Dude, you are OFF THE HOOK! So inspirational to see you "enjoy the journey" without power tools.
Thanks!!!
you are a true master of all things wood. I wish I had my garage built so I could start picking up tools again from auctions. I used to go to auctions all the time before I was married with kids and I would buy every single wood working tool they had. over the years people borrowing them and never bring them back had dwindled my inventory. but some day I will be back into it and look forward to seeing more of your videos.
That's a bummer but now you have the passion to rebuild your collection and the knowledge to NOT lend the out!!!!
Great job! One of the best truly non machanized carving bench tutorials I have watched. ( @ 30. !!!!) I am not a professional but have been married to one for 42 years. Now I want to carve( on the sly😉) without all the loud noises. I really love the drill press. I am so glad I watched to the end as your initial carving project was a real treat. Also loved your pegging technique with the coat hanger wire as well. It is great how you repurposed those classic wooden vises. Thanks for a excellent job on the bench as well as your editing on the video. Keep up the good work. 👍Marjorie
Thank you so much!
you are truely an artist. watching your videos make me realize how we have understimated our ability to be independent from modernization.using all those tools and no electricity.... boy you are hell of a man.
Thanks. More to come.
Yes he is. I loved all your comments.
Excellent work. Excellent materials. Very satisfactory video. Very nice old era tools.
I am simply jealous!!
I couldn't help the thought..., how lucky and pleased must be your grandson, when he inherits such a bench, more valuable because it was made by his grandfather!! I wish him to be able to appreciate it.
+Κωνσταντάς Χατζηκωσταράτσος Thank you so much. This was a difficult but rewarding project.
You have more energy than an ADD child , no insult intended. That was a lot of work.
And a lot of Ibuprofen afterward!
You made me proud of myself twice in this video. I build guitars and I'm Brazilian and that wood almost beat you lol thank you for such an amazing time with you here, very entertaining, and sorry for any English mistake.
Obrigado!
I have a mate who's an English oak craftsman, he shares the same values as you, ill tell him about this.Fantastic job with the bench, beautiful colours. All recycled gear too. Thanks from the UK
+Andy Homes Well thank you very much.
Hey Chris, you are truly an artist. i instantly subscribed to your channel when i saw you build your lathe.
plus your comical,and
i appreciate that.
and you have the coolest name in history. i just wanted to give you thanks and say for every troll there are 100 people who love what you do.
THANK YOU.
+Chris Sargeant And thank you for all of your support!
18 minutes of total enjoyment and amazement Chris, brilliant my friend.
Take care
Mike
Thanks Mike. Glad you enjoyed it.
wow super old school
you are one of the few that will survive an electrical apocalypse
very well done indeed
Thanks. I’ll definitely be a top pick in the Apocalypse Draft.
Nice work Chris, didn't really know what a carving bench was but the work you showed at the end really highlighted how useful it can be.
Kin Peng Mok I thought it would be important to show a project so people understood why there are so many holes. Thanks
Chris
That shirt said it all!
Only an Irishman would be crazy enough to mill all that stock by hand!
Good video!
You speak the truth!! 👍🏻
Chris, you are an inspiration. You create beautiful furniture and tools truly with your bare hands. I am not a craftsman, but seeing what you can do with simple tools, an understanding of wood, and seemingly endless physical energy encourages anyone who watches you work to raise their own game. Thank you for the inspiration!
+Mac Kerr Comments like this keep me going! Thanks so much!
Man that is pretty incredible. It's also beautiful. I wish I could find old tools like you have, the flea markets and auctions have dwindled away in my area, I would possibly have to travel a few hundred miles to get to one, or maybe hit lucky on a garage sale. Thanks for sharing your projects with us.
I am very blessed. Take care and thanks!
Fantastic! I think it's amazing what "YOU" can do with old wood found in a barn!
Thank you!
Mike Brey would be proud of you to do all this w/o machines!
Thanks!
I love the way you use only hand tools. Your finished work is superb! Well done!
+Leblond987 Thank you.
