I feel that the antics of the Olympian gods were quite inspiring. They were to me at least. I would choose 'Athena' as my patron because, she was the first deity I encountered in life; and is also the most memorable. Thanks!

I’d be an Aphrodite follower, because she is the oldest deity amongst all of them and she was present before Greek Mythology. She’s not just the goddess of beauty and love but also the goddess of life force and protector of the heavens. (Known as Astarte, Inanna, Ishtar and Venus) Even in Greek Mythology there were three different depictions of her. In one of them she was depicted as a war goddess but I suppose Greeks had one too many of those. She was known as Aphrodite Urania, (Which symbolised pure love, it was a little infused with Christianity views and ripped her off her sexual side.) Aphrodite Pandemos; the goddess of the people and Aphrodite Areia; the war goddess. But most of all I would follow Aphrodite because she is the only female Greek goddess that is bound by her own choices, she doesn’t turn herself into a religious virgin figure to prove her purity, neither does she agree to sit and wait to be pursued and forcefully married. She makes her own choices, guided by her own emotions. She’s a free woman and a free goddess. To me Aphrodite is the most noble goddess regarding female independence.
Aphrodite does not come before Greek myth. That would mean Uranus came before Greek mythology. Everything in the origins stories are a part of the mythology. If we're talking about reality and not myth, much of the gods originate from Mesopotamia and Anatolia and were adapted by the Greeks to fit their world.

I'm an amateur astronomer and the connection between mythology and the celestial bodies and constellations always fascinated me. One thing that confuses me is the Greek gods that are usually related to the Sun and the Moon. If Apollo and Artemis are related to those, where Helios and Selene fit in the history? Are they in another category of beings?
Yes. Selene and Helios are third generation Titans, and In some myths, the personification of the Sun and Moon as opposed to simply beings responsible for them. Helios and Selene originally had the role of riding the chariot carrying the sun and the moon, but lost popularity over time, and the roles were given to Artemis and Apollo.
The Titans are the personification so Helios and Selene is the sun and moon respectively. Apollo symbolizes the light of the sun and Artemis symbolizes the light of the moon.
He also treats his wife persephone well (apart from the whole kidnapping thing but you can't judge the past by the morals of the present), and cerberus means spotted, so he even has a dog called spot 😊

I've always had a liking for Athena. Maybe she has a penchant for pettiness, such as the story with Arachne, but she is still a very interesting figure.
If you are reading Ovid's version of the Arachne story, then Athena seems petty. The original Greek myth had kept intact Athena's usually reasonable demeanor.

Without a doubt, I’d choose Pallas Athena as my patron goddess.

