There's a thing you always did with Batman's cape, a little spike around where he'd grab it. It was awesome. Made it look even more batlike. I miss it.
As an artist, the way you describe how you take your experiences and things you've seen in order to essentially guide your hand at around the 10 minute mark while drawing the head is actually very spot on. Your wisdom and experience shows, mad respect!
I love the longer format, it lets you draw with more detail and gives us more to watch. I might have made the thumbnail more of the final drawing, just because when we share it online, I'd think you'd get more hits from the look of the final product.
He said "..that would leave alot to the inker. God knows we don't want that..." hahaha. I have not been to the comic book store in a decade, he makes me want to go make a visit. I asked my older comic book collecting brother has he ever heard of this artist.. no hesitation he said.. yeah GREEN LANTERN.
Dear EVS, I am grateful for your channel. I'm not an artist by any stretch. But drawing and sketching was one of the skills I had and that I lost when high school was over. You channel isn't just a place to indulge in comic books, but a means for me to live vicariously, watching you draw is deeply satisfying. And that canister trick with the knees is something no teacher ever taught us. Thank you.
I haven't drawn since high school (had never put the time in to improve) but these videos are getting me excited. I may go out and get some supplies soon .
Hey man, I just stumbled across your Star Wars videos and loved them. You are genuinely hilarious. I love your sarcastic tone and mannerisms. Obviously, those videos led me to more of your content such as these. I’m not an artist, and I find what you do amazing. I’m going to subscribe and I look forward to more, especially your Star Wars content. Fuck Disney Star Wars.
I've seriously learned more about the comics industry behind-the-scenes process from your videos than I have from every other source combined. Truly fascinating and neat! Love your work as always.
Every single time I start one of these videos, I'm suddenly and mysteriously trapped by unknown forces until the video finishes. Curse you, Ethan Van Sciver! Curse you for imprisoning me!!
You, sir, are too much. Awesome vid! I'm def going to try this when I can. I have a new 114 pc set art supplies wooden box coming in a few days. It should include most of what I need, minus the paper and a few templates. I'm excited to get back to my first love, drawing superheroes. With creative writing, I should be pretty good when I graduate with my master's degree in Sept 2019. See you on the other side.
I'd like to see how you would ink this drawing. Particularly how you would handle the arm that is in deep shadow and overlaps the cape that is also in deep shadow.
Why isn't there a "Love" button on RUclips? Lol, like seriously, I've been working at TSA for 15 going on 16 years now, drawing every chance I get (while I work 😋). I've always wanted to know how much a comic book artist get paid, and I was literally thinking about this yesterday lol. Now, I'm even more motivated to complete a portfolio, and to continue sharpening my skillz. Could you do a video on what should be in a portfolio, or if you have made a video on that already, could you direct us to it? Thank you Uncle Ethan. In just a day, you've awakened talents within me that I really didn't know were there. 👊
I would say 3 pages, establishing shot using perspective, showing that you can draw cars, environment, normal people, expression, body language, suspense build up finishing on a dynamic action shot. Do several of those, it doesn't matter the character.
You're pretty cool. I do like Batman with the trunks better, but that's a matter of opinion. I do also like the oval shape for the logo. You draw a great Batman.
Thanks, for the video. I find watching these drawing videos, very inspiring, and very informative. Please keep doing things like this, I gain so much more appreciation for your art after watching.
I'm not sure about anyone else, but I find it fun to skip to the end of the video to see the finished drawing first, and then go back and watch how it's drawn.
New to the channel you taught me how to draw my original character can you do teaching like inking with a sharpie learn how to draw Jim lee wonder woman? Please and thank you
Amazing! I'm a Guitarist but I admire your craft greatly! I'm still trying to work up the guts to buy a pencil and sketchbook. I know who my instructor will be though.
I love this shit. Although they always make it look so easy, neglecting to mention how much knowledge of anatomy you need to go with the "simple" procedure.
My first memory of me drawing or drawing somethin it would make me proud and also my teacher and mom i was in kindergarden and i drew a donald duck rubber figure i had ,i remember it was way advanced for my age and as time passed i stopped developing my skill and it is something i regret cus now i would like to draw stuff but they wont come out like i wany to ,i need to practice practice and practice and watch some videos around here
Hey Ethan, just a quick tip, as I've seen some other comments about this as well. Show is a picture of the finished drawing somewhere at the beginning of the video, that way we have an idea of what we're going for. Great video, thanks for these.

