I always really like getting a Mike Haduck notification. Mike, I really appreciate your sharing of your knowledge with us. If you were in my area (Baltimore) I would hire you... but you are not. So I use your knowledge and do the repairs myself... I do not know how to thank you, but with words... May the Lord bless you and your hands in all that you do... and may He keep a hedge of protection around about you... Your labor has not been in vain... Thank you for sharing!
Made my day to see a new video from you. You have helped me feel confident in re-surfacing a waljway, repairing minor issues on an old concrete pool deck and more. Originally fm Pgh, its like going home watching yr vids, although u are fm otherside of state. Thanks for helping us all out/educating. Saved me lots of $$
Been watching for a few years , I'm glad to see someone who actually can narrate on the go! I am not naturally a good speaker 😆 Anyway, have a good Monday ! Glad to spend some time here with ya!
I'm repairing stone steps right now, Mike, and using Portland 1 part to 2 parts mason sand, as I've seen you do in your other videos. Not making a big deal out of anything - just knock out what's loose, wet everything good, and fill things in. Then brush or sponge. From watching your videos I've learned how to build up the holes using junk stones, old bricks, whatever's available, and fill in around with portland, using the best stone on the outside where people will see it. I've also learned to do the joints at the same time. I'm not sure if I'll ever be confident enough to try a new brick or block wall, because that involves a lot more precision to get everything straight and level and square, but repair work to existing things I now regard as no big deal...Thanks Mike!
Mike....... Glad I found your website. I need to stucco my back yard wall again, didn't work out on my first attempt. I hope i learned enough to do it right this time......LoL. Enjoy your humor so much, I ordered one of you T-shirts..... ***** John *****
You have a great sense of humor Mike! Do you have a preference of what you enjoy more, demo or finishing? The demo looks so satisfying to me. Great work as always.
I replace my Mom’s similar steps every 8 to 10 years. Depending on salt use in Winter. Really enjoyed your tutorial. I’ve used a Tube Construction Adhesive instead of Portland. I just replace All the blocks.
Mike Mike Mike.... Nice quick job Brother.... as for a women with a boat.... 1-GOT-NOO-LUCK .... You are a sailor.... ALWAYS A CAUGHT IN THE STORM... Not the calm seas BROTHER.... GOD BLESS Ernie
Mike, you should move to The Villages and meet a rich widow. There is such a skilled trade shortage in Fl you could work out of your golf cart and make a bundle if you want. Big improvement on the steps.
i have to redo my front steps with bluestone i put it on because the precast steps sunk and were too low but the water dripping off roof in winter cracked them and mortar fell apart so i am going to put on new stone with the portland sand mix that you use instead of mortar
Less than a month ago in June I bought Portland cement at Lowes for $14.87 a bag, and sand for $4.88 a bag. I looked today and now Portland is $16.28 a bag and sand is $5.28 a bag. That is a pretty big increase in price. I'm all done with my patio repair but when it gets cooler I will line the edge with brick.
“Send a picture of the boat” and not the girl? Don’t matter what the girl looks like if it’s a nice boat in the right spot right! Great video. Thanks for taking the time to share.
Hi Mike, I’m having an issue with my chimney and I stumped onto your channel today. I watched many of your episodes and truly enjoyed them. I wonder if you would provide some advice on my problem. Basically the brick chimney of my fireplace fell away from my one story house. It’s been like this when I bought the house 11 years ago. The chimney is about 20 feet tall and about 5 feet above the gable of the house where the chimney fell away from. The chimney is about 5 feet wide and 3 feet deep at the base but becomes smaller about 10 feet above the ground. The base is still next to the house but it gradually distances itself from the house going upwards. The gap is 5.5” at the gable, the highest point of the house. Structurally, the chimney looks fine and I think its foundation settled unevenly that had caused the problem. Do I have a fix without rebuilding a new chimney? I’m doing the siding at the moment. I feel if there is an easier solution this would be the time to do it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance!
Hi B, masonry chimneys are faster becoming a thing of the past, If you are having structural problems I would get some advice from the locals, thanks Mike
Mike, is there any use for crumbled old cement like this? Could it be incorporated into new cement by mixing it in Portland? Any benefits? Or just toss it and make everything new? I mean, as a filler or aggregate?
So Mr. Mike thanks for sharing. I have a question? With this project whats a more solid/firm and better quality to do the stairs!? Cut in smaller pieces or the larger ones better for this scenario?
Hi Vintage, those kind of blocks have a short life no matter, the new schoolers use glue, it's not like the old days , planned obsolescence, thanks Mike

Hi Hvac, I would wait, one part might have dried faster, or wasn't wet enough, a light sprinkle ow water in the morning might help, it takes a few days to harden, thanks Mike

Hi, in our part it is 6$ a bag for portland and 2$ for sand. Kind regards, Barni from Romania.
Hi Das, I just paid 18 dollars at lowes, inflation is a lot more than they say, Mike
@@MikeHaduck Yup. With NJ sales tax it is $17.36.
@@BarniRepairs Ship some to us! :-) I guess by the time it arrives the cost to ship it will raise the price to $26/bag

Is it possible to do concrete and masonry repairs in the winter time? With the use of blankets, torches , etc etc.

With this project whats a more solid/firm and better quality to do the stairs!? Cut in smaller pieces or the larger ones better for this scenario?
Hi, I think it depends on the area you live and what your trying to accomplish, every situation is different, thanks Mike
Do you keep old bad for back fill on some other project? Why nothing between the joints?
Hi Floral, matching the existing, I keep only what I expect to use and any old cement I disregard it, Mike