I’ve discovered that tropes from Greek mythology can be found in the Bible. For instance, Prometheus’s punishment for helping humans was being hung from a rock and having an eagle eat his liver from the right side of his body. Likewise, a similar trope was used in the story of Jesus. Being hung from a cross then being pierced in n the right side (the liver) by a Roman guard represented by the eagle. The Egypto-Greco-Roman literary influence is massive!
World History Encyclopedia Hello! I got this crazy idea for an art project called 12 Gods. The idea is to break Capitalism/Consumerism into 12 distinct characters as an adaptation of the Ancient Greek myths. Looks like Hermes is the best archetype. But it's the interactions between the gods and the narratives they create that has the most appeal to me. Thanks!
Why the lightning? Why the supreme god of Olympus Zeus had for weapons and attributes the lightning which is far from being the most fearsome natural phenomenon, the most destructive and the most powerful? Why are the thunderbolts of Zeus forged by the Cyclops, and why do the Cyclops have only one eye? What if all this is the poetic description of our consciousness and our nervous system? What if lightning is the tool of Zeus not as a weapon of destruction but for another reason and particularity ? Basing on that Zeus in his kingdom is our consciousness in our body, this is how we could interpret it: According to the Myth, especially in Hesiod, the three Cyclops brothers (thunder, lightning and thunderbolt) were already there long before the arrival of Zeus, they were among the first Titans child of Ouranos and Gaia, just like the nervous system that is already starting to develop in the fetus still in the womb. The cyclops symbolize the nervous system with all that accompanies it, the 5 senses, the instinct and the reflexes that manifest themselves and interact instantaneously at the speed of lightning (this is why the cyclops are lightning smiths) and always in the only instinctive and natural way (this is why they have only one eye symbolizing the only natural and instinctive way and vision to act and react). With the arrival of Zeus (the conscience) the cyclops allied with him in the titanomachy by providing him with lightning to take over and control over the whole kingdom, this symbolizes the consciousness of the child who takes control over his body by learning to manipulate with his hands, with his feet to stand up and walk, talk, ... etc. But Zeus shares control of the kingdom: To Poseidon he cedes the oceans, the seas and the rivers, Poseidon is our heart which functions independently of our consciousness by circulating the rivers, the seas and the oceans of our blood in our body. To Hades he cedes the bowels and depths of the kingdom, Hades symbolizes our intestines that also function independently of our consciousness. Interesting and mysterious coincidence, the functioning of the brain and all the nervous system is electrical impulses (micro lightning) =) Zeus controls the kingdom with lightning as we control our body with electric impulses =) Or this is not a coincidence!? =)
Very interesting. DM Murdock (aka Acharya S) was a brilliant American woman who went to Greece with her Psychologist Dad in childhood and was fascinated with Greek lore. She had a working knowledge of 11 languages and wrote many books. I would term her as an Agricultural Astro-Theologian. Look her up. Her first book THE CHRIST CONSPIRACY, THE GREATEST STORY EVER SOLD and I learned about her from Peter Joseph's great movie. Zeitgeist. The first 29 minutes of Zeitgeist is based on her work with Astro-Theology. She proved, hook, line and sinker that ALL Religions are pure Myth, based on the Adoration of the Sun and the alignment of the planets and stars. Naturally she was attacked by not only Christians but by die-hard Atheists. Go figure. She died very young at the age of 55.
Iphigenia is almost always depicted as being sacrificed to the gods so that the Greeks would regain the winds and could sail for Troy. I'm curious where you guys found a story that depicts her as being saved by Artemis? Do you have a link to it? I would love to check that out. Of course, there are many contradictory accounts of Greek myths!
Now, my favorite god would be hacate, but i have a few favorites... My favorites are hecate, nemesis,ares, and Artemis. Hecate is very powerful, even though she isnt a olympian. She is the goddes of magic, witchCraft, necromancy, the light, the moon, and is very strongly associated with the crossRoads. Nemesis is the goddess of revenge, but she also is not a olympian. This is because she is a minor god. Ares, Ares is the god of war, seeing as im a aries, i get in alot of fights everywhere i go, he is one of my favorites. I also like Rtemis, she is the giddess of the hunt, child birth, the moon, vegetation, and many others. I like her because she can shapeshift, she loves animals, and many others...wait..i forgot 2 more. Hades and hestia. I really like hades, mostly because i love mythology, gjosts, witcges, anything to do with greek mythology or holloween..he is the god of the underworld..he can also cause earthquakes.his dog, Cerberus, is a three headed dog that is huge. He is also the maker of the kraken. Hestia: hestia is the goddess of the home, the hearth, and the goddess of cooking. I love food...soooooo... The mother of Dionysus is not pronounced Semeel. Her name is made up of three syllables, the Greek being Σεμέλη. This isn't the only video that gets it wrong.

