  • Опубликовано: 2 ноя 2018
  • I rode from Tokyo to Kyoto with two friends.
    Start: 17th Sep 2018
    End: 1st Oct 2018.
    Our Route: goo.gl/xkUJ8K (follow this at your own risk! We didn't really plan it.. there is probably a far better route with less crazy tunnels).
    Tunes: goo.gl/xhKUZz

    There's so much food everywhere in japan that you would never have to prepare your food if you didn't want to. And Japanese sandwiches/ sandos are the best thing on earth. Loved the video.

      dogbutts5000 haha! I agree. Hardly ever talk in my videos for this exact reason. Maybe one day if I have something important to say. This was shot on a go pro 6 attached to my handle bars. The image stabilization is amazing. Japanese roads are also very smooth 😉

      @@JohnBr0 I agree on the blabbing in general but some babbling is ok, actually great for the video if you do it right. Also you guys seemed to have some really fun moments and a great vibe in general. Would have been nice to include some of those moments providing some variation to the music at the same time. The music has to be amazing not to get tiring at some point. Loved it anyway 👍

      We stealth camped twice, very discreetly, the rest of the time we were in campsites. One morning a bee keeper came and said 'ohio gozimasssss' with a big smile. Another time we accidentally camped in the wrong place at a campsite that led to an absolutely hilarious conversation between us and the grounds keeper in the morning in Dutch / English / Japanese. Again - it was all smiles and crossed fingers (the Japanese don't seem to shake their heads for no - they cross their fingers into an X.). Wild camping was fine - as long as you were out of the way and polite. A few bugs, but nothing too crazy. I'm sure there are thieves in Japan, but not many. Most bikes in Tokyo were locked with very thin locks, or not at all. We left our bikes locked outside or hotel and they were fine. We didn't ask for permission, as there was no one to ask - but i'm 99.9% sure if we had asked someone they would have helped us find somewhere to stay. The Japanese seemed extremely friendly and nice to 3 random blokes on bikes. We were met with smiles and shouts of 'heeeellloooooo' all through our journey :).

One consideration is bike shops, I'll be leaving the roady at home. I saw blue lug and heard others rate it, did you pick up a bike there, or just some bags/accessories?

    Hello, I'm looking into bike touring Japan for awhile and am unsure whether I should bring my camp cooking equipment or not. I see you guys were cooking your own food. I'm wondering if you think the cost savings were worth the weight. Great vid!

    • @JohnBr0
      @JohnBr0  3 месяца назад +1

      I still maintain that the best ramen I’ve ever eaten was the one I cooked myself on a beach in Japan using my little stove and ti pot after we bought all the ingredients at a supermarket! It was definitely nice to be able to fall back on. But the amount of sushi and onigiri you can eat means we didn’t really need it. Not too sure on the cost savings - Japan is very cheap now if you have USD. ❤️ have an amazing trip!!

    • @JohnBr0
      @JohnBr0  4 года назад +2

      Hi 👋🏻! Your English is good 🙂👍🏻 We turned up in Japan with a general plan of ‘let’s ride from Tokyo to Kyoto - and let’s go through the mountains, not along the coast’. Then everyday - we picked a 50 mile route and did it. It was great fun not really knowing where we were going and bumping into things along the way. That said we did miss some epic things like highest the rideable pass in japan ‘Norikura Pass’. We missed this by a few miles as we hadn’t planned! 😕😊. The festival was called ‘Teamlab borderless’ and was unbelievable beautiful! Go see it if you ever go. Ride safe!
      Croatian? 😊
      Bok 👋🏻! Vaš je engleski dobar 🙂👍🏻 Pojavili smo se u Japanu s općim planom ‘vozimo se od Tokija do Kyota - i idemo kroz planine, a ne uz obalu’. Zatim svakodnevno - odabrali smo rutu od 50 kilometara i to uspjeli. Bilo je izvrsno zabavno ne znati zapravo kamo idemo i naletjeti na stvari putem. To je reklo da smo propustili neke epske stvari kao što je najviša vozna karta u Japanu, "Norikura Pass". Propustili smo ovo za nekoliko kilometara kao što nismo planirali! 😕😊. Festival se zvao ‘Teamlab bez granica’ i bio je nevjerojatno lijep! Idi pogledaj ako ikad odeš. Vozite sigurno!

    Dude, I did the same 2016! I know exactly what you did! ^^ And more. My route was pretty similar at first: Tokyo, Chichibu, Chino, Matsumoto, Takayama (you missed that beautiful town!, same climb to Hirayu-onsen though), Shirakawa-go, Kanazawa, Mikuni, coastline to Biwa-ko (but I chose Hikone, the eastern side of the lake), Kyoto. After that I moved on to Uji, Nara, Osaka, Kobe, Himeji, back to Kobe, Back to Osaka, Kii peninsula at the coastline to Ise, Nagoya, Shizuoka, Fuji, Hakone, Kamakura, back to Tokyo. But, and thats the truth, I carried my stuff all the way in a travelbag I modified into a backpack on my back. I used a great carbon road bike Hikaru Utadas father bought me after he crashed my previous bike. ^^ Thats also not a joke! It took me 90 days and I experienced alot of great stuff on the way, too, like festivals, great people and breathtaking landscape and culture! I enjoyed the ride like you did!Great seeing people doing the same stupid things like me. ^^

      How do you find these routes? I lived in Japan for 10 years in the 1990s but have been back in the US for 20 years. I will retire at the end of this year and move back to Japan and I plan on doing a lot of cycling, but I have to be honest. I really suck at directions and if I tried a long trip like this, I'd probably end up in Burkina Faso or something, unless I had it mapped out for me on a GPS.

    how much did the airlines charge you to take your bike roundtrip to Japan??? was the case oversized[they typically are]which is the main reason i usually pay the 15euro fee[give or take]to rent a bike when i bike in Europe[which sucks because i have a killer Cannondale SuperV 1000 full suspension and the only thing they have to rent is usually a decent at best hybrid bike,but paying $300 each way!!![Lufthansa,KLM,is way too high[almost the cost of my ticket with hotel!!!!!
