Helicoil Thread Repair on a KTM 250

- We rebuilt the clutch master and slave the day before heading out to Moab, UT for some riding. While tightening the last bolt, the threads gave way. Just a touch too much juice. Being the day before we left, we put it back together with RTV on the gasket hoping it would make it through the trip. It held up until the last day when the clutch would only partially disengage putting the bike in gear. That was an adventure on the slick rock... It was all good though. A great trip and then fun installing a helicoil.

never use a tap on a drill.
5 years later this problem just come to my ktm drain filter. and thank you for sharing this!
Nice work guys, and Micheal it's good to see you learning from your Dad on how to fix things, your Dad is a pretty smart cookie so take all the knowledge you can from him, and Micheal you are getting tall. you have come along way since your debut 8 years ago. Pretty soon your going to pass your Dad and Brother in the height department
Very generous comments, thank you. He's already over the top which is probably a combination of him growing and me shrinking... :p
About dropped my phone in the toilet I was so excited to see a video from you.....
Never used these before, I always used "Time -Certs" I might use these in a pinch. Good video.
I was so nervous for you guys.. a cheap Chinese tap in a drill tapping a hole in a beautiful ktm... thank god it didn't break!
The best solution is a full insert but we wanted to try out the cheap Chinese option. I wouldn't put one in a cylinder head but it was fine here.
There's a pair to beat a full house!
Nice father son project...
Would have liked to have seen the initial reaction to the stripped bolt though :)
Pretty predictable reaction. A gasp, then "Oh crap!" lol
good work teaching the young fella!
He's a good kid. Thanks.
Ready for a new video
hello ,my bike's
crankcase slot became worn.So oil is dripping.I want to use this stuff named helicoil. Is it good at high temperature
s .Can it be broken or like that ?
I thought taping was something you do by hand not with a drill
Drilling has always worked for me. Less wobbly and more precise especially in soft aluminum. You just have to be careful to not cut too much without going in reverse.
Good to see new content here, are there more truck videos coming?
There's always hope for the future! Headlight aiming and a trick with a fuel filter change coming.
Glad to see you are passing on your mechanical skills to your kids. Most kids now a days can’t even change the oil on a car! Hope to see more videos. How are you liking the new truck? I still have my 2011 F250 King Ranch would love a new truck but would not love the payment!
Thanks. Michael is a good kid. Always willing to jump in with his old man. The 2017 has been awesome. I had to transfer case failure to all else is great.
wow, i have the EXACT same problem with my 250 sx 2001 😂😂😂😂
Easy fix.
With this kit do you know if it will repair a oil drain plug on a 1986 kx 125 ?
Not sure. You just have to find out what thread you need and make sure you have the drill, tap and helicoil to fix it.
What’s new? How’s the truck?
2 years old but looks and runs like new. Great truck.
What size tap is needed for a M6 helicoil?
Google "tap size m6 helicoil". There you have it.
What happened to EpicCowlick? You disappeared.

*Make more videos of ur truck please.*