Minthe is a Naiad who was turned into a mint plant by either Persephone or Demeter, when she said that she was better than the Goddess of the Underworld (Persephone). Although, as with most myths, there are a number of different versions of this myth.
Athena and Ares always find a way back to each other so could we agree at least agree to be less heliocentric? We should decree, Uranus is god of the heavens' while Gaia is of the earths'!
Here's an interesting topic. Was Jesus the son of Metis, wife of Zeus? If you read the myth about Zeus and Metis, Zeus was always fearful of Metis having a son who dethrone Zeus. Zeus swallowed Metis to keep Metis from having a son that but resulted in Athena emerging from Zeus forehead. What if Metis didn't have a son with Zeus, but kept the seed hidden and secret until a time she could plant the seed in Mary, Mother of Jesus? The myth does kinda fit together, either Mary was able to reproduce internally without male interaction or the 'light' came into Mary that Metis had seeded Mary with. The fact that a country wide hunt for the "Son of God" took place after rumor had it that an extraordinary birth outside the realm had taken place. A birth that would topple the old religions. In this case "God" could have been a veiled name given to Zeus, an etherical shield, where the manhunt for the Son of God or Zeus as matter of fact, ended up with turmoil being created across the land in the form of the first born son of each home being taken and cast out of life. Turmoil that saw the greatness of Rome, including Jupiter, King of Roman God's, who was a carry over from Greece, where Jupiter, like Zeus, who were both King of Gods, destroyed. Jupiter and Rome were set asunder after Jesus's birth and eventual crucifixion that does complete the story of Zeus' power being undone by a Son of Metis.
The Greek pantheon was largely adopted from Phoenician pantheon. Zeus corresponds to Ba'al Hadad. Mt Olympia corresponds to Mt Sapan/jabal Aqra. In fact the Greek alphabet is adopted from the Phoenician alphabet. Even the idea of democratic city states was first in Phoenician cities.
Learn history my friend before you become a misinformer. Phoenicians were created by Greek Phoenix and ruled as Persia, Egypt and many other major cities all over the Mediterrenean sea by Greek Kings till Rome. Rome also created by a Troan (Greek). I think that means the Greek Epoch was the height of white supremacy and it has been declining ever since then.

Now we all know that the right side is the good side as it represents summer and crop production (six days in Gen 1). The left side is another matter, as this side represents winter and the period of non crop production (six nights in Gen 1) and is represented by the left testicle (Hoa/Hea). The two testifiers are Oni on the Right and Hoa on the left. The rod/staff just above these twins is called Asher. With these twins he gets the sign Gemini, which is also Philadelphia. How about the Golden Ram, of Greek myth, that became the Ram that Abraham sacrificed? This same Ram is still in the Heavens as the Aries constellation which is also the constellation of Gad, who was borrowed from Latin myth. Here we have Benjamin (Libra) and Gad (Aries) what a pair they make! I'll bet some pick up on the word Hoa which comes the Greek word for water an naturally the Moon. Take a look at the words Medad and Eldad and Moses. The Mo in Moses is Egyptian for WATER. Moses can be spelled as Meses, Mises, and Muses. Back to Medad = two words of water + lover = Libra and Eldad aka El (Ram) + dad/lover = Aries. Moses is a pesonifcation of the man with the water pot (Aquarius constellation). Moses like, Ganymede, was so beautiful that Zeus fell head over heels in love with him and transformed himself into an Eagle (Aquila constell) and carried him (Aquarius) to the top of Mount Olympus (Exodus 19.4). Moses/Ganymede was the boy/toy of Zeus and with his "water pot" was the "cup bearer" to the gods. Let's hope Moses/Ganyemede has plenty of vaseline to lubricate his rear "doorway to heaven."

Science is a form of religion resulting from the Age of Enlightenment transitioning cultural emphasis on rationality and science as a means of understanding the human condition. When reflecting on what "defines" a religion people thing of idols, ritual , place of worship, procedures of worship, method of salvation, etc. Putting science into that framework idols are easy enough to figure out (microscopes, etc. ), ritual/procedures of worship= scientific method, place of worship = labs and research organizations, method of salvation= our own intellect/repeatable results indicating evidence of results.,,, as you noted it will solve our problems. Arguably, science has caused as many problems as more "accepted" forms of religion. With that said, you are absolutely correct about accepting the anglo gods (i.e. modern science) yet science and a large number of our cultural components are middle eastern (northern Iraq/Syria) in origin. Hebrew text also was derived from there.

