One of the best tutorials on setting up a repeater/extender. I set up an old wifi router in the living room to extend the signal from the main wifi router in the basement at the other end of the house. I wasn't able to connect from upstairs before and now I get full signal bars. Thanks.
So explain something please. How do I get the router in the other room. That isthe part I dont understand. Wont it still be connected to the first router ?
@@debbiegroves2649 So you have to set up the second router in repeater bridge mode through the router settings. It has to have the same ssid name and encryption key the main router has but you set up the second repeater router with a different ip address than the main router. You connect from your repeater router to your main router through the settings page. Your repeater router will be closer to your computer with a strong signal so your computer's wifi will connect to the repeater router rather than try to connect to the weak signal from the main router. The closer repeater router will act as a bridge to your main router.

@@fabiennehoogewoud1180 You may have to go into the wifi adapter settings in Windows and set a static ip address for your computer instead of letting Windows select an automatic ip address. For example if the main wifi router is ip address 192.168.1.1 and the bridge router is 192.168.1.2 you would go into the properties setting for your ipv4 adapter on your computer and set the adapter to 192.168.1.3, 255.255.255.0, gateway: 192.168.1.1 and dns to whatever your isp uses for their dns server address.
Can use use secondary router as repeater/extender even without enabling WDS in primary router. Only thing to remeber is to avoid ip conflict. Just change secondary router's ip address. No need of WDS enabling in primary. 1) Reset secondary router 2) Change ip address of secondary router. 3) Enable WDS bridging in secondary router and connect to primary router either by scanning or by survey option. Provide primary router's password. Select Channel as Auto or provide same channel for secondary as you seen in scan/survey list of primary connection. Change SSID of secondary according to your wish (say "wifi extender") if needed. 4) Go to DHCP and disable 5) Reboot. 6) You will be able to see wifi extender SSID. 7) Connect it and enjoy the same internet as in primary router