I just love the humor! Yet it's very complete in the content. I wish I heard about you before!
Thanks and welcome!
I too have dream of putting together several pieces I've collected. But for now I enjoyed your hard work and excellent craftsmanship so thank you for sharing.
👍🏻
This bench is soooooo beautiful!!!!!! Cheers from Berlin/Germany.
Danke!
No pain!! No gain Chris!!! Awesome skills bro!!!👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽🔥🔥🔥
You got that right!
Your talents know no bounds. I just wish a neighbour would learn to use their woodworking knowledge to do it your way. I'm guessing that apart from the knocking and sawing noise that is inevitable, that it is relatively peaceful - No high frequency whine of electrically powered tools, and in the long run, a greater appreciation of the wood!
Correct. The sounds I create are rhythmic, not screaching!!
by far the best wood working channel on RUclips. you're awesome!!!
+David Madsen Well thank you very much!!
Totally love that you use no power tools. Living on an island with limited tools this gives me hope that I can still do nice work if I want to. Also we have power outages so I can keep working as long as I have sunlight.
+Kinu Grove What island?
Thanks for sharing the creativity. Personally I wouldn't want to go completely without power tools, kudos to you for doing it though. Loved the end result
+Lars de Waardt Thanks for ALL the compliments!
Absolutely GENIUS!! Once again, Chris, BRAVO! You're an inspiration to ALL woodworkers, beginner to experienced. Please continue to do projects like this.
Will do!
Like a boss!
I'm gonna "steal" this design and make one for myself. I'm using power tools, though, since carpentry is my trade, after all. It's still amazing to see how you do everything by hand, I'm impressed. It takes a certain kind of character to have principles when cheap and convenient tools are everywhere.
Chris, I salute you!
+ZeroTheHero Thanks my friend!
I bow to your awesomeness sir. Keep up the amazing work.
Thanks! More to come.
I'm a wood carver and i approve of this video and that gorgeous carving bench!!!
Well thank you very much. It's so beautiful I just like to look at it but don't worry, it's getting lots of use.
Holy crap. This is the first of your videos I'm watching-and it's 5 years old! You should have many more subs!
Thanks so much!
Very cool. I haven't been this inspired since Roy Underhills Woodwrights Shop show on PBS 25 plus years ago. No youtube in those days , no audiance , no payday. Keep up the good work. I'm going out to the barn and find the wood i put up to build my popular mechanics workbench 25 years ago. Well maybe tomorrow , it's 10 below right now. It warmed up some. cheers
Thanks so much. Good luck with your project...so rewarding doing things by hand.
I realized 15 seconds into this video that you were so out of my league but I couldn't stop watching. You're a BEAST!!!
Ha! Thanks.
Beautiful! We try to make things that look "perfect" and get so caught up in it, we forget what is beautiful.
Agree completely.
I use purple heart wood for making duck calls I give to wounded vets. It truly is a beautiful wood. Good job.
Thanks. The wood is tough to work with but it’s a good result.
Your originality, positivity and skill is so inspiring ! Thank you
+ΧαμενηΑγαπη You are most welcome.
I think what you mean is that is amazing what YOU can do with wood with no power tools. That is not the case for most everyone else I would imagine. When you started carving out a guitar I was about to throw in the towel as a woodworker but then I realize that you didn't, so I still feel there is hope.
Ha. Thanks and good luck!
Having watched dozens of your films, I had to make a ceiling cubbyhole and I'm sure I did so well also thanks to all I had seen - there's a lot to learn from your videos.
***** Thanks and good luck
I don't even remember how many times I have watch this. This is just brilliant, I love it! Nice work Chris!
+MrTONPPA69 Well thank you very much. More coming.
Wow Love that collection of Axes, wish I had those, different axes for different jobs
I love them!
Amazing.... Thank you for sharing that. It is beautiful and your work techniques are especially amazing. Bravo.
I love the cool, old man-powered machines.
They work quite well actually.
WOW Chris!! You really amazing using hand tools to build a carving bench. I really enjoy it a lot.