I’ve discovered that tropes from Greek mythology can be found in the Bible. For instance, Prometheus’s punishment for helping humans was being hung from a rock and having an eagle eat his liver from the right side of his body. Likewise, a similar trope was used in the story of Jesus. Being hung from a cross then being pierced in n the right side (the liver) by a Roman guard represented by the eagle. The Egypto-Greco-Roman literary influence is massive!
World History Encyclopedia Hello! I got this crazy idea for an art project called 12 Gods.
The idea is to break Capitalism/Consumerism into 12 distinct characters as an adaptation of the Ancient Greek myths.
Looks like Hermes is the best archetype. But it's the interactions between the gods and the narratives they create that has the most appeal to me. Thanks!

More of a Hellenic Pantheon. Greater Greece areas like Thrace etc had pantheons with many more gods eg Orepphic pantheon
Why the lightning?
Why the supreme god of Olympus Zeus had for weapons and attributes the lightning which is far from being the most fearsome natural phenomenon, the most destructive and the most powerful?
Why are the thunderbolts of Zeus forged by the Cyclops, and why do the Cyclops have only one eye?
What if all this is the poetic description of our consciousness and our nervous system? What if lightning is the tool of Zeus not as a weapon of destruction but for another reason and particularity ?
Basing on that Zeus in his kingdom is our consciousness in our body, this is how we could interpret it:
According to the Myth, especially in Hesiod, the three Cyclops brothers (thunder, lightning and thunderbolt) were already there long before the arrival of Zeus, they were among the first Titans child of Ouranos and Gaia, just like the nervous system that is already starting to develop in the fetus still in the womb. The cyclops symbolize the nervous system with all that accompanies it, the 5 senses, the instinct and the reflexes that manifest themselves and interact instantaneously at the speed of lightning (this is why the cyclops are lightning smiths) and always in the only instinctive and natural way (this is why they have only one eye symbolizing the only natural and instinctive way and vision to act and react).
With the arrival of Zeus (the conscience) the cyclops allied with him in the titanomachy by providing him with lightning to take over and control over the whole kingdom, this symbolizes the consciousness of the child who takes control over his body by learning to manipulate with his hands, with his feet to stand up and walk, talk, ... etc.
But Zeus shares control of the kingdom:
To Poseidon he cedes the oceans, the seas and the rivers, Poseidon is our heart which functions independently of our consciousness by circulating the rivers, the seas and the oceans of our blood in our body.
To Hades he cedes the bowels and depths of the kingdom, Hades symbolizes our intestines that also function independently of our consciousness.
Interesting and mysterious coincidence, the functioning of the brain and all the nervous system is electrical impulses (micro lightning) =)
Zeus controls the kingdom with lightning as we control our body with electric impulses =)

Very interesting. DM Murdock (aka Acharya S) was a brilliant American woman who went to Greece with her Psychologist Dad in childhood and was fascinated with Greek lore. She had a working knowledge of 11 languages and wrote many books. I would term her as an Agricultural Astro-Theologian. Look her up. Her first book THE CHRIST CONSPIRACY, THE GREATEST STORY EVER SOLD and I learned about her from Peter Joseph's great movie. Zeitgeist. The first 29 minutes of Zeitgeist is based on her work with Astro-Theology. She proved, hook, line and sinker that ALL Religions are pure Myth, based on the Adoration of the Sun and the alignment of the planets and stars. Naturally she was attacked by not only Christians but by die-hard Atheists. Go figure. She died very young at the age of 55.

Iphigenia is almost always depicted as being sacrificed to the gods so that the Greeks would regain the winds and could sail for Troy. I'm curious where you guys found a story that depicts her as being saved by Artemis? Do you have a link to it? I would love to check that out. Of course, there are many contradictory accounts of Greek myths!

