After experience with this head unit for about 3 months I thought i would leave a review. This is a very nice unit, the grey color is not perfect but matches the other trim closely. The screen is very good, with adjustable brightness, and even the volume and HVAC buttons feel near OEM quality. The unit functions very well once set up; my primary purpose is to jump directly into CarPlay whenever I drive. The integration with the vehicle is very well done, including door ajar notifications and the backup camera.
Installation is very easy, truly plug and play. The video install is good but a wiring diagram would be nice with the unit. When i installed my unit i had a bad ground loop interference which caused a whine and poor audio quality. After a lot of testing i replaced the axillary interface on the truck and it solved the problem. I still have audio interference when the steering wheel controls are installed, so i am dealing without the SWC until a solution is found.
Alex (Workshop 12) was great to deal with and was involved and active to help solve the issues I had. If you are interested in this unit i would recommend purchasing from him.
What exactly did you replace on the AUX. I have the same issue. The second I plug in the dummy aux to complete the circuit I get the low hum and whine. Did you just replace the AUX plug in the center console?
@@zachbluhm1156 yes exactly, its the combination USB/3.5mm interface that is installed inside the center console. I ordered the GM replacement through Amazon.

I carry a truck camper. If I run the supplied gps out further to avoid the camper interference or does the stock gps / Sirius antennae supersede the signal .

Does the voice assistant button on the wheel still work? That gets frequent use from me. Also, why can't this use the stock microphone above the driver?
Voice assistant will work but its a bit complicated. If you are using it for vehicle functions i.e. onstar it will work normal. However, if you are using CarPlay with the new headunit, this means that your phone's bluetooth pairing is with the headunit not the vehicle. Therefore, using the voice assistant to make a phone call will not work as the truck cannot "send a command" to the headunit. HOWEVER, if you are using CarPlay (or similar) you will have Siri on the headunit and can use that for voice commands to make phone calls, play music, change tracks, etc.
The situation is the same with the microphone, when you are bluetoothed to the headunit, it needs its own microphone. If you simply used the console app and connected your phone to the truck then the stock microphone will work as normal. Having said all this, the added mic isnt a big deal.
Please, please make one of these for the 19-22 silverado/sierra.

The only problem I have with this setup is that it doesn't have the outputs for an aftermarket sound system. So if you don't have a stock stereo system you would have to run LC2 or LC6 to run amps and separate channels.
Thats correct, there are RCA outputs but from my testing they dont produce an output signal. Even if they did, using a LC2 or LC6 would be the only way to keep vehicle chimes etc due to the serial bus setup of the truck.
2016 silverado with 2.0 hmi module. No apple car play currently, will i need to update hmi module for car play or simply install this unit for car play? Thanks
No! You will not need to update it.
If I dont have heated seats do you have blank panels instead of the heated seat controls ?

I shouldn't answer this question as you did not buy this kit from us. However, I'm assuming the place you bought it from does not have exceptional customer service like we do 😆
However, as I mentioned in the video 18:11 you need to disable the dynamic guidelines under the settings > System > Dynamic Guidelines

Do these include a warranty? I have seen a lot of these have issues 3-6 months down the road and there putting the factory stereos back in or waiting weeks for replacement. What is setting you apart from the others?
linkswell and the other brand is the one that have problems. From what i seen and heard this one is the best one out
Because there seems to be a ton out there it’s hard to settle on one model type and take the jump. If there is a Warrenty that goes with this then I would jump on it. I see a lot of these have line issues or dead Pixels after 1-3 months.

On another note you are buying from an online seller. I am a certified 12 volt shop. You buy online. I locally install and charge for my labor. Unit fails I have no labor warranty since it is not my product. The manufacturer may offer a warranty but since I am only the installer I offer no warranty on product failure or troubleshooting. Keep that in mind when purchasing online.
I have a 2020 GMC 3500HD Denalli Ultimate Dually, and frequently use the 3rd Brake Light back up camera when I hook up to my Gooseneck trailer. Will that camera still work if I install this system?
Yes your camera will still work however we do not have a kit for the 2020 GMC

This unit does not come with SUB OUT. However, you can always connect a subwoofer by using
a RCA LOC.

Regarding the LTE 4G tablet sim card, is that in addition to have a data plan for wifi through onstar?
Yes, you would need to purchase an LTE 4G tablet data plan. However they are fairly cheap as you do not need as many Gb of internet in your car tablet as you would need on your phone.

you can dim the brightness however you can not change the color of the backlights.

What's the operating temperature range of this? Can it handle being in a truck that sits out in 115 degree weather in the summers? That's 150+ inside the car on some days.
Yes it can! Operating temp is between -30 to 80 degree Celsius. So about -22 to 176 degree F

Yes it does, you would have to manually activate it when you want to use it.

Hows the audio quality ? Usually some android stereos cant deliver the audio quality as a stock stereo
Audio quality is crystal clear. Even comes with 16 band EQ settings.
I installed everything exactly as you have it besides the heated seats because I don’t have heated seats. Finished every connection but there’s no audio, nor is there any interface showing that I’m raising or lowering the volume.

Maybe you can help me. Not sure if something is wrong with the unit I received but the volume knob and buttons on screen changes the station and won’t turn up the volume lol it’s really annoying.

- Yes. Since our kit retains all your factory features and settings, the built in wifi will still work. We have customers doing exactly that already! You can connect the tablet to the wifi signal your vehicle provides to have on board internet.

- Well, to be honest the original built in gps sucks. The kit comes with a GPS antenna that you can simply keep behind the dash and it will work with our kit. However, most of the time our customers use maps right from the Wireless carplay or android auto app. but if you are travelling where there is no signal then the GPS antenna would come handy, or you can also download "offline maps" right from the Google Maps App :)

- The SIM card tray is there to provide customers another option for internet beside the OnStar service.

- Not necessary, some customers think it sounds better with our mic and some don’t use it at all!

Or is it more stable? I have nothing but AC control issues with my Phoniex. Looking for another option. Of maybe a software install that works!!!
Our kit has better hardware, we have had no complaints about the AC controls not working.
I believe these units are all manufactured by in the same factory and are just branded differently. The Operating system and UI are all exactly the same. The sound quality are not tha great. I returned the unit I bought.
I'm curious if you can run OBD2 apps on these, and have the screen display Android auto for half, and gauges/telemetry for the second half
Yes you can :) Simply connect the OBDII Scanner and download the app from the Google PlayStore, then you can split screen CarPlay and the OBDII app

Does This Stereo have connections For aftermarket soundsystem like speakers and subwoofer amps
Yes, it has RCA outputs, so if you are planning on adding a system (or have one already), i suggest connecting RCA extension cables while you have the dash open and then just hide the RCA's under the dash until its time to use them so you dont have to open the dash again.
No!! Grim is wrong! This does not have rca connection for aftermarket amps. The rca harness that comes with it is for extra cameras
I can’t get my main radio screen to show. Just showing the knobs. I also can’t get audio for you tube. It shows the music videos but no audio from the RUclips app.

All you have to do is plug in the steering wheel control harness to the corresponding plug. Nice and easy.

@@WorkshoptwelveConnect the console screen on the new Tesla style screen will not be centered on some of these units, most other similar brands the console screen will be shifted over to the right so you have to go into the settings and center it, just wanted to see if yours came centered already or we will have to go through the settings
@@mitchgee That's not the case. That would only happen if you selected the wrong unit for your vehicle. For example let's say you have the 7" OnStar system and you ordered the 8" version then you would need to adjust the screen as the wrong size was ordered. This is why it's important to order the correct size unit when purchasing our kit :)