Muhammad Nur Thank you. More to come.
Chris
I enjoyed watching this. I'm learning to appreciate all the different species of wood And boy the dowels .Great build
+Franks DIY Thanks. Dang that Purple Heart is a pain to drill
I can only imagine. Again loved it
You are an amazing ,and silly craftsman !!!!! I wish my brain could work like that!!!!!
+Jef Bro That's the best description of me ever!
As the usual, your technique and abilities made me drop my chin on the floor. Amazing build Chris, you're awesome!
+hugoalju That's not a compliment I get very much so thank you.
I love the creeky sounds of the wood...it shows how old it really is..that purple heart is aesome man great score on that and 100$ for all that walnut !?! SCOOORE!!! $$$$
its speaking to u chris ..Its saying thank u chris for getting me outta that poop filled pile!;) w/the "dont ask questions chair"haha!!
As always awsome work bro! Well worth the wait!
WELCOME BACK BRO!
Well time to watch the next vid :)
Beautiful work, done the old school way and it looks so much better for it. Thanks for your video - your humorous touches were great too!
+Bruce McNally Thank you very much.
Very nicely done sir. Thank you for sharing. I know this is an older video, but still a fun build and a great way to wake up and providing inspiration for others to go build something useful with old wood. Thanks again my friend and I hope you have a blessed weekend.
Dale
Thanks so much!
I'm only 3 minutes in, man you're an absolute beast. Such hard work. Respect. Can't wait to see the rest of the project unfold.
Thanks!
You're the man.
I love this kind of work.
Great find great job

tnx to your share techniques im watch all your video im pilipino im beginner wood working tnx again
+angelo olarte Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.
Wow some one gifted you that much purple heart. Darn. I need some of your friends. Know the stuff is great for something like that bench, but I would have to savor that stuff over a 100 projects.
I was very lucky no doubt!
Awesome bench and I love that post drill. I also think $100 for that walnut was a serious score!
+Jordan Berghaus It all came together nicely.
Incredibly talented. Bravo.
Thanks.
Man, that was awesome. You need to make a video featuring your tools.
Will do!
Love the huge mitre saw!
No doubt!
That's just perfect. Veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery nice job Chris.
Thank you very much.
F a n t a s t i c, and l loved your personal tools, the wood . An indefinite s a t i s f a c t i o n. Tfs.
Great job Chris, awesome work and planning. Thanks for sharing with us. Fred.
You bet!
Chris great as usual. I have worked with purple heart before, with both hand and power tools, lot of respect to you, it is tough stuff to work with. Bench is great. Also of course gotta love the ultimate air guitar.
Lastly as a former Purdue guy, I still have to cringe a bit with seeing the Notre Dame shirts all of the time. HA
I get that a lot 😄😄 about my Irish. I will say you do have a great mascot.
brother you are awesome! thank you for sharing your videos I learn a lot from you, keep them coming, and thank you again.
+Eli Colon You are most welcome. More to come.
You know I don’t even have words for how talented you are, what a great job well done 👍 brother 🥰
Thanks so much!
You are masterful. From a 62 year old guy whom has abused his body doing similar slugging scraping chopping and plane work, enjoy it as much as you can cause your body will say no more one day. It’s a pleasure to watch you work.
Thanks! I enjoy ice and ibuprofen so I know I can’t do this forever!
You are now officially one of my heroes. Amazing job.
+Mikhail Galatinov I am honored. Thank you
Classwork Chris, I watch every time with admiration, at us call such Masters the cabinetmaker, but in my opinion you surpass all
Алим Хапов You are too kind! Thank you.Chris
With great pleasure I watch your work, and I study something at you, Thanks!
Алим Хапов Спасибо, мой друг. Я буду продолжать делать большие видео.
Крис
As impressive you are as a wood craftsman, you truly are an artist as an editor. Fun watching the storytelling techniques develop along with the progression of videos
+rgelsh1 Thanks so much.
WOW ! Very impressive! Simply amazing.
