when he's on screen would be the fantastical, epic and awe-inspiring Jim Lee! (Just look at the comment section marvel over the sensation of Jim Lee's Bat X Cat paring)
Spectacular video!! Learned so much by just following your steps and the knowledge about structures and lines. Will have to watch again and again. Thanks so much for sharing your process. This is really kind of you. I just wish the camera angle was better.
I never miss Jim's video when it magically suddenly appears out of nowhere on my screen.Amazing,as always.Jim,you've probably been asked this a thousand times..eh..it's the paper :) what type/brand paper you're drawing on and is this your usual choice? If not, what are your other choices please? Thanks a lot!
I actually have alot of respect for the inker and colorist alot more after seeing Jim draw. Jim does such an insane job sketching and Inking that what does the inker do to improve it? LOL that is one job where you are tracing the other person's work and hoping that someone actually appreciates what you do. Then to top it all off, the colorist has to decide to pick up after the other 2 do their work and make the whole thing 'POP' its amazing the work that they do together. And its such a damn shame that the comic book industry rides a wave of highs and lows. But now that comic books are being turned into movies, maybe they are bouncing back from all the media attention?
I think I saw a similar shot like this in the new The Batman trailer. I'm really excited to see Robert Pattinson and Zöe Kravitz's version of the Bat and the Cat
I need some tips on how to get over being an "Art perfectionist" It really stops me from experimenting with my art and it makes me self conscious of doing artwork mostly because getting my lines perfect is always what comes to mind. I always look at other art works to see what I like and I try to draw the image in my head and when I try it sucks towards the end. I adore comic book art even more than anime really but it's so..."complicated and sophisticated?" I guess it's more human than anything and I guess in order to make comics as awesome as this one you HAVE to know how the body moves, and works and anatomy and it's so complicating to me I just want to draw XC...but this is AWESOME WORK!!
Sir,can you please make a video on basic drawing. I mean, figures in different positions, etc. can u plz teach us by making tutorial video on the first part of this video
was the pen he used in the beginning a 0.9mm? I have a 0.5mm one and it doesnt seem to do as much impact as the one he used. (the sakura pen thing brand)
I gave a thumbs down too ! I am fan of Batman but come on already, how about drawing of Red Hood & Harley Quin together instead or even a Bruce Lee drawing !
Watching artists draw is so calming
ASMR lol.
Agreed
You are right about that
I dont like you

Lee: u don’t have to draw the lips don’t worry about that
Also lee: *draws lips
Jim Lee's version is my favourite portrayal of Batman and Catwoman
Me too. The two of them together drawn by him is my screen saver
Faces are too flat.
@@nbip2845 No they aren't lmao
@@masteredultrainstinctaveus7733 Yes they are.
Its crazy how frantically he moves the pen yet how precise his lines turn out
Really true
If only real life actors could look this good wearing the Bat-cowl the way Jim draws him. So cool.
They could but Hollywood sucks. Comic books will always be better than movies and I'm glad.
Yeah, but then they couldn't make it out of stiff 1" thick rubber...
What did you think of Pattinson Batman cowl ?
@@GCBAW what ab the Robert Battinson movie?
Thank you, Jim for sharing your time, talent, and expertise with us. I’ve learned a great deal by just watching you create drawings from a blank canvas to a finished work.
Just a heads up... I'm just a video guy who edits these videos. To contact Jim you should try on Instagram or through his Discord channel.
I pray for the day Jim draws Batman smiling lol
Kenji Blackstar lol.
ahah
If he doesn't smile for this... he never will.
OMG this is so true!
Did you never read All Star Batman and Robin?

the thing with drawing late at night is that, that's when all( for me) the good ideas start to flow, and I just can't stop drawing
thats how i am too but yet work neglects me from being a night owl :/
I'm like that most of the time too lol
Though recently I have gotten on a kick of drawing in class
It happens the same with me, I start doing someting easy and when I watch the clock its 3 am 😂😂
Its amazing how he can just think of something in a instant and just draw it 😳😳
His sketches finished 80% of the drawing while I'm here drawing anatomy and lines and a long way to go...
Different tecniches and depends of your practice level! Anatomy has to be memorized in your mind! With time you'll get it

Saw this one on stream! Loved the tips on reverse 3/4 angle.

Fantastic artwork
This drawing makes them look so cute together
Killer art
This is now his sketchbook cover art
1 minute in and he already did more then what i can do in 30 minutes
The placement of her hand behind Bats neck showed some personality of how easily she can have it her way.Over all 8/10 alike both ways would of work.
Jim is freaking amazing
Jim Lee drawing Batman is better than some of the new guys drawing Batman in my eyes his design for Batman is awesome
What an amazing art style, found your channel the other day and can't stop watching now

There's a shot similar to this image in the new The Batman trailer

Jim lee with the Malcolm x hat is my favorite thing on the internet
EVS brought me here. About to own Lee's Cyberfrog Rekt Planet cover.

Wow he drew that straight from his imagination. I can’t even do that and I’m pretty good at drawing lol
He drew 10 to 14 hours a day 6 days a week to be able to do that

Hey, this guy's pretty good. He should apply at one of those comic companies. He might have a future in the industry.
The way he can just draw with a pen is remarkable. I am so scared of my micron pens. Why do I even have them. Because....
wow this guy should draw comics
You're joking right? lol
Nooooooo obviously no

What he got done in s minute takes me and hour. Wow. I mean he is a pro though. 😁. I’ll keep practicing though .😂
That’s what you call The midis touch.
Wow that pencil he uses in the video seems interesting to use. Does anybody know about it. If so did you like it?
Do you happen to know what size Micron he's using?
Usually 0.5 :)
Yeah, usually .5 and .3.
When using the white out I use a tooth brush and just flick the bristles and it creates perfect night sky effect.

VZA thank you so much...
Imagine doing all of that work just to spell your name wrong on the signature
Love this style of comic art! Does anyone know the style of this or any artists who do similar styles, would love to learn this!
A lot of the videos I post feature artists with similar styles.
I don’t know who drew Batman and catwoman better Jim lee or Jason fabok
My vote goes to Jim.
I mean there are both great artists, so you can’t quite decide

He usually starts with a .5mm... it could be that the camera is zoomed in.
It's easy to create such an epic character.
First : copy superman and put gloves on him
Second : Change his cape
Third : Call Bill Finger for help
Need to know what he use for the whites in this vid. Please!
Saul E Sanchez S its just white out

I gave a thumbs down too ! I am fan of Batman but come on already, how about drawing of Red Hood & Harley Quin together instead or even a Bruce Lee drawing !
So you gave it a thumbs down because of repetition, and not the actual quality of the drawing? That pretty weak imo.
Justin Guerra yeah weak
Come on, Jim obviously could drawn Batman in his sleep ! If you think about it , Jim drawing Batman is like Lebron dunking a basketball.
Respect for your job...1000x curtsey...Bye and highfive