10 years from now there will be a generation of comic artists that grew up on these videos.
YES! And we're halfway there.
This guy is like Bob Ross telling us "Anyone can paint" but most of us end up with botched drawings. XD
I love when a super talented artists say, "here's something for beginners" and proceeds to draw an amazing advanced piece.
I love the longer format, it lets you draw with more detail and gives us more to watch. I might have made the thumbnail more of the final drawing, just because when we share it online, I'd think you'd get more hits from the look of the final product.
colmortimer1066 I just learned about how to make thumbnails, so I took your suggestion!
These instructional videos are relaxing as hell.
JF ASMRish
Who needs weed when you have EVS? More chill than a bong.
hell relaxes you?
Bloody Hell..
I wish this is what the whole channel was....
Awesome Batman drawing. The two dislikes were from Alden Ehrenreich and Kathleen Kennedy
He said "..that would leave alot to the inker. God knows we don't want that..." hahaha. I have not been to the comic book store in a decade, he makes me want to go make a visit. Great channel, huge fan
This is just... Wow. It encapsulates every reason why I want to be a good artist.
Lmao, favorite part was. "Hope that doesn't demonitize this video" thanks for doing these videos.
When it's one direction of lines it's simply "hatching." Great job, Ethan!
Your tone and phrasing gets so Bob Ross. Awesome.
Dear EVS,

Very cool stuff Ethan.
I never watched your drawing videos before, but now that im sitting here, this inspires me to draw again. Thank you.
Batman was the first comic character I ever drew. I think I was about 3 or 4. Adam West was MY hero! lol.
Having a wander through old vids. Many many thanks EVS you're a good man, keep up the good work.
"this leaves a lot open to the inker and God knows we don't want that" lol, great video and tut, glad I found your channel!
I haven't drawn since high school (had never put the time in to improve) but these videos are getting me excited. I may go out and get some supplies soon .

I love this drawing. It would be cool if you did one of all of the different styles of Batman from the original to current.
Every single time I start one of these videos, I'm suddenly and mysteriously trapped by unknown forces until the video finishes. Curse you, Ethan Van Sciver! Curse you for imprisoning me!!
> I wonder if Bob Ross ever said...
...happy little Batclouds. Happy little bats.
Bro I love the fact you actually show us how to do the drawing other channels will time lapse and skip things so thanks man

You're pretty cool. I do like Batman with the trunks better, but that's a matter of opinion. I do also like the oval shape for the logo. You draw a great Batman.
Awesome. Please draw as much as you are comfortable doing!
Can you upload a video where anyone can draw Batman well? Mine looks like he has rickets or something.
Constant practice results to a better drawing

I'm not sure about anyone else, but I find it fun to skip to the end of the video to see the finished drawing first, and then go back and watch how it's drawn.
I never thought of that, I'll try that.
It helps me if I'm drawing along since I'll have that finished version in my mind's eye while drawing my own.
It spoils the surprise.
Anyone can draw batman... Just not like that. Awesome pic man. You deserve every subscriber and much more on your talent alone.
Whoa
New to the channel you taught me how to draw my original character can you do teaching like inking with a sharpie learn how to draw Jim lee wonder woman? Please and thank you
Great plot twist. I didn’t see the change-over to Superman coming.
You deserve more subscribers
Man, loving these. Keep 'em coming man!

Amazing! I'm a Guitarist but I admire your craft greatly! I'm still trying to work up the guts to buy a pencil and sketchbook. I know who my instructor will be though.
Robbie Binns just do it man, it’s like guitar it’ll take some time.
A few questions:
1. Do you have a reference image when you are drawing this?
2. How do you manage to draw the proportions of the body so well?
First! Your videos make me want to draw again.
Aww... I was here too...
Do it!
I even bought some holders extra leads and books
Damn, great video!
Won't Batman's gauntlet scallops stab through the cape he is holding?
Straight up Bob Ross moment at 5:05. Nice.
Awesome.
Now THAT’s my Batman. With the yellow-oval batsymbol.
Maybe he could draw 1950's Batman.
I love this shit. Although they always make it look so easy, neglecting to mention how much knowledge of anatomy you need to go with the "simple" procedure.
stay awsome....you need 2 channels, one drawings the other Star wars
I know this is three years since you posted this video but I really enjoyed it you make me wish I love drawing again
Love your channel man!

EVS's channel is the Bob Ross of comic book art.
Do you add as much detail (as you did in this drawing) if you know another artist is going to ink your pencils?
OllieByGolly Even more, actually
I love it
Ethan's eyebrow drawings are very peculiar, particularly on Batman.
Damn.
Please do more drawing vids!!! How about Spider-Man next?!
Hey Ethan, just a quick tip, as I've seen some other comments about this as well. Show is a picture of the finished drawing somewhere at the beginning of the video, that way we have an idea of what we're going for. Great video, thanks for these.
its youtube, just zip to the end and back
Funny thing people think Batman is hard to draw for me it was always more difficult to draw superman for a reason still don't know why
3:52 is as good as I ever get freehand.