Now, my favorite god would be hacate, but i have a few favorites... My favorites are hecate, nemesis,ares, and Artemis. Hecate is very powerful, even though she isnt a olympian. She is the goddes of magic, witchCraft, necromancy, the light, the moon, and is very strongly associated with the crossRoads. Nemesis is the goddess of revenge, but she also is not a olympian. This is because she is a minor god. Ares, Ares is the god of war, seeing as im a aries, i get in alot of fights everywhere i go, he is one of my favorites. I also like Rtemis, she is the giddess of the hunt, child birth, the moon, vegetation, and many others. I like her because she can shapeshift, she loves animals, and many others...wait..i forgot 2 more. Hades and hestia.
I really like hades, mostly because i love mythology, gjosts, witcges, anything to do with greek mythology or holloween..he is the god of the underworld..he can also cause earthquakes.his dog, Cerberus, is a three headed dog that is huge. He is also the maker of the kraken. Hestia: hestia is the goddess of the home, the hearth, and the goddess of cooking. I love food...soooooo...
While those are my favorites, my least favourites is hera and zeus. Zeus is a man whøre. And hera, she threw hephaestus OFF MOUNT OLYMPUS. :

Was Jesus the son of Metis, wife of Zeus?
If you read the myth about Zeus and Metis, Zeus was always fearful of Metis having a son who dethrone Zeus. Zeus swallowed Metis to keep Metis from having a son that but resulted in Athena emerging from Zeus forehead.
What if Metis didn't have a son with Zeus, but kept the seed hidden and secret until a time she could plant the seed in Mary, Mother of Jesus?
The myth does kinda fit together, either Mary was able to reproduce internally without male interaction or the 'light' came into Mary that Metis had seeded Mary with.
The fact that a country wide hunt for the "Son of God" took place after rumor had it that an extraordinary birth outside the realm had taken place. A birth that would topple the old religions.
In this case "God" could have been a veiled name given to Zeus, an etherical shield, where the manhunt for the Son of God or Zeus as matter of fact, ended up with turmoil being created across the land in the form of the first born son of each home being taken and cast out of life. Turmoil that saw the greatness of Rome, including Jupiter, King of Roman God's, who was a carry over from Greece, where Jupiter, like Zeus, who were both King of Gods, destroyed. Jupiter and Rome were set asunder after Jesus's birth and eventual crucifixion that does complete the story of Zeus' power being undone by a Son of Metis.

The Greek pantheon was largely adopted from Phoenician pantheon. Zeus corresponds to Ba'al Hadad. Mt Olympia corresponds to Mt Sapan/jabal Aqra. In fact the Greek alphabet is adopted from the Phoenician alphabet. Even the idea of democratic city states was first in Phoenician cities.
Learn history my friend before you become a misinformer. Phoenicians were created by Greek Phoenix and ruled as Persia, Egypt and many other major cities all over the Mediterrenean sea by Greek Kings till Rome. Rome also created by a Troan (Greek). Back to Medad = two words of water + lover = Libra and Eldad aka El (Ram) + dad/lover = Aries. Moses is a pesonifcation of the man with the water pot (Aquarius constellation). Moses like, Ganymede, was so beautiful that Zeus fell head over heels in love with him and transformed himself into an Eagle (Aquila constell) and carried him (Aquarius) to the top of Mount Olympus (Exodus 19.4). Moses/Ganymede was the boy/toy of Zeus and with his "water pot" was the "cup bearer" to the gods. Let's hope Moses/Ganyemede has plenty of vaseline to lubricate his rear "doorway to heaven."

Nietzsche ... "God is Dead" quote referencing consequences of the Enlightenment. Science is a form of religion resulting from the Age of Enlightenment transitioning cultural emphasis on rationality and science as a means of understanding the human condition. When reflecting on what "defines" a religion people thing of idols, ritual , place of worship, procedures of worship, method of salvation, etc. Putting science into that framework idols are easy enough to figure out (microscopes, etc. ), ritual/procedures of worship= scientific method, place of worship = labs and research organizations, method of salvation= our own intellect/repeatable results indicating evidence of results.,,, as you noted it will solve our problems. Arguably, science has caused as many problems as more "accepted" forms of religion. With that said, you are absolutely correct about accepting the anglo gods (i.e. modern science) yet science and a large number of our cultural components are middle eastern (northern Iraq/Syria) in origin. Hebrew text also was derived from there.
