    How do you feel about Artemis’ darker side? Do you feel these stories about her would have served their purpose? Let us know what you think!

    Another good episode. Every goddess should have a dark side. In the case of Artemis, it shows that she was dangerous but disciplined. She only punished those that disrespected her or harmed others. I always enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work.

    Artemis the moon goddess is the best. You know if you were respectful and chose to devote yourself to her--she is a powerful ally indeed.
    She has a soft spot for all young women and young children in their time of need. Don't hesitate to call to her when you're in trouble.
    She punished mortals who harmed innocent children, animals and women and of course her family and those who scorned her worship.

      🌊I love Artemis because I have 2 things in common with her. We both want to stay virgins. We both hate people who hurt innocent women & children. Is Artemis against abortion, even in the case of rape? It sounds like she is, but I'm not sure.

    Before learning about Artemis, I have generally lived my life like she does. I care for the innocent, but also punish those who deserve it. I'm generally incredibly nice and will help those in need. But those who have crossed me in their own malevolent ways are shut out from my benevolence. Artemis is such an interesting goddess with the many stories and symbols that can all still be tied together today. Hunting, moonlight, and lessons learned.

    I got a book of Greek myths that said that Orion was Artemis' companion and that her brother Apollo caused Orion's death. It was from D'Aulaires.

    • @betanya2994
      @betanya2994 4 месяца назад

      You are not wrong. Unfortunately as it commonly happens in mythology there are many different versions of a story. In one version it was Gaia, the Earth mother goddess who killed Orion because he proclaimed that he will hunt and kill all the creatures of the Earth which technically are Gaia's children so she sent a Giant scorpion to kill him. It will definitely explain the constellation of Orion near the Scorpion. In other version Apollo got jealous of Orion because he is with Artemis all the time. He feared that Artemis has fallen in love with Orion and is worried for her and her vow of Chastity. Apollo is an over-protective brother and do he challenged Artemis to a shooting competition. Whoever can shoot a rock in the middle of the sea wins. Artemis is very competitive and prides herself as the better hunter/archer but she unknowingly shot Orion who was swimming at the time.

    Thank you for this video ! I have always wondered if fishing falls under Artemis' influence or not. She is the goddess of the hunt, and wild animals, so it would make sense that fishing, as an activity that happen in the wilderness to prey upon something is Artemis' affair. But I've never seen anyone talking about that. Or maybe, as fishes are aquatic creatures, does fishing falls under Poseidon or Achelous (god of rivers) sphere ?

    • @betanya2994
      @betanya2994 4 месяца назад

      Yes, i thought of this as well. Fishing is hunting but in the water after all but indeed i believe this will be a domain of a water deity instead. Fun fact: Artemis has control over tides, she is called Mistress of Tides, a domain that she has over Poseidon which I think is so cool.

    • @BiohazardBunney
      @BiohazardBunney Год назад

      Orion was theorized to be her lover, other times just a desperate creep who wouldn't leave her alone. Plus Endymion was Selene's lover, not Artemis.

    • @Benevolent_Fafnir
      @Benevolent_Fafnir Год назад

      @@BiohazardBunney according to both Hyginus and Istros she loved him, and this was the version most prominent in Rome/Italy/Magna Grarcia.
      Also, Endymion was Selene’s lover yes, but if you take into account the Hellenistic practice of worshipping Artemis as the Triformis then Selene and Artemis are one and the same and thus Endemyion was also one of Artemis’s lovers.

    • @panagiotis7946

      @@WorldHistoryEncyclopedia In essence, the legend of the Amazons commemorates an old era of matriarchal social organization, of the Greek space especially in the area of Atticoboia. Perhaps from the era of the Mynians?
      This is evidenced by the war between the Athenians and the Amazons as well as the place names that were associated with them, such as the Thermodon river which was near the city of Thebes.
      Later, when the matriarchy receded, the myth created by the new structure of the patriarchy gradually places them, more and more distantly, at the ends of the Greek space.
      In mythology, this prototype is expressed by the heroine Atalanti as well as the goddess Artemis

      She is mentioned in Linear B script 1500 BC along with other Olympian gods
      She also has other names such as Potnia, Toxobola etc. all Greek names.
      In polytheistic religions it is very common for the properties of the gods to match
      What is important is the plot of the mythical stories that accompany the gods and the symbolism of the myths
      In this, Greek mythology is unique worldwide in a specific place and time

      Artemis is certainly a goddess of contradictions. Her fertility aspect was from her worship in Ephesus (Asia) and is not the same as the Hellenistic (Greek) worship of Artemis. In mythology it is not uncommon for a goddess of a particular culture to be adapted to another. In Greek mythology she is the goddess of Chastity but also of childbirth because in her myth from the moment she was born, she helped her mother Leto to give birth to her twin Apollo. She is older than Apollo and had an easy birth meanwhile Apollo's was a painful and difficult labor so she technically became her mother's midwife, thus women on labor and childbirth pray to her for an easy and safe delivery. She chose to be a maiden goddess because she witnessed her mother's hardships in labor and childbirth as punishment from Hera who cursed her because Zeus got her pregnant. It doesn't help that her father is a well-known womaniser 😅 Artemis is my fave goddess and I can talk about her forever.😊