Thanks
Wow!!!!!!! Wonderful work!!!!!!!! Congratulations Sir!
Thanks - I use it all the time!
Absolutely Bloody Brilliant! I'm subscribing right now! Haven't even seen your other videos yet. Don't need to !!!!!!
+DCPorter71 Thanks. You will not be disappointed!
Very well done, I was a little confused at the beginning then I realized what the holes were for. The idea of making the guitar was amazing to demonstrate how it can be used. Very nice video overall and can't wait for the next one XD
Thanks. More to come but not as fast as you you may like 😞.
I appreciate the journey and your video skills and time you spent on making this video. Only those of us who've shot and edited videos can truly understand the time and skill required to do a video like this. I'm sure it took at least as much time as the project itself.
Thanks. Do you make videos? Yes, the video aspect takes a lot of time. My video - How to build a Chair - took 12 months but the result was terrific.
I used to, when RUclips was in its infancy. However, I sort of burned out from it. However, I learned that editing is a great skill so when editing awards are given by the Oscar committee, I now pay attention. When I was an active youtuber, I put out a video every couple of days. I had hundreds of videos. I think putting one out every so often is a better way to do it rather than face the chance that you burn out from all the time it takes to produce one. People that don't produce videos cannot possibly fathom the skill and time it takes to make one. So, I understand why many become disullisioned from the process and lack of recognition.
I agree on not putting out too many. It's an all consuming task. Take care.
Wow what an inspiration. Your what I wanna be.best video ever.
Thanks!
You sir, are a genius, what a fantastic job, liked, subscribed, and suitably stunned. Thanks for sharing.
+George Brown Thank you. Welcome. More good stuff coming.

+Craig Colavito Thanks so much. I got to meet Roy at a show! It was great.
Anytime! I'd love to get into Traditional Woodworking myself, I think If i ever do commit myself to it, that i'd take a course from Roy at his school. It's a fascinating field. Awesome that it's being kept alive and presented so well!
You're the man! Thanks for sharing.

again: what a beautiful piece of work! I would have sanded the top flat a bit more though... :)
it might bringt out the beauty of the wood even more
Thanks.
ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL
Thanks!
I watched in pure amazement. You are an incredible woodworker!!! I have never seen anything like that. Did you learn from Dad, uncles, grandfather? How did you learn how to make and use all of your tools? Ironically I'm glad you have the technology to share your God given talents with us. God Bless you. I'm in Branson Mo. are you anywhere close to southwest Missouri?
I picked it up as a hobby about 10 years ago. I don’t live near Branson but I heard it’s a great place to visit.
Ive watched this video several times. Definitely on my build list. I bought the tap and dyes to make the wood screws. Id get much use out of a table like this.
Thank you so much for the video. Amazing job Chris.
You are most welcome! Good luck!
That was superb.
+LogrusUK Thanks. Drilling into Purple Heart nearly killed me. B
I would find myself irresistibly compelled to organize that whole pile of random wood in the loft.
😄👍🏻
What A Beautiful Bench. Thank you for sharing. C-Ya!,,,,Peace!
+GnatMan Allin Thanks
You've done it again, sir. Inspiring and beautiful work. Thanks for sharing your skill and knowledge. From a fellow die hard bowhunting in Ohio. -Jeff
Thanks for the compliment.
I'm subscribing for the bears hat... and watching for the great work
+Blake _ Da Bears!!!
Wow! Very cool! Watching this one video was all it took to get me to subscribe. That turned out great and such a score on that purple heart. Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Much respect for doing it with no power tools. Well done!
+AandB1998 Welcome and thank you very much!
Holy cow you do a lot of work to get that thing together! Wish I had the knowhow or space to do something like that!
No doubt I am blessed !
Cheers Chris ... even though I don't have the wood skills yet, I'm "peeved" when a simple carving bench construction requires an entire workshop of professional power tools. Most people looking to make a carving bench or mini-workbench are scaling up from a desk or table. This video is way more relevant than some poser with $150k of kit showing off his fancy sponsors. Thank you. $0.02
You are most welcome.
